3 President s Message Hello fellow AVTI members! I hope everyone has been getting a lot of building in lately. With all the wind we ve been getting, it s been tough to get out and fly! The Lake Cachuma Float Fly was great fun. Attending from AVTI was myself, Mike and Jean, Tim Williams and Dick Skoglund. I got the first flights of my PBY in and along with other models I had a great time. Mike flew a bunch along with Tim. Dick stayed for Saturday and Sunday. These events are really great fun and this was a nice place to fly. The work party was done on the 23 rd of June. Thanks to all who attended. The runway was partially patched as some of the fill material had hardened in the can. We did get all the safety fencing replaced. The starting tables need to be completed, but that will have to wait until after the US Nats. Again, thanks to Preston for getting the materials. As you may have seen, the road to the helipad and the helipad area has been graded, the gravel moved to our site and smoothed over. Thanks to Bob Campbell for his help in arranging all this with Waste Management. Also, many thanks to Waste Management who did an outstanding job for us on this addition. They donated all the machinery, the time for the operators and all the fill material. I understand over 120 tons was moved along with all the grading. All the club has had to pay is $400 for truck rental. Hats off to all involved! Next on the list will be the laying of the concrete for the pads. We had the Scale Day on Saturday, July 7 th. It was a pretty light turnout, but I think those who were there had a good time. I know I did. I really enjoyed seeing the other s models and watching them fly. I got a few flights in with my new Cessna 310. It is a lot of work, but seeing it in the air is a great reward. scheduling and running these events for a bit. If anyone has an idea they may have for something they d like to do, just let us know. Next Board meeting will be July 28th at the field. See you at the field! Tony Frackowiak Great Job! ~~~~~~~~~ Vice-President s Message Surviving the heat has been the issue of the month! Saturday's Scale Event was mildly attended, and it's my guess that the heat had a lot to do with the turnout. My THANKS to all those who entered a model and took to the skies despite the heat! Thanks to Tony for orchestrating so many events for members to participate in, win prizes with, and to look forward to! Thanks to Jean Greear for taking over the treasurer's job while Joe is on vacation. Double duty is tough and we appreciate your dedication and assistance to the club! For Mike Greear and Jerry Budd: Good Luck at the NAT's and we are looking forward to rave reviews of each day's accomplishments! I'm looking forward to the Club's Night Fly on August 4th. Perhaps we need to have a club BBQ prior to take off? Wings level, Terry Hemmis The next club event will be on August 4 th and it will be a Night Fly. I am going to take a break from

4 Treasurer s Report Sorry I was unable to attend the previous meeting. My punishment has already been meted out I was elected as the new Treasurer! Our current checking account balance is $5, while the Flying Field Reserve (savings) is $16,485.86, making our total assets $21, Nineteen 2007/2008 AVTI Membership Cards have been issued through July 7 th (7 Regular, 8 Senior, 1 Family, 2 Life, and 1 Earned). Welcome to all the new members! Thanks to those members who have already renewed their memberships for this next year. Don t forget AMA membership is required to fly at the field. And club dues are to be paid by July 31 st! Silent Auction: As shown in the photo on the cover page, a 1960's McCoy blue head glow engine has been donated to the club. We are having a silent auction and if you would like to own it, any club member can make an offer to the treasurer via the Internet or in writing until the September club meeting when we will have a live auction. Your offer must be greater than the current offer to be accepted. The current offer will be posted on the website until September. At the September meeting the current offer will be available to start the silent auction. The person with highest (last) offer before the end of the meeting will win. This engine is new and never been used. It has the original package with instructions. You can go on the Internet to see its value. Joe Dagata Secretary s Report (Minutes of General Meeting on July 5, 2007) Newsletter: Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm. A motion was made and seconded to accept the June minutes as printed in the newsletter. Treasurer s report was given by Joe D. 17 members present If you have anything you would like to be in the newsletter mail it or it to Roger Counts by the 10 th of each month. Old Business: The Lake Cachuma Float Fly was fun, there was some wind but not enough to keep us grounded. Attending from AVTI was Tony F., Dick S., Tim W., Mike and Jean G. Tony got in the first flights with his PBY, it flew great. We all got in several flights and enjoyed the BBQ lunch they had prepared there in the campground. Dick was there both days and said Sunday was the better flying day of the two. These events are really great fun and this was a nice place to fly. The work party met on June 23 rd. Those who showed up to work were Tony F., Joe D., Mark J., Jerry B., Preston K., Tim W., Mike and Jean G. The runway was partially patched and smoothed as some of the fill material had hardened in the can. We did get all of the safety fencing replaced. We will work on the starting tables after the Nats. Thanks again to Preston for getting the materials. The helipad area and road leading to it have been graded and the gravel put down. It took over 120 tons of material to complete this project. It cost the club $400 to rent a truck to transport the material from the Waste Management facility to our site. Thank you Bob C. for spear-heading this project and getting the truck available for our use.

5 New Business: MODEL OF THE MONTH Welcome to Joe D. as the new treasurer and Roger C. as the newsletter editor. A Big thank you goes out to Glen and Dorothy for their time and dedication to the club and for the job well done as treasurer and newsletter editor. The next club event will be a Scale Day on Saturday July 7 th. There will be awards for the Most Realistic, Most Realistic in flight and a Pilot s Choice Award. Bring out your scale models and fly all day. August 4 th will be a Night Fly. Tony with his Cessna 310 September is looking pretty busy with the Scalemasters event, float fly events and pattern meets. So I m not sure if we will have a club event. Joe D. brought up concerns which will be further discussed at the board meeting. Next Board meeting will be 11:00, July 28 th field. at the Model of the Month: Tony F. brought in 2 planes. One was his Top Flight Cessna 310 powered with 2 Evolution 52 engines with the added wheel brakes. His other was the Great Planes SE 5A with a Park 450 in it. Here is some additional information: NOTICE Jim Merritt & Joe Soliz from Waste Management completed the grading & placing base on the road and The helipad red clothespins area today. Ron the Hawk frequency provided an end dump board and are driver, for use $ by those for a little flyers over using four the hours. He south moved flying 13 loads about 23 tons per load to the site from the landfill. The helipad area is looking good. Joe Soliz drove the road grader from 0900 to 1400 hrs, and one of the landfill employees completed numerous trips with the water truck to assist. AVTI received approximately 279 tons of base material, road grader and water truck hours and drivers all for free.
