4 ...get involved... Hold on tight, Doncaster s EXPECT Summer is almost here! THANKS TO FUNDING FROM THE DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION SOCIAL MOBILITY OPPORTUNITY AREA FUND FOR DONCASTER, EXPECT YOUTH ARE DELIVERING A PROGRAMME OF FUN, FREE ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS MANY AREAS OF DONCASTER. Children and young people are able to attend activities FREE of charge. Activities are designed to help get them active and build essential life skills whilst having fun throughout the school holidays! The wide range of FREE activities are available mornings and afternoons, Monday to Friday throughout the six-week school holidays. EXPECT Summer is being delivered in partnership by Club Doncaster Foundation, Flying Futures, EPIC, Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, Active Fusion, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, darts (Doncaster Community Arts) and dozens of voluntary youth organisations that are contributing to EXPECT Summer. 04
5 SO, WHAT WILL THE PROGRAMME CONSIST OF? EXPECT Summer includes weekly camps, as well as daily specific sports, arts, culture and educational activity sessions. These will take place in a number of areas including Thorne, Moorends, Hexthorpe, Balby, Edlington, Conisbrough, Denaby, Rossington and Mexborough. Activities will be at a number of facilities and venues including Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs), community centres, libraries, sports centres and schools. An EXPECT Summer mobile engagement bus will also operate across the areas to publicise the programme and encourage young people to attend. We are committed to creating opportunities for children and young people to lead a healthy, active lifestyle that will help them unlock their talent and fulfil their potential. EXPECT Summer activities will help aid the development of their essential life skills to help them deal with the challenges of everyday life at school, college and employment. The Social Mobility Opportunity Area funding means that more of our children and young people will have an opportunity to get involved and I encourage parents and guardians to take advantage of these great activities. They will help keep children and young people entertained whilst at the same time they can develop new skills, have fun and make new friends. EXPECT SUMMER COMMENCES ON MONDAY 23 JULY AND RUNS UNTIL FRIDAY 31 AUGUST. FULL DETAILS OF ALL THE ACTIVITIES, WHERE AND WHEN THEY TAKE PLACE AND HOW TO GET INVOLVED ARE ALL CONTAINED UPON OUR WEBSITE www. Peter Norman Strategic Development Director
