CHFL GRAND FINAL PREVIEW On behalf of the CHFL Board of Management and member clubs, I welcome you all to the 2017 CHFL grand final at the new Mars Stadium. This is a great day for the league to be the first district league within Australia with the opportunity to play its grand finals on an AFL standard stadium. I congratulate all teams in both football and netball on reaching the grand finals and wish you all the best for the day, the finals series has seen some of the coldest days we have witnessed in a few years now however this did not dampen the spirits of those competing to play off in the grand final matches today. Nor did it deter supporters coming to matches across the last three weeks with the crowds equal to those in recent years on all days. Each year there are some clubs who have success and others which find that success does not come their way. However, in any competition there will end up being just one premier but this does not mean that others are not successful. Community football and netball clubs continue to be very important contributors to their local areas and the overall social benefits are far more important than just assessing the year on whether a premiership has been achieved. Being an important component of your community and in some cases the largest community organisation in the town, is a great contribution which all that make your club what it is should be proud of. Thank you to sponsors of the Central Highlands FL in particular the Bendigo Bank and Rural Bank who are the leagues naming rights sponsor. The leagues sponsorship base is a great support to the league and goes towards enabling a successful football program to be delivered to the CHFL community each season. Congratulations to all award winners in both football and netball; Geoff Taylor medallist Dave Benson (Bungaree) for the second year in a row, Reserves best and fairest winner Scott Winduss (Daylesford) Senior leading goal kicker Tim Boyle (Waubra) and Reserves award winner Bernard Whelan (Ballan). This is the third time Bernard has won the reserves goal kicking which is a fine effort. U18 best and fairest, Bryce Coffey (Hepburn) U15 best and fairest winner Lucas Blazko (Gordon) and leading goal kickers U18 Alister Ferrier (Hepburn) and U15 Connor Palmer (Carngham Linton) I congratulate Central Highlands Netball League President Rebecca McMahon, the league executive and all netball players on another very successful year for the Central Highlands Netball League. 2 GRAND FINAL Saturday 9th September 2017

CHNL GRAND FINAL PRESIDENTS PROGRAM MESSAGE Welcome Official Guests, CHNL Committee, CHFL Board, CHNL Life Members Sue O Keefe, Linda Thompson and Kaylene Trigg, Mel Taylor of Netball Victoria, Craig Black of Ballart Trophies and Gifts, one and all to the 2017 CHNL AND CHFL Grand Final. It has been my honour to continue as the President of the Central Highlands Netball League for this year It has been a year that has seen some unprecedented decisions made at the beginning of the season on both the netball and football sides of the fence, all made in an effort to ensure the viability long term of those clubs and in turn the league as a whole. We are all obviously facing new challenges in this regard and have much work ahead of us to ensure the viability of our clubs and the future of the CHNL and CHFL. However it is our commitment to ensure that the outcome of the league formation in the future is just, equitable, responsible and in the best interests of our clubs as a WHOLE... as we are all Netball and Football loving communities of All Age Groups. I wish to extend my congratulations to CHFL President Eddie Commelli, Vice President Doug Horan, CHFL Secretary Diane Ryan and the CHFL board on their management of the CHFL and the success of the 2017 season with the challenges that have been put before you. We also appreciate the communication and co-operation our two leagues continue to uphold and strengthen, enabling us to efficiently and effectively run our leagues side by side, a position we look forward to enhancing in the years to come. To this end we would like to extend our thanks to Craig Black of Ballarat Trophies and Gifts for his support and delivery of all of our medals and trophies for season To Haymes Paint our 2017 Interleague sponsors, we are truly greatful for your support and we look forward to an ongoing relationship in the years to come. Thankyou. Also to the Elliott family of Rumerz Tavern, Thankyou for your sponsorship of our meetings throughout the year. To our partners in Training and Education of Umpires and Interleague Training facilities we wish to thank the Wendouree Netball Association and Ballarat Netball Association as well as Netball Victoria. To Mel Taylor, Netball Victoria Western Region Manager and now very good friend of the CHNL we wish to thankyou for all of your unwavering support of us as a committee and of our league. Interleague Season. Season 2017 saw us field just shy of a full contingent of teams across the league, however I think a true testament to our success is that we this year had an increase of registered players, now with 1506 players registered across the board and our 13&UnderB section is now the biggest it has ever been. Although we all face the challenge of fielding sides when the competition for acquiring people to play sport is greater than ever, I think that the fact the Central Highlands Netball League competition continues to grow is a great indicator that we are continuing to do something right. To that end I wish to congratulate every club on the hard work you all put in to keep your clubs running