2 Welcome to Chinnor Rugby Club Welcome to Chinnor RFC from all of us associated with the club. The purpose of this booklet is to give you information to enable you to enjoy being a member whilst understanding how the club operates. Chinnor RFC was founded in 1963 by three enthusiasts for the game in the Bird in Hand public house in Chinnor. Hence the logo and the retention of the name, despite the fact that we have not played in Chinnor since Club members built the clubhouse that still stands on Towersey playing fields, and the club was based there until we moved to our current location in Chinnor RFC is a member s club, and each member is effectively an owner of it. Our activities are largely run by volunteers, and our existence is maintained through the financial support of our sponsors. It is managed via a Board that administers the playing of the game, looks after safeguarding issues, and spearheads the generation of revenue to enable this to happen. The club owns the freehold to the land and buildings. We are also an entertainment venue selling our hospitality services to local businesses, members and non-members in the community. This is an important revenue stream as it enables us to spend more on our playing and community activities. The club is one of Oxfordshire s largest youth organisations. Our work with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Sport England to earn the Club Mark standard is key to ensuring the club is both a safe and inclusive environment for our members from six years upwards. Our Youth Rugby is run by parents with the help of staff and coaching support from our Senior Rugby Group. The aim of the section is to introduce youngsters to the discipline and camaraderie that rugby engenders, and allow them to choose how they use these skills. We have many success stories about the club giving them something of real value. We hope that in the spirit of friendship, young players can gain an understanding that winning and losing are different sides of the same coin, and that you can learn from both. John Ashfield, President CRFC

4 Our Commitment to You Chinnor RFC is a family sports club with a commitment to the community it serves to provide a family friendly inclusive club where rugby players can be developed in an enjoyable and safe environment. The Club Coaching Philosophy To place the needs of the child first and encourage an atmosphere and environment where winning matches is neither the sole nor most important measure of success. There is an RFU player pathway, which covers Under 6s to Under 18s before the transition to adult rugby. This player progression introduces skills and competition in a structured way, and is underpinned by the core values of rugby. These are Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

5 Safeguarding Policy The CRFC Safeguarding Policy recognizes that the welfare and interests of children are paramount in all circumstances. It aims to ensure that regardless of age, gender, religion or beliefs, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or socio-economic background, all children: Have a positive and enjoyable experience of rugby at Chinnor RFC in a safe and child-centered environment. Please stay pitch-side during training sessions and fixtures rugby is a very physical game and injuries do occur. The younger players also often struggle with the cold and wet and sometimes need to stop early. Having a parent or guardian at the club is important and if you need to leave for any reason please pass responsibility to another parent pitch-side. Please note that no dogs are allowed at the club. Please park considerately in the club car park. AND enjoy our club. 14 Thank you to all of our Sponsors We are indebted to our generous sponsors. They all make a financial contribution to the club, and without their support the club would not be so successful. Sponsorship packages, including access to purchase international tickets, and pitch-side and programme advertising are available. Packages range from hundreds of pounds (Bronze level) to thousands of pounds (Silver and Gold levels) and beyond. There are also opportunities to sponsor playing kit for senior and youth teams. The club is also generously supported by members and sponsors who attend key fundraising events during the season. These include Oktoberfest (usually held in early October), St George s Day Lunch, Sportsman s Dinner and the now legendary Picnic Ball.
