Rationale Policy Statement Uniform, Grooming and Presentation Uniform, Grooming and Presentation Standards reflect the community expectations and standards as determined by the College Leadership Team in consultation with school community representatives. students should at all times present a positive image to the community where they are in regular contact with prospective employers, future parents and students and members of the general public. 2. Aims believes that a clearly stated and sensibly implemented Uniform, Grooming and Presentation policy is important for the following reasons: a. A student s standard of grooming is a reflection of and also a reflection of a student s willingness to be a responsible member of the College community. b. The development of gifts and talents, whether they be physical, intellectual, spiritual, cultural or social is an important task at a school. A uniform is a means of enabling all students to stand out and be different not in the way they look, but in how they use their gifts and talents. Where people seek to stand out because their appearance is different, is to detract from the recognition of their other more meaningful abilities. 3. Implementation All students are expected to wear full correct College uniform, follow grooming and presentation guidelines, in a way which is consistent with the specific points below. 3.1 Formal Uniform a. Boys School Formal Uniform i. Prep: StAC house polo shirt, Eagles sport shorts, StAC sport socks, StAC wide brim hat, sports shoes. StAC Prep fleece jumper in winter, as well as with plain navy fleece tracksuit pants. ii. Early/Junior Years (Year 1-5): StAC blue day shirt, StAC navy shorts, navy ankle socks, StAC wide brim hat, black shoes. StAC maroon jumper in winter, as well as with StAC navy school trousers, with the exception of Year 1, who may wear the StAC Prep fleece jumper and StAC navy school trousers. Day shirt is to be worn untucked. iii. Middle Years (Year - 9): StAC blue day shirt, StAC navy tailored day shorts, black leather belt, StAC knee high socks, StAC bucket hat or cap, black formal shoes. StAC maroon jumper in winter, as well as with StAC navy tailored trousers (optional). Day shirt is to be worn untucked, socks are to be worn pulled up. iv. Senior Years (Year 10-12): StAC white day shirt with StAC senior tie, StAC navy tailored day shorts, black leather belt, StAC knee high socks, StAC Formal wide brim hat, black formal shoes. StAC maroon jumper in winter, as well as with StAC navy tailored trousers (optional). Day shirt is to be tucked in, socks are to be worn pulled up and tie worn in Term 2 and 3. b. Girls School Formal Uniform i. Prep: StAC house polo shirt, Eagles sport shorts, StAC sport socks, StAC wide brim hat sports shoes. StAC Prep fleece jumper in winter, as well as with plain navy fleece tracksuit pants. ii. Early/Junior Years (Year 1-5): StAC dress with StAC navy tie, navy ankle socks, StAC wide brim hat, black shoes. StAC maroon jumper in winter, as well as with navy tights or stockings, with the exception of Year 1, who may wear the StAC Prep fleece jumper. iii. Middle Years (Year - 9): StAC blue blouse with StAC maroon tie, StAC navy skirt, white ankle socks, StAC bucket hat or cap, black formal shoes. StAC maroon jumper in winter, as well as with navy tights or stockings. Skirt is to be worn below the knee and white socks visible above the shoe. iv. Senior Years (Year 10-12): StAC white blouse with StAC senior tie, StAC navy skirt, white ankle socks, StAC formal wide brim hat, black formal shoes. StAC maroon jumper in winter, as well as with navy tights or stockings. Skirt is to be worn below the knee and white socks visible above the shoe. 3.2 Sports Uniform (Prep - Year 12) a. The full sports uniform consists of: StAC house polo, Eagles sport shorts, StAC sport socks, StAC hat (precinct specific), sports shoes, StAC tracksuit or StAC maroon jumper in winter, with the exception of Prep and Year 1 students, who may wear the StAC Prep navy fleece jumper and navy fleece track pants. b. The full sports uniform must be worn on the days the students have HPE and/or swimming, or as advised to do so for other events and classes. One day per week will be designated at the beginning of the year for Year 11 and Year 12 students who do not participate in PE to wear their sports uniform. 3.3 Multi-purpose and Representative Uniform a. Multi-purpose Uniform i. The StAC multi-purpose sport shirt and singlet are not to be worn as part of the school uniform unless advised to do so. ii. The StAC multi-purpose bike pant may only be worn on days that the students are advised to do so in relation to sporting events, however, they may be worn under the StAC dress or StAC navy skirt. iii. The StAC Rugby League jersey, Shorts and Socks are not to be worn as part of the school uniform unless advised to do so. iv. The StAC Netball dress is not to be worn as part of the school uniform unless advised to do so. v. The StAC Eagles crop top may only be worn for sporting events when students are advised to do so, however, it they may be worn under any of the formal or sport uniform tops. b. Representative Uniform i. The Representative Polo and Training shirt are not to be worn as part of the school uniform; they may only be worn outside of school hours for events relating to the representative sport, e.g. before school training or formal events in relation to the sport. 3.4 Cultural Uniform a. Cultural multi-purpose shirt is to be worn for dance, drama and choir performances. These are not be worn at school as part of the uniform unless advised to do so. b. Cultural tights are to be worn in dance and drama performances. These are not to be worn at school as part of the uniform unless advised to do so. c. Cultural pants are to be worn in dance and drama performances. These are not to be worn at school as part of the uniform unless advised to do so. 3.5 StAC Tracksuit a. The StAC tracksuit (top and bottom) are not to be worn with the formal uniform. b. The StAC tracksuit is multi-use and can be worn with the StAC sports uniform, multi-purpose uniform, representative uniform, and cultural uniform. 3. Shoes a. Formal Uniform i. Prep: Sports joggers; these may be lace-up or Velcro. No open shoes or canvas style shoes are allowed, as Prep students will be working in a workshop environment where closed in shoes are required for safety reasons and they will also need to provide the necessary support for PE and sports activities. ii. Early/Junior Years (Year 1-5): Black leather closed in dress shoes (no buckles or Velcro) or black leather joggers (lace up or Velcro). iii. Middle Years (Year - 9): Formal/dress black leather, lace-up, low heeled shoes. iv. Senior Years (Year 10-12): Formal/dress black leather, lace-up, low heeled shoes. b. Sports Uniform (Unisex, All Precincts) i. The purpose of wearing sports shoes is to ensure the safe participation in a range of active sports. ii. The key considerations in establishing sports shoe requirements include: purpose designed shoes, protection Page 4 of 15 Page 5 of 15

