ABSTRACT:Generlly, mortr is uniform combintion of Fine ggregte nd cement. In this study n innovtive concept dopts to synthesis hybrid mortr with Epoxy resin, Fly sh nd qurry dust which re replcing the fine ggregte nd cement. The lterntive mterils re preferbly wste products such s qurry dust nd fly sh in order to moderte the cost of mortr. The min objective of this work is to study the compressive strength of mortr cubes by vrious combintions of cement nd fine ggregte replced by Epoxy resin, fly sh, nd qurry dust t the ge of 7 dys. The results of mortrmde with cement replced with 20%, 25%, nd 30% (w/w) of Epoxy resin, nd fine ggregte replced by (0% QD - 100% FA) (100% QD - 0% FA) nd (70% QD - 30% FA) of qurry dust nd fly sh were compred with conventionl mortr cubes. It ws observed tht ll mortr cubes mde with Epoxy resin, fly sh, nd qurry dust hd found to hve compressive strength of more thn 150% when compred to compressive strength with norml cement of OPC53 grde t the ge of 7 dys (Approx.35.5Mp). INTRODUCTION The use of fly sh in mortr nd concrete is desirble becuse of benefits such s useful disposl of byproduct, incresed workbility, reduction of cement consumption, incresed sulphte resistnce, incresed resistnce to lkli-silic rection nd decresed permebility. However, the use of fly sh leds to reduction in erly strength of concrete. The decrese in workbility cn be improved by replcing certin percentge of fly sh by qurry dust. The concurrent use of the two by-products will led to rnge of economic nd environmentl benefits. They re Low Therml (LT) fly sh operting t combustion temperture of degrees centigrde nd High Therml (HT) fly sh operting t the temperture of degrees centigrde. It is observed tht both LT nd HT fly shes behve distinctly different. Use of fly sh in structurl concrete is cceptble s per IS 456. Qurry dust hs been proposed s n lterntive to river snd tht gives dditionl benefit to mortr. Qurry dust is known to increse the strength of concrete over concrete mde with equl quntities of river snd, but it cuses reduction in the workbility of concrete. When exmining the bove qulities of fly sh nd qurry dust it becomes pprent tht if both re used together, the loss in erly strength due to one my be llevited by the gin in strength due to the other, nd the loss of workbility due to the one my be prtilly negted by the improvement in workbility cused by the inclusion of the other. Epoxy is term used to denote both the bsic components nd the cured end products of epoxy resins, s well s colloquil nme for the epoxide functionl group. Epoxy resins, lso known s poly-epoxides re clss of rective pre-polymers nd polymers which contin epoxide groups. Epoxy resins my be rected (cross-linked) either with themselves through ctlytic homopolymeriztion, or with wide rnge of co-rectnts including polyfunctionl mines, cids (nd cid nhydrides), phenols, nd lcohols. These co-rectnts re often referred to s hrdeners or curtives, nd the cross-linking rection is commonly referred to s curing. Rection of polyepoxides with themselves or with polyfunctionl hrdeners forms thermosetting polymer, often with high mechnicl properties, temperture nd chemicl resistnce. NEED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF SAND AND CEMENT Lrge scle efforts re required for reducing the usge of the rw mteril tht is present, so tht lrge replcement is done using the vrious by-product mterils tht re vilble in the present dy. Mterils like fly sh especilly Clss F fly sh is very useful s the fine ggregtes. The fly sh is obtined from the therml power plnts which is by-product formed during the burning of the col. The other mteril tht cn be used is qurry dust which ismde while in the processing of the Grnite stone into ggregtes, this is formed s fine dust in the crushers tht process the corse ggregtes, which is used s filler mteril in the rod formtionson lrge scle. Mny studies re mde with severl other mterils which gve the concrete to be mteril mde of recycled mteril but the prmeters tht re primry for the mteril ws not stisfied. Epoxy resins re the most commonly used thermo set plstic in polymer mtrix composites. Epoxy resins re fmily of thermo set plstic mterils which do not give off rection products when they cure nd so hve low cure shrinkge. They lso hve