Recap of October and looking to November October started off with a perfect Sunday at the annual CCW picnic in Nipomo, Food is cooked and we are digging in, Share plates by the members was again great

Gordon Rowland with the help of Paul Bujold and Art Everett did the grilling with a hot fire from Oak donated by Doug Brown No one went home hungry, Ralph, Valerie, Ron Bill, Marion and Laurel will attest

Let the games begin. The annual CCW version of BOCCE BALL was off and running, Bill Kandler started it off, Jane Rowland was this years RINGER she won two times, Laurel Vosberg has her ball airborne The competition was keen, the prizes include $ of Craft supply gift certificates. Also several pieces of wood from Aura Lumber

I m the target See how close this match was Everyone who attended took part in the games

Meeting news and announcements Be sure to mark your calendar in RED to remind you of a demonstration by Art Liestman of Alberta Canada on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26 th in Dennis Ivan s shop located at 70 Fresno St in Paso Robles, CA. Start time will be 9:00AM with a break for lunch about noon, members are reminded to bring a lunch or plan on visiting the many restaurants in Paso Robles. Also bring a chair. Members fee is $ We have had contact with Art and he indicates a different line of turning. We were all alerted to an opportunity to visit and possibly purchase tools and wood that was offered by Peggy Krause of 7155 Bella Vista in Atascadero, best to call at If you like to work with KOA, she has plenty. The challenge project for November is a Ring Holder, you can get a few ideas from pages 15 & 16 in the latest AAW Journal. According to the writer-turner, he claim this to be a good gift and selling item. There will be a Holiday Craft Market on Saturday, November 19 th to benefit the Hands of Nepal to be held at I Street in Santa Margarita. More info available at Heidi@millersolar.com or at There will be a $30.00 space fee and a request of 10% of your sales.

Challenge Project and Show & Tell The challenge project was either a Turned Tool Handle or a Salt box or Both Gerry Werner Started the proceedings by showing several tool handles, He has to offer a Turning chisel handle, a Carvers tool handle and not shown sanding discs handles, it doesn't look like Gerry is going to let his new lathe sit idle.

Larry Truesdale proudly showed several Salt Boxes turned from various woods, shapes and sizes George Paes presented a different change for him and that being a handle with a collet feature to allow for changing the actual tools with the one solo handle. Yet to be tested

Yes, I said several, there were more only not photographed

Paul Knupp relatively new to turning & CCW proudly showed a Segmented bowl that he made under the teaching of Bill Kandler, not bad for a Rookie. With this product, what will we expect down the road. Well Done!

Rick Hasseman has gone a few steps further to enhance his work. He is now using glass rods, melting them to a shape he prefers and adds them to the turnings. He is also using fine wire and coiling into Coil like shapes and combining with the glass. What s next?

Gordon Rowland has his eyes set on a MULTI USE handle. He is incorporating a two ended handle by boring two different diameter mounting holes. Gordon further turned this handle on a multi center axis for grip feel and to prevent the tool to roll away.

Ernie Miller brought back from his trip to Rotary Engine Lathe symposium show a high strength switchable magnet. More info will be forth coming on its use, We hope?

NO, It s not candy, these are some Glass designs created by Rick Hasseman, a close up of Rick s bead work Gerry Werner has offered for the asking Deer antlers and abalone shells that can be used in turning embellishments

We welcome Darrel Klassen as a new member and hope that the young man who visited for the first time, Charlie Rose, will join us soon. Any member of CCW and not a member of AAW is offered a chance for a TEST DRIVE to learn more about the workings of AAW. To enter go to tiny.cc/aawguest follow the leads and you will get full member resources for a full 60 days. George Paes has blank forms if needed. If you have any questions regarding the CCW, go to George Paes Pres gngpaes@sbcglobal.net Gordon Rowland rowlago@att.net Bill Kandler Treasurer bkandled@verisof.com Jaden Smith librarian jhsbonds@yahoo.com Don t forget, Demo, Dennis Ivans shop October 26, bring a chair and lunch and $25.00 LATE REQUEST! IF you have a projector that can be hooked up to ipad and have connectors for HDMI or VGA Please contact George Paes
