At Tel El Saba on 31/10/17 he employed his Regiment with such skill and dash and drove his attack with such vigour that he captured the enemy strong position on Tel El Saba, covering Beersheba from the last. On 9/11/17 as Advance Guard to the brigade he displayed great energy during the advance from Jemmameh Burier-Ejjy-Mejdel (where he captured 8 officers and 162 other ranks prisoners) Beit Duras and on 10/11/17 when his advance was held up by enemy in strength on high ground 2 ½ miles South East of Esdud, he displayed great boldness in the carrying out of his attack on the position. Throughout the pursuit his work was characterised by dash and vigour, his personal, untiring enthusiasm permeating the whole of his regiment. From Gallipoli onwards, without intermission, his work has been consistently good.

In the Es Salt area on 31/3/18 when his regiment was attached to the 179 th Inf. Brigade and operating on the left flank of the Es Salt force, he pushed his regiment (less 1 Squadron and 3 troops which were operating towards Ammah), round the right flank of the enemy line, having ridden to a point 3 miles South of Es Salt and then moved dismounted 3000 yards North East. He arrived in position in rear of and on the right flank of the enemy before daylight and attacked the extreme right post with two troops, capturing 3 machine guns and killing 1 officer and 13 other ranks. He then pushed North in rear of and against the enemy flank driving them in great confusion before him, thus frustrating the threatened attack on the Es Salt force.

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This NCO was in charge of listening at View Post at 2400 on the night of 13/14 th July 1918 when he gave the first intimation that the enemy was concentrating on the right front of View Post. Sgt Bell s timely warning enabled the most minute details to be attended to before the enemy attacked at He had been slightly wounded but stuck to his post. His conduct and devotion to duty under the circumstances was remarkable. Sgt Bell s conduct under fire has always been a fine example to the men under his command.

When a Regiment of enemy cavalry attacked the right of the 1 st ALH Brigade, South of Baiket El Sana, this officer in command of his squadron displayed marked skill and initiative and by his dashing movement repelled the enemy attack. Major Bennett further displayed great boldness and enterprise on 29/4/17 when carrying out a reconnaissance of the area in the vicinity of Wadi Sihan, he pushed forward and crossed the Gaza-Beersheba Road between Sihan and Atawineh and gained valuable information of the enemy position.

Bennetto took his troop with a rush across the open and captured three machine guns and killing or capturing the personnel. Lieutenant Bennetto continued his advance on a confused enemy, who retiring in large numbers and other casualties were enfiladed as the enemy retired. Lieutenant Bennetto s success was a fine example of what may be done by quick decision and dash.

He commanded a squadron during the last operations and on the evening of the 27 th September 1918 he led that squadron with great dash against the enemy capturing 200 prisoners the total for the regiment being 13 officers and 440 other ranks. This officer has on various occasions commanded a squadron on the field with marked success.

He handled a difficult signal with great skill and when under bombardment by the enemy artillery the were repeatedly cut between Regimental forward headquarters and the various posts. His courage in readjusting broken lines and skill in handling the whole system in the absence of the signalling officer and signalling sergeant were most commendable..

The Supply Officer, Corbie, has reported on the gallantry and devotion to duty of this NCO under very adverse conditions.
