1 GREEK WEEK 2017 Events & Rules

2 Greek Week Guidelines Alcohol is not permitted at any Any member in possession of alcohol at any event will be asked to leave and the member s chapter will be disqualified from that o Any inactive member or alumni in possession of alcohol at any event will be asked to leave and that member s chapter may be disqualified from that All participants must be active members of a fraternity or sorority at Angelo State University. All participants must be currently enrolled students at Angelo State University. The Multicultural & Student Activities Center will verify enrollment. All members of each chapter are expected to be tactful and respectful at all times. This includes language and actions at events as well as posts and comments on social media. Any members in violation of this rule may be asked to leave and the individual s chapter may be disqualified from participation in Greek Week events. Point System: Participation points (5 points) will be given for each event 1 st place for each event will receive 30 points 2 nd place for each event will receive 20 points 3 rd place for each event will receive 10 points T-Shirt Sales o One point will be given per hour that a chapter works the table. o Each chapter may earn up to 4 points per day, 20 points total for the week. Your chapter can also receive attendance points at the following events: o Talent Show o Letter Painting o Greek Sing Sign in sheets will be provided and points will be awarded by percentage of members from each chapter in attendance: 10-25% of chapter 5 points 26-49% of chapter 10 points 50% or more of chapter 15 points Please carefully read rules of each event to determine when sign in will occur for each

3 Schedule of Events: Sunday, April 23: Rib Cook-Off 9am at Pavilion Washer Tournament 10am by Pavilion Volleyball Tournament 11am at courts by Pavilion Dessert Cook-Off 1pm at Pavilion Monday, April 24: Talent Show 6pm at Pavilion Tuesday, April 25: Letter Painting 5pm at Pavilion Flag Football Tournament 6pm at Campus Green Wednesday, April 26: Greek Sing 6pm a Pavilion Dodgeball Tournament 8:30pm at CHP Thursday, April 27: Bowling Tournament 7:30pm at Bowling Alley Friday, April 28: Field Day hosted by Club Sports 3:00pm at Campus Green T-Shirt Sales The Greek Community will sale ASU t-shirts to the ASU community to raise money for the 2017 Dance Marathon. T-Shirt Sales will be held in the lobby area outside of the Multicultural & Student Activities Center Monday, April 24 Friday, April 28 th from 10am-2pm. Each chapter may have one representative work the table at a time. One point will be given per hour that a chapter works the table. Each chapter may earn up to 4 points per day, 20 points total for the week.

4 Sunday, April 23 rd Rib Cook-Off: The Rib Cook-off will begin at 9am at the Pavilion. A Head Cook must check in with Greek Week Committee member by 8:30am. Only one team per chapter is allowed to participate In order for a team to place in the rib cook-off their chapter must also participate in the dessert competition. 1. A team may consist of one (1) Head Cook and as many assistants as the Head Cook deems necessary. a. The Head Cook should be the individual that checks the team in at the cook-off and turns the ribs in for judging. 2. Each team must provide their own grill/cooker that will be used exclusively by that team. Wood, charcoal, and smoker type barbeque grill are allowed. NO GAS OR ELECTRIC GRILLS. Any type of device that requires electricity cannot be used. 3. A 12 x 20 space will be assigned to each team. (We will try to accommodate more space if needed.) 4. Each team is responsible to provide ALL of their own supplies; including pop up tents, utensils, ingredients, etc. a. One table and 5 chairs will be provided per chapter. 5. All teams are expected to maintain their cook sites in an orderly and clean manner while utilizing good sanitary practices during the preparation, cooking, and judging process. 6. Ribs will be provided by Greek Week Council, and will be distributed at the Head Cook s meeting at 8:30am. 7. Cooking may begin immediately following the Head Cook s meeting. 8. Only the provided ribs are to be cooked during the competition. 9. Ribs must be cooked and seasoned on site within your team s assigned cooking space. 10. Safe food handling guidelines must be followed at all times. 11. Five hours will be given for the rib cook-off. When time runs out, no extra time will be allowed. Judging: 12. Ribs may be seasoned, sauced and cooked in a manner you feel will deliver a competitive product in the time allowed. 13. Each team will place 6 individually cut ribs in your turn-in box. Event staff will provide the turn-in box. No marking, bending tabs, or any identifying marks of any kind are permitted on or in the turn-in boxes or they will be disqualified. 14. No marking or sculpting of the meat or turn-in box will be tolerated. No garnish, side sauce containers or any other foreign objects such as foil, toothpicks or skewers are allowed in the turn-in box. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification. 15. All entries will be judged anonymously on a number of factors by a panel of judges to be announced the day of the competition.

