As a general point of departure, booking in and moving into residences takes place on Friday, 12 January 2018 between 14:00 and 18:00 and on Saturday 13 January 2018, between 06:00 and 12:00. Leer ken die gesigte, dit is 9 minder wat jy hoef te leer ken, 250 oor. Ons koshuislied is ook in die handleiding vervat, raak asseblief bekend met die woorde. Included in this manual there is a short welcoming letter from the House Parents, the Primarius and the First Year HC. Please read it. Attached is also a photo of each Laureus HC member, learn their names, it is 9 less that you will have to learn. Only 250 left. Contained in the manual is the Laureus House Anthem. Onthou dat slegs die room van die oes gekies word vir koshuisplek sowel as die feit dat hierdie die begin van jou toekoms is. Volgende jaar gaan jy jou huis verlaat, waar jy nuwe vriende en herinneringe gaan maak vir die res van jou lewe, terwyl jy gaan leer om n onafhanklike goed gevestigde man te word. Ek sien uit om jou op n persoonlike vlak te leer ken en om n kultuur binne jou te vestig van wat ek glo n goeie man is en dat die kultuur binne jou gekoester sal word veraltyd. Jy sal vind dat die ervaring by Laureus uniek, gebalanseerd en onvervangbaar is met baie geleenthede om jouself uit te duk. 6 LAUREUS VICENTIUS Laureus Manskoshuis is die jongste kampus koshuis en vier vanjaar sy 16de bestaansjaar (2017). Laureus is in 2001 gestig en het sy eerste eerstejaarsgroep van 25 bulletjies in 2002 ontvang. Ten spyte van sy nederige begin het Laureus oor die afgelope paar jaar aansienlik gegroei en is hy tans een van die grootste kampus koshuise wat jaarliks meer as 80 nuwe bulletjies ontvang. Al is Laureus nog jonk (volgens koshuis standaarde), spog hy met vele gevestigde tradisies en n nuwe koshuisgebou wat amptelik op 11 Februarie 2014 geopen is. Laureus of die Ryk van Laureus, soos wat dit onder die inwoners bekend staan is gebaseer op n antieke Romeinse tema, met die Afrika buffel as kenteken. Die ryk bestaan uit 7 provinsies (gange), elk met n bepaalde tema, eiesoortige leefwyse en unieke tradisies. Saam egter, vorm hierdie uiteenlopende provinsies een tuiste, die Huis van die Groot en Magtige Buffel die Ryk van Laureus. KOSHUISLIED HOSTEL ANTHEM Laureus Men's Residence is the youngest on campus and is celebrating it's 16th year of existence (2017). Laureus was established in 2001 that received a first group of first-years as a small total of 25 in Despite the humble beginning, Laureus has grown quite significantly over the years and is at this moment one of the largest campus residences that receives more than 80 first-years each year. Although Laureus is still young (according to residence standards), the residence brags with it's several established traditions and a new residence building that was officially opened on 11 February Laureus - or the empire of Laureus, as it is known to the residence - is based on an antique Roman theme, with the African Buffalo as the logo. The empire exists of 7 provinces (corridors), each with their own determined theme, own lifestyle and unique traditions. together though, each of these provinces come together to create one home, the house of the Big and Mighty Buffalo - the Empire of Laureus. 8 FINANSIES FINANCIAL ASPECTS Jaarliks is daar Eerstejaarspakkette wat aan eerstejaars beskikbaar gestel word. Die pakkette bestaan uit die koshuiskasgelde, die eerstejaarsklerasie pakket, eerstejaarsdinee kaartjie, asook JOOL ingangkaartjies. Annually there are First-year Packages that are available for first-years. The packages consists of the residence fund, the first-year s clothing package, and first-year s dine ticket, as well as RAG entry tickets. Wat is ʼn intrekkerspakket? n Intrekkerspakket behels n kombinasie van studente-aksies wat elke voornemende eerstejaarstudent kies om aan deel te neem. Nie een van hierdie aksies is verpligtend nie, wat beteken dat studente slegs betaal vir dit waarin hulle wil en gaan deelneem. Die onderskeie intrekkerspakkette maak dit ook vir studente moontlik om met slegs een betaling die betrokke kostes te dek. Wat is koshuiskas? Koshuiskas is n eenmalige bedrag wat deur voornemende koshuisinwoners betaal word wat hul deelname aan verskeie studente-aksies (sport, kunste, JOOL, instandhouding, opedag, ens.) deur die jaar wil verseker. Wat word by klerasie ingesluit? Let daarop dat elke koshuis sy unieke klerasiepakket spesifiseer. Wat is die doel van die oorpak (Ovie tydens JOOL)? Die oorpak moet