King s forced seven turnovers Friday night. AVERY HAMMAN 8 SOLO TACKLES1 FUMBLE RECOVERY DANNY BOGEN 2 FUMBLE RECOVER- IES Johnny Chen and Danny Bogen each record two defensive turnovers By Sam Roach At Woolsey Stadium last Friday night, King s rode the momentum of seven turnovers by Cedar Park Christian on their way to a Cascade Conference victory. Leading the Knight s defensively was Johnny Chen with nine tackles, one fumble recovery and an interception and Danny Bogen with two fumble recoveries. King s jumped out to an early lead on a twenty yard pass from Brennon Blevins to Jace Fransen and then the turnovers began. Bogen jumped on a muffed quarterback snap to give the Knights a short field at the Cedar Park 23. Five plays later, the Knights had their second touchdown and a twelve point lead following a six yard run by Blevins. Blevins would end the game with 111 yards rushing and four rushing touchdowns. In addition, the senior would complete 11 of 14 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns. The leading receiver for King s was Levi Bundrant with four receptions for 77 yards and one touchdown. Until midway through the third quarter, Cedar Park, running both a traditional Wing - T offense and an occasional spread formation, was able to keep the game close before King s capitalized on the Eagles turnovers to score 20 unanswered points and put the game out of reach. Along with Chen and Bogen, other King s defenders who had a big defensive night were Avery Hamann, Colin Hamilton, Logan Perrigo and Jerad Stretton. Hamann had nine solo tackles and recovered one fumble. solo tackles and six assists. With the victory, King s Perrigo also had seven took a big step toward earning the number 1 1-A seed from the Cascade Conference in the District 1 playoffs next month and improved their overall record to 3-3. King s next game will be on the road this Friday against a much improved Granite Falls Tigers team in a battle for second place in the Cascade Conference. Granite Falls has an identical record to the Knights. Both teams have beaten Cedar Park Christian and Cedarcrest and lost to Archbishop Murphy. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.

Knights ride Gabelein s two touchdowns for second win of the season By Sam Roach The junior varsity game on Monday had everything any football fan could ask for in a game. There were two evenly matched football teams, a running back on each team with the capability to take the game over and an outcome that wasn t decided until the clock read double zero in the fourth quarter. The South Whidbey Falcon running back was a 5 7, 167 pound freshman named CH Chapman. He was fast and elusive. The Knights had 6, 180 pound sophomore Michael Gabelein with a running style that could best be described as more bruising. Both players, at different points in the game, took it over with their speed and athleticism and each scored a pair of touchdowns. In the end however, Gabelein was surrounded by a better supporting cast and the J.V. Knights earned their second win of the season Both teams exchanged possessions in the first quarter and the game was scoreless until, with 16 seconds remaining, Chapman broke free for the first of his two touchdowns, a 64 yard toss sweep that he bounced outside and raced down the sideline to the end zone. On the next possession, Chapman would score again on a 46 yard run. On both plays, he just outran defenders on his way to the end zone. Trailing 16-0, late in the second quarter, King s got on the scoreboard when Casey Needham found Noah Welch in the corner of the end zone for a 27 yard touchdown pass that cut the deficit to eight points Early in the third quarter, Needham would score from 3 yards out to tie the game. The game remained tied until midway through the 4th quarter when it was Gabelein time. Gabelein took a toss from Needham, broke four tackles and ran 76 yards down the right sideline to give King s a lead with just over seven minutes left in regulation. South Whidbey wasn t quite finished however as they began what looked to be a comeback drive eating up yardage at five to ten yards a play. Although the Knights defense stiffened, it wasn t enough and, at the 1:24 mark, South Whidbey punched the ball in the end zone and added the conversion to take a one point lead. Gabelein and the King s Knights, counterpunched right back. One of the unique features that s in the DNA of football at King s High School is that the game s not over until the clock reads double zero. The J.V. Knights showed the world what that looks like. Michael Bicknell returned the kickoff to midfield. A pass interference call on the next play against the Falcons moved the ball to the 35 and then Gabelein took over. For the remainder of the drive, the sophomore running back was the only one to carry the ball. 30 yards on a sweep to the 5 yard line, three more tough yards to the 2. Two plays later Gabelein plowed in from the 2 yard line to score and give King s six points to secure their second victory of the season. With the win, the J.V. Knights record improved to King s next game will be against Granite Falls next Monday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30.
