I hope Santa was good to everyone. He sure was to me and my family. December was a good month. We had all of our sponsors renew for another year. I can t begin to thank these businesses enough for supporting Chapter M. We welcomed members from Chapter K, Chapter I and Chapter E to December gathering. It was good to have everyone come out and meet with us. Debbie Rhoades was the 50/50 winner of December. I m beginning to think that she and Angela might have some kind of winning mojo going for them. On December 13 th, Rocky and Kim, Ed and Karen, Bill and Debbie, Joe and Bobbi and I rode into Tulsa to checkout Chapter E s gathering. I have to say that I have a wonderful core team. We had a good time visiting with everyone and Harry holds a really great meeting. We had scheduled our chapter Christmas party for December 17 th but as luck, and Oklahoma weather, would have it we had to cancel because of the sleet storm that decided to pass though that evening. However, Chapter M will not be bested by weather, we just scheduled another day, December 31 st, and had our delayed Christmas party. We played Dirty Santa/Father Time. Between Debbie, Angela and Marilyn, my poor Frank didn t stand a chance. Have you heard, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, I ain t even going to say which gal was which. It was a wonderful way to end the year. So the day after our party is January 1 st.2017! Some of us get together, those with a little less sanity than the others, and go riding down to the Tenkiller Lake area. Gotta tell you..it was cold, but oh so much fun. We stopped and had lunch at Katfish Kitchen in Tahlequah. Great ride, good friends and a hot meal..can t think of a better way to start the first day of a new year. Don t just turn and burn.be safe. Well I hope everyone got their black-eyed pea's and hog jowls on the first of 2017! That is supposed to improve your chances of good luck for the New Year and if your luck is anything like mine, you need all the good luck available. I really don t think it works but I always try it, I don t guess that hurts any. Speaking of hurting, the Polar Bear run to Henrietta is coming up real soon, but with this crazy weather it might just turn out to be a nice ride! It's officially the first ride of the year and I believe we will have a full house at Cowboys Corner, but for those who can't or don t make it you can always spend the time checking out your bike and getting it ready to go. You know like polishing all that chrome, checking out tires, oil, the coolant, brakes and just a general checkup... it ll give those black-eyed peas a helping hand WOW!!! Its hard to believe how fast 2016 has went by and for most of us, we made it through okay. But let us not forget those that were called home, people that we rode with and loved, people that we knew as friends and in remembering them when we start making plans for trips and rides, please keep safety and awareness in your pocket. 4 Karen and I went to Michigan to see the grandkids a couple of weeks ago. I prefabbed a set of bunk beds for them, and Emerly helped me put them together. She held the screws and handed them to me when I needed them. She also put the screws in the predrilled holes I had made and knew when to use the little screws and when to use the big screws. I was totally amazed at how quickly she caught on to what was happening. Having a two year old help you build something is the best thing that could possibly happen. I remember when her Dad was two years old and I was building something, it was more important to get the job done so I could get on to something else. Now the job was more important than when it was done. I took the time to explain why we were doing what we were doing and helping her have a positive experience. We finally got the job done, and this was my pay for a job well done. The beds came out great, and I got Thank you, Poppie and a kiss. PRICELESS! Sometimes it s necessary to step back and realize what is really important. It s not the job, it s not the money. It s not the glory or the fame. It s the difference you can make in a person s life. I urge you all to use this time at the onset of the New Year, to examine your priorities. Is what you re spending your time doing really the best use of your God given talents? Spend time with a young person, and make sure that you give them your full attention. Those little brains can tell whether you re bullshitting them and just giving them lip service, or when you genuinely care about them. One of my mentors, a billionaire businessman, used to take one of his grandchildren to meetings where major dealings were taking place. When asked why he did that, he explained that if his Grandson wouldn t go to them, he wouldn t do business with them either. This also works with your wife! Actively work on that relationship. It will be the best investment in time and energy you can make. Karen and I will be Couple of the Year for one more year. How long has it been since you ve looked at the manual of your motorcycle? How long has it been since you ve checked the air pressure in your tires? How long has it been since you ve lubricated your clutch and brake handles? How long has it been since you ve checked your clutch and brake fluid levels? How long has it been since you ve changed your clutch and brake fluid? How long since you ve done any parking lot practice? How small a circle can you make with your motorcycle? How long does it take you to stop your motorcycle at 30 miles per hour? How long since you ve taken an organized course with your motorcycle? How long since you ve taken someone for their first ride on a motorcycle? How long since you ve talked to someone about how much fun riding can be? Riding a motorcycle is more than kicking the tires, and lighting the fires. Paying attention to all the other details are super important. Making sure that your motorcycle is in tip top shape and well taken care of is as important as having your headspace well tuned. The way you act in public with your motorcycle shapes how the public views ALL of us.