5 Sunday, April 23 rd Washer Tournament: The Washer Tournament will begin at 10am at the Pavilion. Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 9:30am. Teams will consist of two players and one alternate. The alternate will only play if one of the two registered players is unable to play. This is a double elimination tournament. Only one team per chapter is allowed to participate 1. Players must make their tosses from behind a line that is one pace in front of the washer cup. 2. A player throws both of his washers on his turn, one at a time 3. Distance from the cup is generally determined by visual observation but may require a measurement. Scoring: 4. A washer inside the cup scores 5 points. 5. A washer not inside the cup, but closest to the cup, scores 1 point. 6. Washers completely outside the pit are ineligible for scoring. 7. Scoring is done after all contestants have thrown. Only one player can score in each round. 8. Should player #2 hit player #1's washer,, and nudge it closer to the cup than his own, player #1 thanks player #2 and benefits from the good fortune. 9. Should player #1 land a washer inside the cup and player #2 also land a washer inside the cup, player #2's throw negates the cupper and no points are awarded for the cupper. In this example, points would then be awarded based on the remaining washers and their distance from the cup. In the rare event that the two closest washers are equidistant from the cup, no points are awarded and the players throw again with the previous throwing order. 10. Should player #1 score two cuppers and player #2 caps only one of them, then 5 points would be awarded player # Play continues until a team reaches a score of 21 points. It is not necessary to score 21 points exactly in Washers. If a team exceeds 21 points, they are the winner.

6 Sunday, April 23 rd Volleyball Tournament: The Volleyball Tournament will begin at 11am by the Pavilion. Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 10:30am. This is a double elimination tournament. Only one team per chapter is allowed to participate 1. Only 6 (six) members on the court at a time. 2. All substitutes will be libero style; players can switch as they please, but can only switch after the point is finished. 3. If a player touches or pulls on the net the play will stop and a point will be awarded to the opposing team. 4. The ball can only be touched three times before crossing the net. Lifts allowed. 5. With each rotation there must be a new server, and every team member must serve once. Scoring: 6. Each match is best two out of three games. 7. To win a game a team must reach 25 points and win by 2, with a cap at The losing team must offer 5 members to officiate the next round. 9. Sigma Kappa, Lambda Chi Alpha and Pi Kappa Alpha will officiate the first round (chosen by random selection).

7 Sunday, April 23 rd Dessert Competition: The Dessert Competition will begin at 1pm at the Pavilion. Desserts should be turned in to the Greek Week committee member between 12pm and 1pm. o Desserts not turned in by 1pm will be disqualified and will forfeit all points for the Only one dessert per chapter is allowed to be submitted Desserts must be prepared by an active member of the fraternity/sorority. In order for a team to place in the dessert competition their chapter must also participate in the rib cook-off. 1. Desserts do not have to be baked/cooked on sight; they may be brought in on the day of the competition. 2. The desserts must be made from scratch (homemade). a. Desserts may include a cake, pie, cobbler, etc. Desserts should not be cookies, cupcakes, or brownies. 3. Desserts must be large enough to serve 6 portions for the panel of judges. Judging: 4. All entries will be judged anonymously on a number of factors by a panel of judges to be announced the day of the competition. 5. Each team will provide 6 servings. The turn-in box will be provided by event staff. No marking, bending tabs, or any identifying marks of any kind are permitted on or in the turn-in boxes or they will be disqualified.

8 Monday, April 24 th Talent Show: The Talent Show will begin at 6:30pm at the Pavilion. Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 6pm. Each chapter is allowed up to 3 teams with no more than 3 people per team. 1. Each talent show performance should last 3-5minutes. One (1) Point will be deducted for each minute the team is under 3 minutes or over 5 minutes. 2. If a chapter has more than one team, those teams will perform in a preliminary round and judges will decide which team from that chapter will advance to the finals. 3. If a chapter only has one team, the same team will participate in both the preliminary and final rounds. 4. If a team is using music, the music must be provided by a chapter representative on a device that is able to be connected to sound system via aux cord. 5. This chapter representative will be assigned to instruct the sound person during performance. Judging: 6. Only one team per chapter will advance to the finals. 7. A different set of judges will be used for the preliminary and final rounds. 8. Each judge will use the categories shown below to judge team performance. Judging will be on a ten (10) point scale with ten (10) being the highest and one (1) the lowest in the specified areas: a. Crowd enthusiasm - crowd reaction to the performance b. Creativity- creativity of talent performed c. Clarity- Words, sayings, and chants are clear and easily understood d. Showmanship- Overall manner of presenting talent to the audience