with an ever decreasing pool of available sponsorship dollars, which attests to the enormous number of hours that you all as volunteers are putting in. To every Coach, Team Manager, Primary Carer, Trainer, Committee Member, Gate and Grounds Keepers, Club Delegates, Canteen Managers and assistants, Supporters and every other person it takes to run our clubs please let me say a heartfelt Well Done. Club success across all facets and its continued growth rests squarely on every volunteers shoulders and is a nod to the value of our league Community Based, working together with all football and netball played from Junior to Senior on one ground and on one day. We are unique and We are proud. On a personal level I wish to extend my gratitude and respect to the other members of the official committee of the CHNL this year. Anne Smith Secretary, Shelley Lockhart and Talia Slater Recording and Assistant Secretaries, Mel Conroy Treasurer (assisted by Kara Stephens whilst Mel is on maternity leave), Anne Wade General Operations Manager, Pam Davidson Umpire Coordinator and Jordan O Keefe Interleague Coordinator. These people have volunteered countless hours of their time to ensure the smooth operation of this netball league and I think they deserve your appreciation. I would like to extend our congratulations to all clubs who have the coveted position of playing in a Grand Final today. The competition throughout the finals series of 2017 has been fierce and has seen a number of upsets so today is not a sure thing for any team by any means. However, I am sure that every player, coach, team manager, official and supporter is entering the court today with the same focus. All of these teams have put in the hard work, the sweat and the tears it takes to make it to today and I wish everyone one of you the best of luck. Soak in the atmosphere, harness the energy the day gives you and leave nothing to chance play hard; play fair; play with everything you have and the result will be as it should. Win or lose you are all worthy of your spot so revel in it, don t let it overcome you and be humble in victory and hold your head high in defeat. Good Luck. CHNL Interleague 2017 was very successful where we once again fielded four sides, Senior, 17/U,15/U & 13/U teams who all garnered success over the course of out Interleague series. The Senior Interleague Team of 2017 proudly coached by Jordan O Keefe who was also awarded the 2017 Coach of The Season by a vote of his peers. This team produced a performance against the Southern FNL at Lyndhurst in May that was a sight to behold winning 71 goals to 39. MVP for the day was Jordyn Bibby with a total number of goals for the day of 61, an outstanding individual achievement. I wish to also thank all of the junior representative players and coaches Rebecca McCahon Eleisha Phelps, Katelyn Sutton and Steph Blyth for all of your CHNL President time and effort to ensure we completed another successful GRAND FINAL Saturday 9th September

The Bendigo Bank Central Highlands Football League ADMINISTRATION PO Box 1334 Ballarat Mail Centre Vic 3354 Diane Ryan - CHFL Secretary Mob: centralhighlandsfl@bigpond.com Eddy Comelli - President Mob: ATTENTION PATRONS Patrons are reminded that for their own safety and the viewing comfort of others, that they must remain outside the playing arena fence for the duration of each game. Sitting between the fence and boundary line is not permitted. Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Visit the Central Highlands Football League home page at for information, results and access to all CHFL club website pages 1. Encourage children to participate if they are interested. However, if a child is not willing do not force them. 2. Focus upon the child s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists the child in setting realistic goals related to their ability by reducing the emphasis on winning. 3. Teach your child that honest effort is as important a victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment. 4. Encourage your child always to play by the rules. 5. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing a competition. 6. Remember your child should be involved in football for their enjoyment, not yours. 7. Remember your child learns best by example. Applaud good play by both your team and by members of the opposing team. SPECTATOR BEHAVIOUR CODE 8. If you disagree with an official or umpire raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than questioning the official s judgement and honesty in public. Remember, most officials give their time and effort for your child s involvement. 9. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abus from junior sporting activities. 10. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches. They give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child and deserve your support. 11. Support your club officials in maintaining the highest standard of behaviour both on and off the field for the betterment of the league and your family. Offer your assistance to the team that your child is playing in so that every opportunity is being provided for the very best supervision and support. Your involvement will give both yourself and your child far more satisfaction. 12. Avoid use of derogatory language based on gender or race. 6 GRAND FINAL Saturday 9th September 2017

