HANDBOOK CONTENT: CLUB POLICY ON GRADING (PROMOTING AND DEMOTING) CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT REQUIRMENTS OF COACHES TRAINING SCHEDULE COACHS CONTACTS

JUNIOR DIVISION POLICIES As at February 2011 CLUB POLICIES: Parents or Guardians are requested to collect players at the completion of training. Players are expected to attend TWO nights of training per week (if side is allocated) with the focus of ball skills and fitness. Players should also dress appropriately for football training i.e. football shorts and football boots/runners. If unable to attend training, players should contact their coach or team manager. Football boots are strictly prohibited in the social club. For safety reasons appropriate footwear must be worn at all times i.e. no bare feet or socks. Whilst in the social club, children remain under the supervision of their parents and are expected to behave in an appropriate manner at all times. At no time are balls to be played with in the social club. It is club policy that we recommend that private medical insurance be taken out by all parents. The club has insurance via the league s insurer JLT Sport but this insurance only covers non Medicare related expenses. The league s insurance has an excess and once a player returns to playing, any ongoing treatment or reoccurrence of the same injury is subject to a new claim and excess. Having private medical insurance in place will help and reduce out of pocket expenses. It is highly recommended that mouthguards be worn by all players. All sides from under 11 s upwards are graded.

All under age players must play in the correct age group. Any request to play at a higher level must be in writing from the parent/guardian submitted to the Junior Coordinator for Committee approval. Best and Fairest voting will be conducted on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis with one vote card to be allocated to the coach, and two voting cards to be rostered to all parents. This is for the Under 11 s upwards. The success of the club is parent involvement. A condition of your child playing with Hoppers Crossing Football Club is that all parents will assist in canteen and other duties (approximately two games per season.) Canteen duty will be conducted on a roster system where you will be required to assist at half time and after the game for 20 minutes approximately. Failure to assist in this way may result in your child s non selection the following week. Volunteers representing Hoppers Crossing Football Club must conduct themselves according to the Players, Parents, and Supporters & Officials Code of Conduct. Jumper Numbers: Where there is a clash of jumper numbers the second year player will retain the jumper number. In the situation where there are two second year players or two first year players, the player who has played the most games for the Hoppers Crossing Football Club has precedence over the number. When there are 2 players on equal amount of games for HCFC, then the coach or team manager will toss a coin with both players and parents present. Junior Finals. Where possible all junior sides participating in finals games are required to field the maximum number of players e.g. U11- U16 25 players. Any top up players should play a minimum of 1 quarter. Any exceptions to this rule will be at the discretion of the Junior admin & Club Committee.

It is WRFL policy that no child can play more than one game per round in the same age group. E.g. An U12 child may play 1 game as U12, and fill in for U13, however cannot play U12 on Fri night and U12 on Sunday. If a player is required to fill in for higher age group, approval is required from the Junior Coaches Coordinator or Junior Administrator. Each side to have a maximum of 25 players (WRFL rule is 25 players) refer later guidelines. There is a club heat policy that no training will commence if the temperature is 35c. All WRFL Rules and Regulations are to be adhered to. The WRFL has an evening up policy for all teams Under 14B down. Our policy is that if the opposing team is short and can supply jumpers that you do even up the sides and our players will play for the opposition. This is to help maximise ground time for our juniors. Goals that are kicked (even playing for the opposition) are to be recognised by HCFC and attributed to the players. In the spirit of the game, children playing for the opposition should play to their full potential and coaches are to encourage/reward this aspect. It is expected by the WRFL and HCFC that the team playing the last game of the day (and last side using the change rooms when playing away or home) ensure the change rooms are left clean. Most clubs will leave a broom in their change rooms which parents are expected to help sweep and pick up the rubbish from the floor. The Team Manager is to coordinate this task. Further to this policy, each team is responsible for picking up the rubbish from the floor after your game whether you play at home or away. This is just common courtesy and not leaving it to someone else. Team Managers to coordinate. The side that is the first game of the day is to provide two parents at least an hour before their game to help set up the rooms. Committee people will also be present.