9 Tuesday, April 25 th Letter Painting Contest The Letter Painting Contest will begin at 5:00pm at the Pavilion. Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 4:30pm. 1. Each chapter will be provided with pre-cut letters. 2. Only paint provided by Greek Week Committee may be used. 3. Each team will be provided up to two hours to complete letter painting. 4. Inappropriate signs, words or drawings on the letters will not be tolerated. Any chapter who violates this rule will be immediately disqualified and may face further consequences. Judging: 5. There is no specific theme for the letter painting. 6. Letters will be judged on creativity and quality. 7. All entries will be judged anonymously on a number of factors by a panel of judges to be announced the day of the competition. Tuesday, April 25 th Flag Football: The Flag Football Tournament will begin at 6:00pm at Campus Green. Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 5:30pm. We will follow the same guidelines as the UREC intramural flag football team. Every chapter must offer one representative to be used as a referee. No representative will be allowed to officiate a game that includes their own chapter. Rules/Scoring: Please see attached document with UREC flag football rules and scoring details.

10 Wednesday, April 26 th Greek Sing Greek Sing will begin at 6:30pm at the Pavilion. Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 6:00pm. Each chapter is allowed one team. 1. Each organization will be allowed a maximum of five (5) minutes for their performance, which will include the introduction and exit. Three (3) points will be deducted for each minute the organization exceeds the time limit. 2. Stage dimensions 28ft deep by 16ft wide and sits 16in off the ground (stepping out of boundary during performance will result in a point deduction (1pt per person). This does not include entrance and exit. 3. Greek Sing teams must have a minimum of three (3) members and a maximum of twenty (20) members. Teams consisting of twenty (20) members may list two (2) alternates and teams with fewer than twenty (20) members may fill additional spaces with alternates. 4. Team members will not be allowed to use profanity, obscene gestures or demeaning lyrics during their performance. Any team that violates this rule will automatically be disqualified. 5. Teams will not be allowed to use props such as powder, glitter or any sort of material that could make the stage slick to others. 6. If a team is using music, the music must be provided by a chapter representative on a device that is able to be connected to sound system via aux cord. a. This chapter representative will be assigned to instruct the sound person during performance. Judging: 7. All entries will be judged on a number of factors by a panel of judges to be announced the day of the competition. 8. Each judge will use the categories shown below to judge team performance. 9. Judging will be on a ten (10) point scale with ten (10) being the highest and one (1) the lowest in the specified areas: a. Crowd enthusiasm - crowd reaction to the performance b. Incorporation of Greek Week theme - the incorporation of this year s 80's theme into performance c. Appearance - General appearance of team (dress, uniformity, etc.) and creativity of costumes d. Creativity - Performing new and innovative performance and utilizing a creative introduction and exit e. Clarity - Words, sayings, and chants are clear and easily understood f. Execution - Carries out precise synchronization of steps and choreography g. Showmanship - Overall manner of presenting routine to the audience

11 Wednesday, April 26 th Dodge Ball Tournament: Dodge Ball tournament will begin at 8:30pm at the CHP. Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 8:00pm. Each chapter is allowed one team. 1. There will be five total dodge balls 2. Each team will consist of 5 members, no subs 3. The timer will be set to 5 minutes 4. When a player is hit, they are out 5. If a player catches a ball thrown from the other team the player that threw the ball is out a. At that time the team that caught the ball is allowed to bring a player back in that previously got out 6. If time expires the team with the most players left wins 7. If the teams are equal there will be a sudden death. Sudden Death 8. 3on minute timer 10. If anyone on your team is hit you automatically lose.

12 Thursday, April 27 th Bowling Tournament Bowling tournament will begin at 7:30pm at the Stadium Lanes Bowling Alley. o 2105 Knickerbocker Rd. in the Stadium Park Shopping center Teams should check-in with the Greek Week Committee member by 7:00pm. Each chapter is allowed one team. 1. There will only be four individuals per team. 2. Each team will be provided their own bowling lane. 3. Greek Council will cover the cost of the four individuals on each team. 4. Other chapter members may attend this event and bowl in their own lanes. The cost per member to bowl is $5 paid by the individual bowling. 5. Bystanders are allowed to attend this Their cost is $3. 6. Bystanders watching the tournament may not consume alcohol during the 7. Chapter members, inactive members or alumni in attendance at the bowling alley that chose to consume alcohol may not be in the Bystanders area of the competition until the competition has ended. 8. The competition will end once all seven chapters have completed their tournament play and the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place teams have been announced. Scoring: 9. The bowling games will be tournament play. 10. Scoring will be done by computer. Friday, April 28 th Club Sports Field Day Club Sports Field Day will begin at 3:00pm at the Pavilion. Teams must check in with Club Sports and Greek Week Committee by 2:00pm. Only one team per chapter is allowed to participate per Each chapter may have an unlimited number of participations on their team, however only 10 members may patriciate at a time. Events and rules will be provided by Club Sports at a later date.