vir veiligheidsredes (Beroepsveiligheid en gesondheid-wetgewing vereis dit aangesien daar gesweis word tydens die bou van die JOOL-vlotte) deur elke persoon wat die JOOL-plaas betree, gedra word. Oorpakke kan wel gekoop word sonder om JOOLkaartjies te koop of om aan JOOL deel te neem, aangesien die oorpakke ook vir ander geleenthede benut gaan word. Wat behels JOOL? The resident package includes a combination of student activities which each prospective first year can choose to participate in. None of these activities are compulsory which means that students only pay for what they will participate in. The different packages also make it possible for students to cover the costs with only one payment. What is residence fund? Residence fund is a once-off amount which is paid by prospective residents who want to ensure their participation in various student activities like sport, arts, RAG, maintenance, open day, etc. What is included in the clothing package? Take note that each residence has their own unique clothing package. What is the purpose of the overall during RAG? The overall is necessary for safety reasons (Workplace safety and health-legislation requires this due to the fact that people have to weld when building the RAG-float) and should be worn by every person that enters the RAG-farm. The overalls can be bought without the need to buy a RAG-ticket or to participate in RAG because the overalls are used on other occasions as well. What does RAG entail? RAG is not only fun and games; it is a big charity event. Your RAG ticket lets you participate in this unforgettable student experience and energetic parade and also gives you access to the RAG-farm. This is the place where the float parade ends and it is also the place where two rock-concerts takes place on the final two evenings of RAG-week. There is also a firework show on the Friday evening. What is First-year s formal? The first-year s formal is a fancy and exclusive event for first year students. This is an opportunity to get to know the other first-years better. 9 FINANSIES FINANCIAL ASPECTS KOSHUISKAS RESIDENCE FUND Koshuiskas beloop R 750 per persoon. Die geld word aangewend deur die huiskomitee, tesame met die huisvader, om die koshuis te bestuur. Dit is n verpligte betaling vir elke inwoner, insluitend senior-inwoners. The residence fee is R 750 per person. The money is used by the house committee, along with the residence father, to manage the residence. This is a mandatory fee for each resident, including senior residents. 10 OPTION 3: CASH & BANK CARD PAYMENT FINANSIES FINANCIAL ASPECTS Money is paid at the cashiers in building F1 in Lovers Lane on the day of arrival. A receipt will be given which has to be handed in at the residence and serves as the proof of payment. BETALINGSOPSIES PAYMENT OPTIONS We advise you to not follow this procedure due to the fact that the queues are long and you need to ask the cashiers to print two receipts as you need to submit one at the residence and then you won t have your own proof of payment. OPTION 4: FEES ARE CHARGED TO THE STUDENT ACCOUNT OPTION 1 : EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer/ Internet banking) Proof of payment must be brought along on the day of arrival and handed in at the Financial House committee member of Laureus - André Thysse. This proof of payment must also be send via to the Financial house committee member (André Thysse) of Laureus: athysse13@gmail.com This form is signed at the residence on arrival and then the fees will be charged to the student account. All bursary holders (including NSFAS) should sign this form, unless otherwise stated by the bursary agreement. Banking details of the NWU: Name of account: NWU Diverse Bank: ABSA Account type: Check account Account nr.: Reference: Residence abbreviation_student number. The reference is extremely important to make sure the money is sent to the correct residences. See attached abbreviation for the reference. Laureus - Lau ELECTRONIC PAYMENTS CAN ALREADY BE MADE AND WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO MAKE THE PAYMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND GET IT DONE. OPTION 2: FEES ARE PAYABLE AT THE RESIDENCE ON ARRIVAL Money is paid at Laureus on the day of arrival. It may be paid in cash or check in the designated room at the residence. (Checks must be made out as follows: North-West University, it may not be made out to the residence. Namibian and foreign checks are not accepted.)
