2 T h e B u r l i n g t o n R a d i o C o n t r o l F l y e r s N e w s l e t t e r AMA Charter 1752 Volume 23 No.3 JUNE 2006 Secretary s Report for April 11, 2006 membership meeting The meeting was started by President Al Prudhomme at 7:36 pm, April 11, Roughly 20 people were attending. The February meeting minutes and treasurer report were read and accepted. There were 75 BRCF members as of that evening. New Members New attendees and members included: Ben Newton, works at Sun and has 15-years of flying experience John Gurski, new to flying and owns a Great Planes PT-40 (Vic is his instructor) Tony Covino, 1st year member, and this is his first meeting Matt Garardi (friend of Mel S.) was a control line flyer 40 years ago and is now getting back into RC. Field Report With his carnival wit, Jack mentioned that the field is still there Not just for flying Out and About with Al Prudhomme, jr. On a early spring day I made a visit to the field, not much going on, but always enjoyable when visiting. I had noticed a family just off the walkway before the field...they were busy picking something. A short time later I was returning to my car, when I walked up to Mr. Hem, of Hem construction company of Lowell. They were a Cambodian family; Mrs, her sister and four children were all busy picking a small green weed with a small white flower on the top (no, but that the north runway needs a bit of work. He also reminded members to attend the upcoming field day. Dave P. discussed renting a high weed mower a handful of times throughout the year to mow the entire field (including the tall grasses surrounding the runways)? in lieu of contracting out the use of a tractor and mower once a year. At $69 per day rental fee, it makes fiscal and field sense to rent the mower. Raffle Winners Steve S. won the monster prize (a 60- size ARF) Ricardo won the heat gun Tony Covino won the fuel Paul C. won fuel Bob Johnson won the last wrench! Meeting was adjourned at approx. 9:30 pm. I don t know the name). Mr. Hem explained that this was a plant they love to pickle in a vinegar sauce then bottle it and enjoy it as we all enjoy a pickle...a very friendly family we had a short visit after introducing myself. Mr Hem spoke English very well, and appreciated my interest in what they were picking...then in true salesman form, Mr. Hem wondered if I had any home repair work I needed done, or know of anyone who might. He told me he does a number one job...i took his card and said goodbye. Great prizes and good food sure to be on hand! THINK SAFE! Don t forget we are all safety officers at our field. Respect the rules, respect each other and BE SAFE! 3 JUNE The Presidents Letter This is written as a visitor to the field for the first time, I won t mention anyone s name at this time but will have more to say at our June Meeting on June 13 th... I know we will have a great turnout, great meeting, show and tell and the raffle...please make this one, there is lots to discuss about the fun fly, flyin and barbecue probably in July... x.summer is almost here and we will not meet till next September. Back to the field for a moment... to the person seeing this for the first time, wow what a footprint, a fine windsock showing the intricacies of the wind, (yesterday, May 29 th it was first one direction, then another). Now interest would be heightened, this is not what one would expect to find in a open field. Then the fine sign with rules for the Burlington RC Out and About with Al Prudhomme, jr. (continued from page 2) I thought later how in my far east experiences, I remembered all sorts of things pickled, why not a nice fresh growth on the wooded floor...at the entrance to the field. There you have it the field About the cover: Flyers...clear, concise and in detail for maximum enjoyment and safety for all of us...i think the new visitor to the field would be very impressed by the above mentioned. Then a brief rest on one of the great benches...well you get the picture. All positive and very impressive...now if any one was flying that day, the visitor would, I have no doubt, meet a member who would be full of information and explain the hobby of flying a model plane. At the November 05 meeting I mentioned these two things on my wish list for this year, even asked for a committee to do this. Well it has been done and did not have to fool around with a committee. It has happened and the field looks great with these two additions (windsock and sign). Many thanks to everyone involved - GREAT JOB!! This effectively lets a visitor know who we are and that we use this great field, having fun and using it responsibly.
