With only three rounds in the Term 2 sporting season and two weeks of training remaining, all boys are asked to step up their efforts another notch to ensure Ashgrove finish off the season in our usual manner. The last three rounds against St Laurence s, St. Edmund s, and Villanova are shaping up as a great way to finish the season with many teams likely to be fighting it out for premierships. Last weekend St. Patrick s College hosted the majority of our teams in Chess, football and rugby. The Back to Shorncliffe day on Saturday was a great event and we commend SPC for their efforts in hosting our teams and creating a great atmosphere for both colleges to participate in sport. The level of support from the SPC students, staff and families was outstanding and with our annual old boys day against St. Laurence s this Saturday we aim to replicate this in true Ashgrove style. Last Friday afternoon our chess teams competed in a tough round against the defending aggregate champions St. Patrick s winning their share of the matches with three wins, two draws and two losses. Our boys still remain in a close battle for the aggregate title race with the remaining rounds set to determine who comes out on top. In rugby, we were successful in all but two aggregate matches with some very dominant results from several teams. Our 1st XV secured a hard-fought win with a second half that showed great resilience and character to keep them alive in the premiership race. The football round was a solid one for our teams with seven wins, one draw and four losses. Our 1st XI competed against one of the competition favourites and in a seesawing match with many opportunities created by both teams. They, unfortunately, conceded a goal in the final minute to finish down 2-1. The boys still remain in title contention in a very close competition and results over the final three rounds will be important. This weekend we have our opportunity to host the entire round of rugby and football against St Laurence s. With only a few teams playing away, due to their draw against Iona, we are hosting 72 games at our College and at Mott St, Enoggera this Saturday. 2 From the Head of Sport Team Photos Saturday Before Your Match This Saturday we are also taking yearbook photos for a lot of teams before their matches so it will be a busy time for our boys. Please check the schedules below carefully for the time and venue for your team photo. We have aimed to have photographers in close proximity to your field so please be on time and organised in correct playing uniform. SLC Round Old Boy s Day Every week we face opposition who lift their level of performance when they play Ashgrove but none more so than St Laurence s. We have been very successful this term in all codes of sport and this weekend will determine a lot of premierships and aggregate results so please make sure you do your very best for your team and college. For all Year 12 students your time to represent our college in football or rugby is coming to an end so I encourage you all to make the most of your last opportunities to wear the blue and gold.
