The Football Development Team Quarter 2 July - September 2015 salfordcommunityleisure.co.uk/sport
Salford Community Leisure is run by and for the people of Salford. We are committed to enhancing the physical and cultural wellbeing of the community through the sport, library and cultural opportunities we offer across 40 venues, which attract millions of customer visits each year. Passionate about delivering value for money, we reinvest all our profits because we believe that leisure and culture should be at the heart of every community. By being active with us, you are supporting your local community Welcome to the 2 nd quarterly report for 2015/16 for Salford Community Leisure s Football Team. The aim of this quarterly report is to highlight the work that has taken place during July, August and September within the Football Team and demonstrate how Salford Community Leisure is performing. Key highlights include: Summer Business League had a thrilling finish with the final going to penalties! Over 300 people attended Just Play sessions 25 JP League matches took place JP Schools League had its biggest ever season with 22 school teams entering The first Salford Mini Soccer festival was delivered at Salford Sports Village Successful Walking Football sessions
JP League The JP League hosted and delivered the Salford University Give Sport A Go League again this year. This is part of a 3 year project which will see 5 a side played at the JP League. Salford Sports Village Mini Soccer Festival The first Mini Soccer Festival took place on Saturday 22 nd August. 16 teams took part in the football competition which was aimed at under 6 s and under 7 s. This was a fantastic day of football and was topped off with all the participants receiving medals and the team of the tournament being announced. Team managers comments included:- Tournament was enjoyable and I liked the fact you allowed for a team of the tournament allowed us to recognise players who tried hard etc I think the organisers did a great job. Overall it was a great day and enjoyable and we will definitely return next year. It was probably the best organised tournament we've been to. In total 160 people attended the competition. Just Play The Just Play programme, in partnership with Mars and the FA, provides players the opportunity to take part in an informal football session, dictated by the players. Currently the JP league offers a number of Just Play sessions: There were 303 attendances at the Just Play sessions this quarter. Soccertots/ Soccerstars The Soccertots and Soccerstars programmes are aimed at young players, providing a fun and enjoyable football experience, delivered by FA qualified coaches. Soccertots is an introduction to football coaching for 3 to 5 year olds in a warm, fun and friendly environment. The focus is on movement and agility alongside fun games. 3 weekly Soccertots sessions were delivered during quarter 2. The Soccertots sessions continued to grow in popularity. There was a good level of transition between the Tots and Stars sessions, with children having a pathway in football from 3 to 11 years Soccerstars is aimed at children and young people aged 5-7 years old and 8-10 years old. Coaching sessions consisted of skills and drills training and non competitive matches. The programme enables players to earn bronze, silver and gold stars as they progress through the course.
There were 4 Soccerstars sessions delivered each week across the city in quarter 2, with all sessions seeing good numbers attending. Pitch Allocations The grass playing pitches for both football and rugby are now under the management of SCL, the key headlines are: 32 football clubs were allocated pitches in Salford for the 2014 / 2015 season 176 teams used Salford pitches across 23 sites A regular meeting group was set up between SCL and the grounds maintenance team to discuss any issues which may arise during the football season and any impact of the change in season by the Eccles Sunday league. recently attended a walking football festival in Hull which they won! The scheme is aimed at the over 50 s, and with some changes to the times and days, there is opportunity to play during the daytime, evenings and also at weekends. SSV Business League The JP Summer Business League had its Semi Finals and Finals during quarter 2. The Semi Finals were closely contested with the underdogs in both semi finals causing the division 1 clubs problems. Eventually, Hurleys and Network Rail both won their matches to play in the final. The final was a cracking game with both teams playing some excellent football. It was 2 2 at the final whistle, which took the game into penalties! Network Rail won the penalty shoot out 5 3. Network Rail were delighted to win overall, after coming so close to winning the league last season. Walking Football The Walking football sessions at Eccles Leisure Centre and Swinton & Pendlebury Leisure Centre continue to grow in popularity. The sessions are delivered by staff from Lifeline project. The group from Eccles The 11 a side Business league is now the most popular football league at the Sports Village. 15 teams play on either Monday or Tuesday evening. The league includes teams from Co-op, Barclays bank, RBS and Network Rail. The league is affiliated to the
Manchester FA and uses qualified referees. The idea behind the league is to offer flexible formats of football to adults who are unable to commit to a regular adult team playing weekly. This quarter has seen 25 matches with over 500 participants. Schools League The new season of the JP Schools league got underway at Salford Sports Village with a record number of teams entering. The league now has two divisions of 11 teams, and will be running on an extra night to accommodate the additional teams. This means there are 220 young players aged 9 to 11 taking part each round. The kids and parents really enjoyed it and we look forward to the next meeting Matches are played each half term at Salford Sports Village, with the teams playing 6 a side, with qualified referees. The league has its own dedicated website, so the schools simply need to turn up and play their fixtures, making it as easy as possible for school to take part. There will be 4 rounds of fixtures, with a cup competition at the end of the season.
Forthcoming Events / Activities in Quarter University 11v11 league at SSV Return of the University 5 a side league on a Monday night.