CLUB NOTES What a big weekend for The Beaufort Football Netball Club, with both our Seniors and Reserves football sides making it through to the Grand Final for the 2017 season. This is a feat that has not happened since 1965, our last year in the Lexton League before we joined the Ballarat League. The Reserves won the flag in 2015, after a 50-year wait, while the Seniors last tasted success in 1996, 21 years ago. CROW S CORNER Well done to both coaches, Rohan Brown (Seniors) and AJ Beer (Reserves), and to all their assistant coaches and helpers. A strong team surrounds both men and together they have sides playing committed football with all heading in the same direction. After the games today, win or lose, everyone is welcome back to Beaufort, to the Bendigo Bank Community Complex; hopefully, we will have plenty to celebrate. Just to make a big weekend of it, our Presentation Day will be held tomorrow. This is for all grades of football and netball - everyone is welcome. So today let s all get behind the CROWS, barrack hard and see if we can get two football sides over the line and celebrate a great achievement 52 years in the making!! BUNGAREE BULLETIN Our season comes to an end once again and what a great year its been out at the Bungadome! A season whereby all our senior sides were invigorated by youth and a big step up to senior footy and netball was made successfully, holding us in terrific stead for the 2018 season and beyond. Today marks the culmination of that year, and our B Grade, C Grade, U17 and U15 netballers will get the opportunity to represent the red and the blue on the biggest stage of all and aim to bring home the ultimate glory. Good luck girls, you ve done your club very proud win, lose or draw! Our B Grade girls will be the headline act as they take on a talented Springbank outfit that they were able to overcome in the Qualifying Finals by 10 goals. If the girls can replicate that performance they will be in with a terrific chance of securing their first flag since C Grade will aim for back to back premierships when they face Learmonth, the team they defeated in last years decider. These two sides have clearly been the standout in 2017, with the Dees winning their only encounter back in Round 11 by 8 goals. The Under 17 girls will contest their 10th grand final in a row, and aim for 8 on the bounce when they face an undefeated Hepburn side. Hepburn gave the girls a good touchup when they met way back in Round 3, but the girls can take a lot of confidence in their improvement since then and know that a good 4 quarter performance can take them towards that coveted flag. The Under 15 girls come up against Learmonth, a side that has saved it best netball for the pointy end of the season and handed the girls their first loss of the season in the qualifying final. This promises to be an absolute cracker to kick off the day, good luck girls! Marquee Night is being held again back at Bungaree tonight. Get your best dress up sorted and see out the season on what is always a bumper night. DJ and finger provided with drinks at bar prices. $20 entry. Thanks to all who helped out over the course of the season at Bungaree, your efforts are much appreciated. We look forward to wrapping up the season at next Friday night s McGuane Medal. Go Bunga! GRAND FINAL Saturday 9th September

CLUB NOTES BUNINYONG BULLETIN HEPBURN HAPPENINGS GRAND FINAL DAY!! What a time of year, and what a big day lies ahead for the Mighty Burra's with 5 teams competing in the big dance today at Mars stadium. Kicking off with the under 13 netball, the girls take on the undefeated Buninyong team who as we saw in the under 15 footy last week certainly can be beaten on the day if we're all at our best. The girls are a lot stronger than they were back in their home and away encounter earlier in the season too so should give a strong account today. Best of luck to Erin and the team. In the under 15 footy the Burra's are up and about after last weeks win against the previously unbeaten Buninyong and take on Springbank today who knocked us off a few weeks back. Our boys were not at their best health or form wise that day so if they bring their best today anything could happen! Congratulations to SuperCoach Popeye who has bought this team to the grand final on many occasions throughout his 20 odd year coaching stint and has bought so many great players and people through along the way. Let's get the job done today boys. This ones for you Pop!! In the under 17 netball we take on Bungaree. Our girls have had a great season so far, not dropping a game under coach Tracy Howard. As we all know grand finals are a different beast and our girls will have to be at their very best today to bring the chocolates back to Burraland. Good luck team, let's do this!!! In the under 18 footy, Siga's boys are primed for the challenge after marching into the decider after a big win over Beaufort last week. These boys have clearly been the best side in the competition this season but the job is not done yet. Anything can happen in the big one so we won't be getting too far ahead of ourselves. One more big effort today boys and ultimate glory is ours. Huge thanks to Siga on his coaching and mentoring of these boys, you are an excellent human mate and we all love you, and love your work at Burraland :) Good luck Burra's!! In the senior footy our boys fought hard all day in windy conditions at Learmonth last week to make it through to the big dance today. The win was set up in the second and third quarters, in particular the third when the opposition had the wind but were held goalless for the term by a miserly Burra defence. Better players last week were Reesy, Siga, Watto, Bundy, Brad & Hoges. Coxy kicked 3, Browny & Hoges 2 each and Clarkey 1. The boys stirring victory sets up a 1v2 grand final today against minor premiers Beaufort who must be favourites after