I enjoy seeing my students succeed both on and off the courts. I include a lot of ICT into my teaching and this also enables me to connect with my students. I am part of the #aussiephysed group and this group connects every day on a professional level to enhance our teaching and development. I am very privileged to be a part of the ACHPER family and to present at various ACHPER conferences, which I thoroughly enjoy doing. As educators we never stop learning, you need to take risks to succeed. If I had to give one advice to all teachers it would be networking. Networking is very powerful which benefits your learning, teaching and success. I love seeing students challenge themselves and learn something new, this for me is very rewarding as an educator. 2 This ebook is dedicated to the some of skills that we will be learning and mastering over the years. The videos that will be shown include a step by step instructions on how to practise your skills. I ll be also showing you on some videos on what NOT to do. This ebook is for all ages and abilities and you can scan the code over and over again to work on mastering your skills outside school hours. On each page there are connections for each skill and which sport that specific skill is used in. It is all about having a go and doing your personal best. Some of these skills will be easy and some skills will be challenging, but think of the ways on how you can master these movements over time. Skills included in the ebook We must remember all students are at different levels, we need to encourage our students to have a go and to achieve their personal best. This ebook allows students to work at their own pace and in their own time.

3 Skill 1 Kicking a round ball off a cone. Why do we need to practise this skill? This skill will help us to improve with soccer kick when striking for goal. Step by step: 1. Place the ball onto a cone. 2. Have a look on where you want to kick the ball. 3. Step forward onto your opposite leg. 4. Kicking leg goes back and forwards to strike the ball. 5. Your arms and legs follow through the kick. 6. Kick the ball like a ballerina. 7. Keep your eyes on the ball. 8. Give yourself a pat on the back. Connections to other sports: What can I do at home? 4 Skill 2 Catching an object with two hands. Why do we need to practise this skill? This skill will help us to improve with hand eye coordination which is very important in many sports. Step by step: 1. Use a tennis ball, bean bag or a pair of socks to practise your two handed catching skill. 2. Make sure your feet, hands and eyes are ready to move. 3. Throw the object into the air, keep your eyes on it, your hands are now like a soup bowl and your feet are moving towards the object. 4. Close your hands once the object is safely in your hands. 5. 5 Skill 3 Overarm throwing. Why do we need to practise this skill? This skill will help us to improve with your hand eye coordination which is very important in many sports. This will also improve your target throwing as well. Step by step: 1. Use a tennis ball, bean bag or a pair of socks to practise your two hand catch skill. 2. Make sure your feet, hands and eyes are ready to move. 3. Stand side on. 4. Step forward onto your opposite, with your non throwing arm pointing towards the target. 5. Keep your throwing hand ear height ready to throw. 6. Follow through your throw and collect the object. 7. Give yourself a pat on the back. Connections to sports: What can I do at home? 6 Skill 4 Underarm throwing. Why do we need to practise this skill? This skill will help us to improve with your hand eye coordination which is very important in many sports. This will also improve your target throwing as well. Step by step: 1. Use a tennis ball, bean bag or a pair of socks to practise your two hand catch skill. 2. Make sure your feet, hands and eyes are ready to move. 3. Stand front on. 4. Step forward onto your opposite leg, with your non throwing arm pointing towards the target 5. Throwing hand goes back, but don t go past your shoulder. 6. Follow through your throw and collect the object. 7. Give yourself a pat on the back. Connections to sports: What can I do at home? 7 Skill 5 Hopping. Why do we need to practise this skill? This skill will help us with to keep our balance. It will also build up our leg muscles. Step by step: Support leg bends on landing then straightens to push off Take off and land on the same foot Swing leg moves in rhythm with support leg Head and trunk are stable with eyes focused forward Arms bent and move to assist leg action Give yourself a pat on the back. 8 Skill 6 Ball Bouncing. Why do we need to practise this skill? This skill will help us with our hand eye coordination and controlling the ball during play. Step by step: Eyes focused on the ball Contact the ball with the fingers not the palms of hands Bounce the ball at about hip height Hips and knees slightly flexed during the bounce Ball Bounces in front of and to the side of the body Connections to sports: What can I do at home? 9 Challenges It s time to extend your skills and challenge yourself! Watch every challenge carefully, once you have mastered one challenge move onto the next challenge. Challenges make you a better learner, if it doesn t work the first time, you keep trying and trying until you get it right. Remember practise makes perfect and we don t want to rush our skills.
