1 2015 Long Island Summer Recreation Programs Our building is under construction! We will be located at the VFW Hall, the Long Island School, and other off-site locations! Please make a note of the drop off location for each program.

3 Programs for Kids ADVENTURE CLUB/NATURE CAMP Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30-2:30: $35/day (6 and up) 8:30-12:00 $20/day (6 and up) 12-2:30 $15/day (4 and up) led by Erica Papkee and Will Ferguson **Drop off will be at the VFW Hall or School, please note drop off in description. Drop off is in the same location for morning drop off and noon drop off. Pick up is at the same location as drop off. **If you need aftercare, please let the instructors know to make special arrangements at an additional fee.

4 Camp will consist of island exploration and play in the morning and crafts and activities after lunch (at 12:00). Thursdays, we will have Nature Camp in the morning, (this part of camp will get kids out to explore different island ecosystems and creatures through games and interactive activities. Great for nature-lovers and budding plant/animal enthusiasts!) and beach play, or crafts, activities, and group games in the afternoon! **Please be aware that our schedule is subject to change. Bring your own lunch, snack provided. Please note that each day may involve walking to and from beaches and other island locations-- please pack appropriate footwear. Biking may also take place, stay tuned for more details from your instructors. Week 1 (7/7 and 7/9): Drop off at school Tuesday: Front beach in the morning, sea glass and shell frames in the afternoon Thursday: Nature camp in the morning, field games activities in the afternoon Week 2 ( 7/14 and 7/16): Drop off at VFW Tuesday: Wreck cove exploration in the morning, rock painting in the afternoon.

5 Thursday: Nature camp in the morning, playground play and bird feeder making in the afternoon Week 3 (7/21 and 7/23): Drop off at VFW Tuesday: Fowlers Beach play in the morning, beach lantern craft in the afternoon Thursday: Nature camp in the morning, Beach play and activities in the afternoon Week 4 (7/28 and 7/30): Drop off at school Tuesday: South Beach play in the morning, fairy houses/gnome homes in the afternoon Thursday: Nature Camp in the morning, mason jar aquarium in the afternoon Week 5 (8/4 and 8/6): Drop off at VFW Tuesday: Front Beach play in the morning, Field games and activities in the afternoon Thursday: Nature camp in the morning, necklace making in the afternoon Week 6 (8/11 and 8/13): Drop off at VFW Tuesday: Fowlers Beach play in the morning, Free Crafting in the afternoon Thursday: Nature Camp in the morning, Front Beach cookout, tie-dye and games in the afternoon (bring your own t-shirt)

Projects may include Garden Weavings, Driftwood Sculpture, Sand Drawing, Chalk Drawing, Landscape Painting We will learn about artists, and use that information to inspire us to make our own creations.

Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30-11 Ages 7 and up, $75 **Mandatory performance on August 7, more info to come regarding mandatory dress rehearsals, Tech Week etc. Archery Lead Instructor, Alanna Rich 4H youth archery on Long Island uses 4H curriculum for teaching basic archery skills and safety. We use re-curve bows. Youth determine eye dominance for instinctive shooting and find out whether they are to shoot left handed vs. right handed. They also learn about each piece of equipment and how to care for it. Once

8 everyone is ready, we begin shooting using the 11 steps to the ten ring which are included in the 4H Archery Instruction Guide. All instructors are certified through 4H. Lacrosse Clinic Ages 6 and up Learn the basic skills and strategies of lacrosse, and scrimmage with your friends! Bring you stick if you have one, Rec does have some equipment!

Challenger Sports Soccer Camp July 13-17th Ages 4-7,8:30-9:30 am, at the ball field, $105 for the week Ages :45-12:45, at the ball field $150 for the week **10 participants are needed to run this camp. ***We need a host family for the coaches! 12 ESPECIALLY FOR OUR TEENS! Paddleboard Workshop Instructor, Alanna Rich, and SoPoSUP Ages 11 and up July 23, 11 am IN SOUTH PORTLAND Pack a lunch and take the ferry to Portland. Alanna can transport 5 kids, cost is $30 to cover a 1 hour workshop with SoP SUP! Sewing Workshop Instructors Alanna Rich and Barbara Sullivan Kids will create a drawstring sail cloth bag out of recycled sails. Ages 11 and up $25 July 13th-17th 9:30-11:30 at the Evergreen Methodist Church

Maxine Harmon will lead a half hour workouts on the following evenings, AT THE VFW HALL July 13-16, 6:30-7 August 3-6, 6:30-7 August 10-13, 6:30-7 Suggested donation, $5-10 per class Walking Group, Saturday mornings 8 am, meet at the school *FREE*

Long Island Boat Races BBQ! August 15, 12-2 We need your help to make this event happen! Please contact Katie Norton if you can work the grill or hot dog cart!

We are looking for crews to work one hour shifts between 12 and 2, as well as helpers to set up and break down the grills. It s a true community event! Great live music while you grill!

18 SPECIAL NOTES FOR THIS SUMMER 1. There is no home office for Katie, our director. She is reachable by phone mornings, Monday-Thursday at , via at and will be at drop-off for Adventure Camp Tuesday and Thursdays. 2. Payments are due before your child can participate in classes! Checks and cash accepted. You can also mail your payment to Town Hall, as long as you specify the classes and child s name the payment is for. 3. There is always the work for trade option available: you work for Rec, you get $10 per hour towards programming. Contact Katie if you re interested. 4. Classes may be cancelled or added 5. Weekly updates will be ed via Chris MacDuffie, posted on Facebook, and advertised at the Island Stores and on Mariners Wharf.