their very impressive huge win over Springbank last week, but don't discount the Burra boys. We are a side well suited to the likes of this ground and should be confident going in to the game. We have plenty of premiership experience and are ready and up to the task. Also today Daniel Rees plays his 100th game for the club. Reesy has been a great servant over many years and if he hadn't moved to Horsham for 3 years for work would be probably pushing up around the 180 game mark. Today we will be looking to make him a three time premiership Burra legend! Have a great game mate and thanks for your great footy, friendship and leadership over the years. Good luck to Jocks and his charges today, what an amazing thing it would be to bring the cup home on the 150th anniversary of our clubs foundation in Let's go Burra boys! In closing we would like to take this opportunity to wish all teams competing today good luck. We would also like to thank our wonderful staff, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, supporters, families and most of all our players for the season that has been. Let's finish it off on the best and brightest note possible. Footnotes: Senior presentation night next Friday pm at the clubrooms. $25 pp. incl. Roast dinner. Junior presentation night Friday pm at Hepburn primary school. Parents please bring a plate. Go the MIGHTY BURRA'S!!!!!!! 8 GRAND FINAL Saturday 9th September 2017

CLUB NOTES LAKIE S LATEST Here we are for the last weekend of the year!. Last week we had six teams compete in prelim finals with all battling hard to be a part of the big day. It was a fairly successful weekend with three out of six moving on to the grand final. Commiserations to the reserves football, under 15 football and under 17 netball who all went down in hard fought games. They all had great seasons to make it that far. What a fantastic effort to have three sides representing the club and town! In the A grade netball we won through in a tight match against Bungaree. The girls were down early in the game and had to find another gear during the second quarter to get back in the match. The win proves the girls are made of the right stuff and can go all the way in what is sure to be another tight match. The C grade girls also won through on last Sunday and played some quality netball throughout to earn their spot. They will look to continue that form to get a win on today. The under 15 s girls will kick off our day today and look to get the whole club off to a great start. I m sure the blue and gold will be out in force today as we look to bring some silverware back to the club. Lets get out and support our girls and be as loud as we can!! 19 2017 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Grand Final Message There is nothing better in Victorian country football, than Grand Final action in September. After a grueling pre-season and tough home and away rounds, spring has arrived and with it comes a sense of optimism that today your team is on the cusp of making history on the most important day of the football calendar. Regardless of whether you re a player, coach, umpire or supporter with your hopes hinging on the premiership decider, or just an interested onlooker, Grand Final day is always an occasion to savour. I would like to wish all teams who are competing today the best of luck and I hope win, lose or draw, you continue to be involved in country football in 2018 and beyond. While I m certain there have been many highlights on the field this season, off it, much has been achieved. The introduction of the Community Club Sustainability Program s Player Payment Framework (PPF) was rolled out across Victoria for its inaugural season. Complementing the Player Points System introduced last year, the PPF will assist in helping narrow the gap over time between high and low spending clubs in order to assist with the rise of escalating player payments in community football. This year we have seen significant growth in the number of females participating in community football. Thank you for your support of the growth in female football. It has been great to see so many females being welcomed into their local community club and we look forward to seeing the continued growth of female football in the future. Representative football was once again a feature for many this season, with Victoria Country taking on the Victorian Amateur Football Association at Frankston Oval. The Energy Safe Under 19s Vic Country squad kept its Big V winning streak alive after narrowly defeating the VAFA by four points, while the WorkSafe AFL Vic Country squad, led by country football product and AFL great Danny Frawley, was unable to overcome their metro counterparts, going down by 82 points in the Brian Molony Cup. In addition, the Big V jumper was worn proudly by a host of country Victoria s top footballers, including the best Under 18 male and female talent in the 2017 NAB AFL and AFLW U18 Championships as well as Vic Country s best footballers with an intellectual disability in the 2017 AFL National Inclusion Carnival. Arguably one of the biggest highlights on the country football calendar this season was the 2017 WorkSafe Community Championships held in May. For the first time, the top ranked community football leagues went headto-head at the MCG as a curtain raise to the AFL Country Game between Geelong and Essendon. Season 2017 saw thirty metropolitan and country leagues take part in the carnival across the state, with the Geelong FL edging out Mornington Peninsula Nepean FL by 24-points to be crowned Victoria s number-one ranked community football competition.
