2 MACQUARIE SCORPIONS RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB Macquarie Scorpions tackle violence head on The Macquarie Scorpions will be wearing their new jerseys with pride this season, as the Club is one of only two local rugby league clubs in the Newcastle and Hunter area selected to take part in the Let s Tackle Domestic Violence programme which is run by the Department of Premier and Cabinet. The Let s Tackle Domestic Violence programme sees selected football clubs and club member s act as ambassadors within the local community against the act of domestic violence. It is a huge honour that the Macquarie Scorpions were selected to take part in the programme and it will see every club official and team member sign a code of conduct that commits to refraining from domestic violence, agree to become community role models and participate in a community education campaign and display the Tackling Domestic Violence logo on the club jersey, game programmes and supporters merchandise, Both the club and players will also be affiliated with the Good Sports Program, an initiative of the Australian Drug Foundation that assists clubs manage alcohol responsibly as well as participate in a local television and radio campaign to help spread the word of the Let s Tackle Domestic Violence programme, said Macquarie Scorpion President, Kevin Maher. The Scorpions are gearing up for a strong 2014 season not only off the field with the Lets Tackle Domestic Violence programme but also on the field with its 2014 recruitment drive coming to a close before Christmas. We have completed our recruitment for 2014 and everything is looking in good shape. The coaching staff are very happy with their squads and before they broke from training for the Christmas break we were getting over 60 players to training and everyone is very positive and upbeat for our chances in 2014, concluded Kevin.

Your company or business name to be in the Newcastle Rugby League Program over 16 rounds of the competition and the first two semi final games. 2. Visual advertising and signage at the ground for our home games, Newcastle Knights trials in January and September each year and NSW Combined High Schools trials in May. 3. 8 COACHING STAFF 2014: The executive of Macquarie Scorpions has much pleasure in announcing the coaching staff for Macquarie Scorpions for the 2012 season. First Grade Coach: Barrie Moore: Barrie is a Macquarie Scorpions junior, playing for the Scorpions senior sides for a number of years before moving into coaching and having great success with Scorpions junior sides. Barry coached lower grades at Kurri Bulldogs before moving to South Newcastle to coach the Reserve Grade side to success. Barry has returned in 2012 to take over the Scorpions Reserve Grade and taking them to a Reserve Grade premiership in Reserve Grade Coach: Luke Garrard: Luke is a life member of the Scorpions and started with the club in 2004 playing over 150 grade games for the Scorpions and playing in the 2006 Reserve Grade premiership side Under 23 s Coach: Jamie Watts: Watts, who played for the Scorpions in the 2006 and 2007 seasons and played in the first grade semi-final side in Has had great success with the West Wallsend club Under 18 s Coach: Paul Terry: Terry has been appointed coach of the under-18s for 2014 after taking the Macquarie United Junior under-17 side to a premiership in Paul has coached Macquarie United Schoolboy sides for many years MACQUARIE SCORPIONS RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB

If you are not already aware, the club has undergone a rebuilding process over the last four years and we are of the view we have achieved this with great success With a new more progressive image, the club has a forward thinking committee that is striving to gain the best for the club, the local community and our sponsors. In 2104 we will be involved again in the very successful Lets Tackle Domestic Violence Program through the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Federal Government. In the upcoming season we intend to be a major player in the Newcastle Rugby League competition, one of our key objectives for 2014 is to build on our success from 2013 and again make the semi finals in our senior grades and hopefully win the premiership. With the quality signings we have made for 2014 we feel this is well within our reach. The club also intends to utilise its position within the local community to nurture and develop young talent from our growing junior and schoolboy clubs, so they have opportunities to play rugby league at the highest level possible in the future. 10 ABOUT THE CLUB Macquarie Scorpions: Newcastle Knights: Macquarie District: One of 9 District Clubs that make up the Newcastle Rugby league the Newcastle Division of the Country Rugby league. Affiliated with the Newcastle Knights through the Newcastle Rugby League. Macquarie Scorpions supplies many junior players to the Knights. Includes the major townships of Toronto and Morisset in the western and southern areas of Lake Macquarie and the boundary extends as far north as Cameron Park Four Junior Clubs- Macquarie, South Lakes, Wangi Wangi and West Wallsend with over 600 players Three 2 nd Division Clubs- West Wallsend, Morisset and Dora Creek. Macquarie became a First Grade Club of the Newcastle Rugby League in 1960, the club held its 50 year anniversary in The Macquarie Scorpions were successful in winning a First Grade Premiership in 1991 and Reserve Grade Premierships in , 2008 and 2013 and were Open Grade Premiers in 2008 the club was beaten grand finalists in 1994, finalist in 1967, 1974 and 1978 and semi finalists in 1968, 1981, 1995, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012 and Macquarie Scorpions promotes itself as a community based organization, providing recreational and leisure activities for the youth and general population of Western and Southern Lake Macquarie. We have a commitment to the development of junior rugby league in the area and providing opportunities for junior players to play rugby league at the highest level possible. Through these activities the club provides business opportunities for and trade with commercial operations, primarily in the local district.
