1 July 2015 HOSTED IN KIND BY STEVENAGE HAS MADE HEADLINE NEWS AT SOME VERY HIGH PROFILE EVENTS! On Wednesday 10th June members of The Nobel School were invited to the House of Commons. Miss Foy, Mr Henson, Holly Grace and Alicia Fieldsend were invited to an event to celebrate the forthcoming Ashes series. This was a fantastic opportunity for members of the Nobel community to meet Tom Harrison, CEO for the England and Wales Cricket Board and Tracey Crouch, the new Minister for Sport. The audience included several members of the current England men's and women's cricket team including Alistair Cook, Joe Root, Tammy Beaumont and Stephen Finn. Nasser Hussain, ex England Captain introduced both Miss Foy and Holly Grace to the stage. They were asked to speak about the school's involvement in the Chance to Shine Cricket Programme. The Nobel School were the only secondary school in the country that were asked to attend this event. A huge thanks to all students at the school that have played their part in becoming a 'beacon school' for the Chance to Shine cricket programme. We have been recognised at the highest level and this is due to the students' commitment and dedication to playing, leading and volunteering. 8 Page 8 COMMUNITY CLUBS BEDWELL RANGERS UNDER 12 MEERKATS - HGFPL FAIRPLAY AWARD WINNERS Last season was a very challenging one for Bedwell Rangers Under 12 Meerkats as the squad was rebuilt following the departure of several players. Despite results often not going their way, they gave 100% and always tried to play with a smile on their face. Recently they were rewarded for their efforts when they picked up the Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership League Overall Fair play Award for the Competitive Sections (Under 12s to Under 18s) at the HGFPL AGM. There were 79 teams in the U12 to U18 divisions. For the Meerkats to come out top of the pile, after so many challenges, is a magnificent achievement. Bedwell Rangers would be keen to hear from any girls currently in school years 6, 7, and 8 interested in joining them. More information can be found on the club website or bedwellrangersfc@gmail.com INCLUSION Lonsdale School Lonsdale school did Stevenage proud when they performed at the Opening ceremony of the Herts School Summer Games held at Wodson Park, Ware on 25th June. The students performed their fantastic wheelchair dance to Cotton Eyed Joe and their enthusiasm was a joy to watch. The audience were spellbound and clapped along enthusiastically. Also, the energy of the student s carers was amazing as they joined in with the dancers. It was a great start to the Games. Well done Lonsdale! Lonsdale were selected by the Youth Sports Trust (YST) to become one of nine Wheelchair Sports Hubs last October. Sports Hub schools will work with National Sporting Governing bodies (NGB s) to become beacons of best practice in non-traditional school sports. The aim is to encourage not only Lonsdale students, who come from across Hertfordshire and local counties to maintain as active and healthy lifestyle as possible, but also to provide members of the local schools and community the same opportunities. In March 2015 many local schools to Stevenage, took part in the wheelchair dancing day at Marriotts. On Thursday 2nd July, Lonsdale celebrated the school becoming the County Wheelchair Hub Site with sporting activities for the students. This included Archery, Golf, Bikeability, Football, Tennis etc. SSFT staff, Trainee Apprentices and Students from JHN and Barclay went along to assist staff at the event. They all had a brilliant time! A successful day and year for all! WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THE STEVENAGE SPORTING FUTURES TEAM THIS YEAR.