good dhesion to other mterils, good chemicl nd environmentl resistnce, good chemicl properties nd good insulting properties. The epoxy resins re generlly mnufctured by recting epichlorohydrinwith bisphenol. Different resins re formed by vrying proportions of the two: s the proportion of epichlorohydrin is reduced the moleculr weight of the resin is incresed. The properties of Fly sh re s follows. Fineness of test Fly sh : 94%, Specific grvity of test Fly sh : 2.55 The chemicl properties of fly sh re given in Tble2. Physicl properties of Epoxy resin: Arldite AW 106 resin/hrdener HV 953U epoxy dhesive is multipurpose, viscous mteril tht is suitble for bonding vriety of mterils including metl, cermic nd wood. Arldite AW 106 resin/hrdener HV 953U epoxy dhesive cures t tempertures from 68ºF (20ºC) to 356ºF (180ºC) with no relese of voltile constituents. Methodology dopted for the compression strength test: The compressive strength test is conducted on mortr cubes. Code of Prctice: Is: 4031 (Prt-6) Apprtus description nd specifiction: 1. Compression testing mchine 2. Vibrtion mchine conforming to IS Guging trowels conforming to IS CUBICAL MOULD: The mould shll be of 70.6 mm size conforming to IS Mesuring jrs, try IV. MIX PROPORTIONS, MIXING& CASTING The pplinces tht re to be used kept clen nd dry. Ech cube shll be mixed seprtelywith the quntities of cement, snd nd wter, nd they shll be 200 grms, 600 grms nd (P/4+3.5) percentge of combined weight of cement nd snd respectively. Where P is the stndrd consistency of the cement used. The snd 600 grms is tken in three equl rtios of 2mm, 1mm nd 0.6mm prticle sizes. The mixture of cement nd snd in the proportion of (1:3) by weight is plced on non-porous plte. Mix it in dry stte with trowel nd then with wter until the mixture is of uniform color. The time of mixing shll in ny event be not less thn 3 minutes. Now this mixture is filled in 70.6 mm 3 of cube moulds. Remove the specimens from the csted moulds nd then cured for 7 dys nd 28 dys in potble wter. Lter t 7 dys nd 28 dys curing the specimens re tested under compressive testing mchine for compression test ccording to IS: 516 nd the results re presented under the results heding. V. Results Vrious combintions of mixes re tried nd the sme re shown in Tble 3. The compressive strength vlues for 7 dys curing period for ll mixes re shown in Tbles 4 to 6. The reltive comprison of compressive strengths of ll mixes is shown in Figures 1 to 4. Sem Anlysis Scnning electron microscopy (SEM) nlyses the surfces of mterils, prticles nd fibers so tht fine detils cn be mesured nd ssessed vi imge nlysis. SEM provides mens for industry to resolve contmintion issues, investigte component filure, identify unknown prticultes or study the interction between substnces nd their substrtes. It cn lso provide welth of informtion to support reserch of mterils, chemicls or biologicl smples. The process of interpreting SEM imges is not lwys cler nd direct. In tsks such s the interprettion of surfce pitting on metl components the identifiction of prticultes, or the explortion of physicl nd chemicl chrcteristics of mteril, SEM becomes truly powerful technique if pproprite smple preprtion methods re used nd experienced microscopists perform the nlysis. From figure C, it revels tht the fly sh prticles hving size nd microns hving bond length is less thn 1.0 microns nd from figure D, it lso revels tht the fly sh prticles hving size nd 3.30 microns hving bond length microns which supports the high strength mortr results. VII. CONCLUSIONS From the bove study the following conclusions re drwn. 1. From Figure-1, 2 & 3, All mixes re showed with 20%, 25% nd 30% epoxy resin more thn 150%, 175% nd 225% (respectively) of compressive strength respectively t the ge of 7 dys with OPC53grde mortr cubes of strength (35.5 Mp) s conventionl mix s per IS: From Figure-4, Mix(FA) with 30% Epoxy resin showed 30 to 15% more compressive strength were compred with blnce mixes Mix(QD), nd Mix(FA&QD) t sme 30% Epoxy resin. 3. From Figure-5, & 6, ccording to the SEM nlysis micro structure of Mix(FA) with 30% Epoxy shows its mssive structure without ny micro crcks, frctures nd lso voids. Hence it supports the reson for ttinment of mximum strength obtined in cse of FA-E30. REFERENCES [1].
