Notes for Neil Mackie Sources: Jean Sullivan, Cathy Thomas and Angus Mackie The Sydney Post - Record (Published January 20, 1936)_Funeral of Late Neil Mackie Held - Dominion, Jan One of the largest funerals seen here for some time was that of the late Neil Mackie, held from his late residence on Neville street Saturday morning. Followed by a large cortege of relatives and other friends, the remains were taken to Immaculate Conception church, where solemn requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. C. W. McDonald, P.P., with Rev. A. Beaton as deacon, Rev. J. Gillis as sub-deacon, and Rev. A. McAdam as master of ceremonies. The remains were taken after mass and laid to rest in Ocean Avenue cemetery, Rev. Joseph Gillis, C.C., officiated at the graveside. The many spiritual offerings, floral offerings and many messages of condolence recieved by the bereaved family testified to the high esteem in which the late Mr. Mackie was held in by all who knew him. The pall bearers were Messrs. Dan J. McDonald, Hugh Reid, Sr., Hugh Reid, Jr., Malcolm McMullin, Malcolm A. Campbell and William Bennett. Mrs. Mackie had been ill one month. A native on Benacadie Pond, Mrs. Mackie lived in Dominion 64 years. She was a member of St. Eugene's Church and through the years was active in community and parochial affairs. She is survived by sons, Leonard Mackie, New Aberdeen; James Mackie, Niagara Falls; Dan Mackie, New Waterford; Elmore Mackie, Dorchester, Mass.; Cliff Mackie, Brighton, Mass.; daughters, (Irene) Mrs. Joseph Campbell, Dominion; Mrs. Leona Thomson, London; (Veronica) Mrs. Dennis MacNeil, Waltham, Mass.; sisters, Mrs. J.J.E. Boutilier, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of that place. Mr. Boutilier, who was seventy-six years of age, was a veteran miner having worked in the Lingan, Sterling, and other mines long-since closed down. A fine upright type of citizen, his friends are legion._he is survived by his widow, two sons and six daughters.