COACHING POLICY GUIDELINES (Juniors Under 9 and Up to Under 12) The Hoppers Crossing Football Club policy relative to coaching in U9 and up to U12 junior teams is: 1. Improve the skill level of all players. Emphasis at U9 and up to U12 level should be to have all players capable of using both sides of their body. 2. Other skills such as tackling, shepherding, and marking should be under development. 3. Start the elementary understanding of position play. 4. Instil the fundamentals of team play and the importance of playing as a team. 5. At the younger levels, U9.U10, U11 and to a lesser degree U12, concentrate on skills rather than fitness. 6. Ensure all players are treated equally and are given equal opportunities. 7. During the home and away season, coaches shall endeavour to give all players equal game time. 8. Do not continually hide less capable players out of the action. 9. Players should be exposed to various positions (within reason in Under 11 and 12 i.e. ruck), not just their pet position. When a team is winning by a large margin, boys must be rotated to ensure that ALL players are given equal opportunity. 10. Give praise when it is justified, encourage when it is not.

11. Do not belittle or yell out to players in front of their team mates. 12. Do not approach games with a win at all costs attitude. Your job is to educate. Do this properly and the wins will follow. They are a bonus. Premierships are the added bonuses. 13. Encourage team bonding amongst players and parents. 14. Players who receive the order off rule twice or more will receive an automatic 1 week Suspension from playing for their side by the HCFC regardless of any other penalty incurred. 15. Respect all umpires and teach the players to respect the umpires. Most umpires are usually no older than the players. 16. Use words and language they can understand. 17. Grading policy applies in Under 12 only. Ensure all players are treated equally and are given equal opportunities within the grading policy. 18. In the Under 11s our aim is to ensure each side is competitive in the division they play in. 19. VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT SWEAR 20. MOST IMPORTANT HAVE FUN

COACHING POLICY GUIDELINES (Juniors Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16) The Hoppers Crossing Football Club policy relative to coaching in U13 to U16 junior teams is: 1. Improve the skill level of all players. By U13-16 level, all players should be proficient on both sides. 2. Reinforce the fundamentals of team play and the importance of playing as a team. 3. Ensure all players are treated equally and are given equal opportunities within the grading policy which applies to boys in U13 to U During the home and away season, coaches shall endeavour to give all players equal game time. 5. Do not continually hide less capable players out of the action. 6. Players should be exposed to various positions (within reason), not just their favourite position. 7. Give praise when it is justified, encourage when it is not. 8. Respect all umpires and teach the players to respect the umpires. Most umpires are usually no older than the players.

9. Boys who receive the order off rule twice or more will receive an automatic 1 week suspension from playing for their side by the HCFC regardless of any other penalty incurred by the league. If there is any mitigating circumstances that the coach believes a week suspension is too harsh, details can be provided to the Junior Administrator/Coaches Coordinator who can accept any variation to this rule. 10. Do not make personal verbal attacks on players, either in private or in public. (Be aware of parents & spectators close by). 11. Encourage team bonding amongst players and parents. 12. The rotation of players between different divisions, within U13 s to U16 s, will occur at the discretion and agreement of the relevant coordinator and coaches. Player development and team balance will be taken into account in team selection. 13 VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT SWEAR 14 MOST IMPORTANT HAVE FUN

COACHING REQUIREMENTS As a coach of this club, the coach will be required to submit: Working with children check (which will required by law June 30th 2009) A dot point plan of what coach wants to achieve in the coming season (The reason for this to allow the club to assess the coach in his/her mid year and end of year review). Please note, you will be required to perform the following: Compulsory attendance at coach s meetings, 2 or 3 coaching info/training nights this may be held at different venues Promotion of players to the next level they can play. Players to train with new side for minimum of 2 training sessions. Players to be in the starting 18 and given fair game time, as they have been selected because they are good enough. Players to be given 2 games straight so they get used to the pace of the next level, and have an opportunity to show their skills. Grading will be left up to coach and panel to discuss. Examples of grading: As example there is 3 under 14 sides at the start of the year all coaches are to meet up as a coaching panel together with the Junior coaching Co-ordinator to discuss sides and kids. This gives the coaches the opportunity to have a good look at all players and review their lists. We would envisage that during pre season some kids will develop and some may not come on as much as others. During the year coaches will have to meet up to discuss kids going up a grade or down a grade. To try and maximise the best for the kids. A simpler copy will be given to parents and kids on rego day to make this clear at the start of the year before paying their fees as this is a non negotiable as we are to make the most out of our kids and club and develop our players to full potential.
