1 1st Edition October 2015 Newsletter BLATCH SPORTS AMBASSADORS 2015/16 FOR #TEAMBLATCH SCORES AND UPDATES The role of a Sports Ambassador is completely voluntary and they give as much time as they possibly can, it is an extension to the Sports Leaders course done in years 9 and 10. The group of 15 Ambassadors selected this year are the first at Blatch and their role is to help promote Sport at Blatch and in the local community. Some of the things they will need to do are; assist with the planning and organisation of the very first Annual Blatch Sports Awards, train Young Sports Leaders and hopefully help them become the Ambassadors of the future, update notice boards, help the year 9 and 10 Sports Leaders organise Inter-form events at Blach, promote sports clubs and events in assemblies, help at open evenings, survey our students about Sport at Blatch, assist with Primary School Sport activities and help with Blatch after school clubs and put together a termly Sports newsletter, all this whilst maintaining their high standards in their own PE lessons. Year 9 Football Team Progress in National Cup. Year 8 Rugby Boys go to City Wide Tournament Year 7 Tag Rugby Winners Year 1o Girls Netball A Team, Brighton Year 11 Girls Netball Compete at Brighton Tournament Sports Ambassadors: Olivia Clark, Annie Bridges, Lauren Bishop, Matt Cordery, Kira Tarbutt, Emily Westgate, Cerys Salked Green, Lucy Sullivan-Alsop, Josh White, Harry Judd, Dean Wilks, Lucy Richardson, Dan Buttress, Annie Freeman, Alice Clasby.

2 An Introduction to the New Head of PE 6 years after starting at Blatchington Mill Mr Mowforth takes over as Head of PE. Below he opens up about his sporting life and why he became a teacher. Growing up with a brother who was better than him at most normal sports that they competed in, Mr Mowforth decided to change tack and do other things where he could excel. From a young age he started swimming and trained 4 to 5 times a week, between hours a week, working his way up to eventually competing at Nationals, and winning the 50m butterfly at the British College Competition at Loughborough University. Mr Mowforth also took up water polo, playing for Haywards Heath, Sussex and trialling for Southern England. When at Brighton University he took up hockey as he wanted to change from swimming and joined Eastbourne Hockey Club and later joining St Francis Hockey Club, where he is captain of the 1 st XI for the 5 th season. He also raced on the slopes for the university on skis and snowboard. His greatest achievement to date was qualifying for the British University Boarder cross semi-finals, only to crash out on the third corner! Having been sporty all his life Mr Mowforth decided to follow his passions and wanted a career in the sports industry. His PE teacher Mr Higginson at school was influential in his career path and is the main reason he is teaching today. At the age of 15 he knew that teaching PE was what he wanted to do and he never looked back. He is passionate about teaching and is relishing the challenge of his new post. Mr P Mowforth Interview conducted by Olivia Clark HOCKEY CLUB IS EVERY WEDNESDAY 3PM 4.30PM ON THE ALL-WEATHER PITCHES WITH EX-INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY COACH JOHN ROYCE, MS WHAPHAM & MR MOWFORTH
