Newsletter of Lincoln Bowmen A BIG THANKS to all who participated in the June Poker Room fundraiser! Our planned surplus of $3,350 was exceeded, and we actually made $4,180. Of the 4 shifts, members worked 13 and Directors covered 11. Watch the August Newsletter for information on the next Poker Room to be held September 15, 6, 17 & 18. The Wild Game Dinner and Poker Rooms are the fundraisers that keep membership fees low (no increase in 7 years). It is these fundraisers that help us maintain a first class facility - heck, a world class facility! Scott Rhind Treasurer scottyrhind@gmail.com (734) Upcoming Coon Shoot On Saturday, August 7th, 016 at 7:00 PM, Lincoln Bowmen will be holding its annual Coon Shoot. This is a free club event for members only. The club will be providing hot dogs, pops, and water. Shooters bring their favorite dish to pass and share. Shooters hit the woods at dusk (approximately 8:30 PM) armed with flashlights and shooting at paper targets (raccoon, fox, coyote, skunk, etc.) with glowing eyes! The evening culminates with a campfire and awards after shooting is complete. New for 016 is a separate class and award for traditional shooters! Sign up today! Event chairperson is Dave Hallenbeck. 2 Presidents Corner - Jim Mende Poker Room - If you missed the poker room, you missed a good time people watching! A big shout out to all the people who gave of their time. Scott Rhind thank you for overseeing our participation in this General Elections - I want to remind everyone that club elections are coming up in September. Note that any class A member is eligible to serve as a director of the club, but you must be a Class A member for one (1) year to hold an officers position. Everyone that is interested in running for the board, please let me know as soon as possible. My and phone number are at the end of the newsletter. Have a safe summer! Messages from the Board Larry McNew - The is well underway. The league started on June nd and will end on August 18 th ; the banquet will follow on Saturday August 0 th. There are sixteen teams shooting this year. The last posting of scores showed that there is only a point or two between 1 st, nd and 3 rd place. I would like to thank Scott Wakefield again this year with his help of getting the tee-shirts. The new pavilion has been a great gathering place for our league. We have had several great cookouts already this year under the new structure, including the annual fish fry. Remember you don t have to be a member of the league to shoot with us or to enjoy the cookouts, so stop on by on any Thursday night and join us. Jim McGinnis - At the June Safari Shoot we had what was called a Black Stake shoot. It is known yardage out to 80 yards. Cost for the shoot was a $0 entry fee; $10 went to the club, $5 went to first place, $3 went to second place and $ went to third place. Tad Lenhart took 1st place with a 93, Eric Kirk took nd place with a 85, and 3rd was Tim Price with 84. Great shooting!! Everyone who shot the course had a great time! We are planning another Black Stake shoot in September. July 10th is our Annual Toughman Shoot. We have some new targets and shot ideas so come out and have some fun! In order to have successful shoots and have fun we must put forth the effort. We have Saturday work parties almost every week, weather permitting, so come out and share in the pride and success of the club. Doesn t take but a few hours once a week and we all share in the benefits. Hope to see some new faces helping out the same faces on Saturdays! Also this month we had Art Brown come in and repair our McKenzie targets. He did a great job. I shoot all over southeast Michigan and I must say, we have the Nicest Targets around! Mike Perez - Members please note the following: We received notification from Brownstown Township that due to the dry conditions, there will be NO BURNING OR BONFIRES allowed until further notice. Kudos on the Safari Shoot! The Black Stake format of the Safari Shoot was a big hit with shooters. Comments from Tim Price, who won 3rd place, very positive and complimentary. The format was like the Redding shoot. 3D targets, orange dot on the center 11 ring and marked distance out to 80 yards. The guys did a great job setting up the course. When they said they didn't think anyone would shoot even on it they weren't joking. Plenty of targets to keep you on your toes and they made good use of the land that Lincoln has (that target 30 tunnel shot was a bitch). It was their first time running this type event and I really enjoyed myself and will definitely be back for the next. JULY 016 JULY 016 Newsletter of Lincoln Bowmen
3 Co-Chair for Poker Room Fundraisers The Lincoln Bowmen Board is seeking a co-chair for the Poker fundraiser committee. This position would recruit and schedule volunteers for the September fundraiser event. Responsibilities include selecting the 017 Poker Room dates and learning the licensing and reporting process. Any interested members should attend the August 3rd Board Meeting at 7:30 PM. Scott Rhind Treasurer scottyrhind@gmail.com (734) Co-Chair for the Wild Game Dinner We are seeking a co-chair for the Wild Game Dinner, which will be held sometime in late February, 017. This person would participate in selecting the dinner date, coordinate the major raffle prizes, Order needed supplies, and recruit volunteers to work the day of the event. Monthly meetings are held before each Board meeting in the months of October through February. Any interested members should attend the August 3 rd Board Meeting (7:30pm). Scott Rhind Treasurer scottyrhind@gmail.com (734) Hunters Safety Education We had 4 students in attendance at the 016 Hunters Safety Education class and 4 students that attended Field Day after taking an online class at an additional cost. We gained a new instructor; Mrs Janice Klein who has agreed to become a recurring instructor. Janice brings great experience and professional coaching to the team. Thanks to Holly Pizzini for bringing her crew for computer and clerical help on Saturday, and taking on the medical section - alone! On Sunday Holly and Janice taught the archery section of the class, taking the future archers outside to learn the basics of how to shoot a bow. Feedback from students and parents was so positive that when Nick Adams stopped in for a visit he was introduced to everyone as the man to see to learn archery. Nick graciously addressed the crowd, greeting and encouraging his current students before departing. Ed Heyard and Anthony Pizzini provided a very humorous comparison of old versus new muzzleloaders! You just had to be there to appreciate it but the students loved it! Thank you Ed for being such a great sport! One very energetic and outspoken young lady started calling Anthony "Candyman" for passing out bait piles of candy to students who participated or thought outside the box in answering questions. This class was either very energized by the trainers or riding a sugar high! What ever the case may be, students and parents stayed to help with clean up. And for that, we thank you! A big THANK YOU to Kent VanKammen for putting everything together and allowing the instructors to put their personality into teaching and interacting with the students. THANK YOU TO ALL who contributed to our success, including Anthony Pizzini, Holly Pizzini and her crew (Ashley Smith, Ashley Mazur, Madison Monette), Janice Klein, Ed Heyard, Nick Adams. 3 JULY 016 JULY 016 Newsletter of Lincoln Bowmen