4 of feet on hard surfaces, appropriate arch support for active activity, sole with a reasonable thickness, minimising fashion as a consideration. iii. Sports shoes for use at St Augustine s should be specifically designed for a variety of running activities and sports including but not limited to cross training, netball, tennis and some forms of basketball. iv. The sports shoes must be lace up. v. Coloured shoes are acceptable providing that they meet the conditions outlined above. vi. We recognize that some sports such as Touch Football, Rugby League, Soccer, AFL and some levels of Basketball to name a few, require sport specific footwear. Students who play sports that require a specific shoe need to bring them to school and change for their games. Students wearing inappropriate sports shoes will not be able to participate in sporting or Health and Physical Education activities. Flat sole canvas shoes such as Volleys, Converse, Vans, Skate shoes and fashion shoes (even if they are made by a sports shoe company) are unacceptable for sporting activity, as is open back footwear. 3. Hats a. Hats are an integral part of the school uniform, due to their role in ensuring sun safety. b. Students are to have hats with them on every school day, regardless of season. c. Students must wear the correct precinct StAC hat for all breaks and outside activities this includes travelling to and from school and between classes. i. Prep: StAC wide brim hat. ii. Early/Junior Years (Year 1-5): StAC wide brim hat. iii. Middle Years (Year - 9): StAC bucket hat or cap. iv. Senior Years (Year 10-12): StAC formal wide brim hat to be worn with formal uniform, StAC bucket hat or cap to be worn with sports uniform. 3.8 Blazers a. The College has a supply of professional blazers that students may borrow for particular occasions e.g. introducing or presenting at formal events, or representing the College at outside events. b. There are no plans or intentions to have blazers as part of our uniform, but there are occasions on which a blazer is appropriate wear; and we want our students to dress smart and well at such times. c. All borrowing is short term. We expect that blazers will be well looked after, returned promptly, and the family will payfor dry cleaning if there was a mishap. d. All borrowing of blazers is coordinated through the Assistant Principal Student Well-being, including booking to avoid problems at short notice. 3.9 Bags a. All students must have a bag. b. Three different size school bags are available to accommodate all precincts. c. The StAC Eagles Sports/ Dance bag is only available from Year and is not designed to carry school books; it is designed to complement the school bag, carrying extra clothes and other items required for sport and dance Hair a. Hair is to be kept clean, neat and tidy, kept away from the face. If hair is below the collar, hair is to be tied back in hair ties/ribbons/scrunchies in the College colours (maroon, navy blue or teal). Alternatively, in natural colours that match the student s hair (brown, black etc.) b. While we allow students to show their individuality, the style and colour should not draw undue attention to themselves. c. Closely shaved heads, dreadlocks and any other styles considered to be contrary to the policy and spirit of the College will not be accepted. d. Boys are to be clean shaven Jewellery a. Minimal tasteful, conservative jewellery is acceptable with the school uniform. b. Two piercings in the lobe of each ear are permitted, with only sleepers and standard surgical studs. c. No rings or wrist jewellery allowed, except for a watch and medical bracelet. d. One fine necklace, with the option of a discreet and suitable medallion may be worn. e. Boys may wear one stud in one ear lobe. f. Earrings should not be more than 3mm in size. g. Other visible piercings are not permitted Tattoos a. Tattoos are not permitted with the school uniform Make Up a. Students must not wear any overt make-up unless approval has been granted for medical reasons. Only foundation make-up (skin tone) may be worn for sun protection. Nail polish, acrylic or gel nails, if worn are restricted to a nude colour. Nails must be maintained to a short length so as to not interfere with acitivities such as cooking, sport etc. Students not complying with these guidelines will be required to remove the make-up/nail polish/acrylic or gel nails and parents will be notified. 4. Non-Uniform School Occasions Students pay a specified donation for the privilege of wearing a non-uniform. It is expected that students will wear clothing appropriate for an educational environment, adhering to workplace health and safety requirements such as being sun-safe and wearing enclosed footwear. Students must refrain from wearing revealing and/or offensive garments. 5. Exceptions to Uniform a. Where faith necessitates, the school will make appropriate arraignments to balance these with school uniform requirements. b. Senior jerseys are not part of the school uniform; they are an optional item that will be allocated a certain day for wear, which is purchased with full knowledge of this condition. c. On occasions of extreme heat, parents and students will be notified when students are permitted to wear their sport uniform in lieu of their formal uniform.. Labelling a. All uniform items are to be clearly labelled with a student s name, to avoid loss, theft, confusion and to assist in the return of misplaced items.. Breaches of this Policy Students who fail to wear the correct uniform will be issued with a uniform infringement. Consequences for multiple uniform infringements in any given term are as follows: i. 3 uniform infringements = Home Group Teacher contacts parents and carers. ii. 4 uniform infringements = Pastoral Leader contacts parents and carers. iii. 5 uniform infringements = meeting with Head of School, afternoon detention to be considered. iv. uniform infringements = parent meeting with the Head of School Personal Hygiene a. Students are expected to take responsibility at all times for their own cleanliness. b. Students should use deodorant and/or antiperspirant if required. Page of 15 Page of 15
