2 Introduction Hamilton Girls High School offers a wide range of sports and the opportunities are plentiful for those students that choose to represent the school in the sporting arena. All students are encouraged to participate in competitive and/or social sport. The aim of this booklet is to provide all students and their whanau with the relevant information to help with registration and payment. To complement this booklet students are expected to use student notices, the HGHS App and the HGHS website to ensure they meet registration and payment dates, are aware of information meetings and attend trials when applicable. They are also encouraged to visit the Sports Office in the school gymnasium if they require additional information or need help with any sporting issues. This is non-negotiable and a student may be removed from the field/court if this is not adhered to. The general sports uniform is available for purchase from the School Shop. This includes: Singlet Polo shirt Plain black shorts Football jersey Rugby jersey Netball dress Hockey dress School hoodies and warm-up tee shirts are also available for purchase. PLEASE NOTE: All uniforms and additional apparel must be ordered by 24 March. It will require a 50% non-refundable deposit and paid in full upon collection. Playing uniforms are provided to all Senior Premier teams for the playing season. If a uniform is issued to a player it is her responsibility to care for it and return it clean at the end of the season. If this uniform is lost or lent to others they are liable for replacement costs. Tournaments Teams from HGHS compete in various national and regional tournaments. If your daughter is in a team competing in one of these tournaments then there will be additional costs associated with this. This will be communicated with parents once tournament costs have been determined. 2
3 Sporting Achievements The sports office would like to be informed of any regional, national and/or international sporting achievements by your daughter. This allows us to recognise your daughter in the monthly newsletter, assemblies, website, etc. and keep a record of achievements for HGHS sports awards and sporting blues. It also helps with nominations for the Waikato Sports Awards. Please details to the Sports Office sport@hghs.school.nz Registration Process 1. The sports available in Terms 2 and 3 are detailed in this booklet. 2. Use the registration form on the last page of this booklet to select the sport(s) you wish to register for. Total the fees on this form. 3. Student and Parent/Caregiver must sign the bottom section of the registration form stating that they have read and agreed to the fees payment process and codes of conduct on pages 3 and 4 of this booklet. 4. Remove the registration form from this booklet and either: i. Return the registration form to the Finance Office with payment; or ii. Return the registration form to the Sports Office if payment is to be made via Flo2Cash (Refer to Sports Fees section below which details the methods for payment) *** REGISTRATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND HANDED IN BY 13 TH MARCH *** Sports Fees Payment Process Sport at HGHS is user pays and the policy with regard to registration is no pay, no play. Sport fees are set to cover costs such as association team registration fees, equipment costs, uniform, first aid, administration, and are based on the number of students per team. It is expected that the sport fees are paid during the registration period. Fees of $40 and below must be paid in full. For fees more than $40, the first $40 must be paid during the registration process with the balance being paid prior to the conclusion of the competition. Payment Methods Upon return of the sport registration form, the relevant fee(s) will be added to your Flo2cash account on the Parent Portal. You then pay this by logging into the Parent Portal and clicking the Fees With Flo2cash link. Note: please allow 3 or 4 days after the return of the registration form for the fee(s) to be added to your Flo2cash account. Alternative methods for payment via the Finance Office include: Cash Cheque Eftpos Credit Card Automatic Payment of balance of fees via Flo2cash Electronic Banking (Direct Credit) Account name: Hamilton Girls High School Account number: Particulars: [Your daughter s name or student id number] Reference: [Name of the Sport] *** SPORTS FEES MUST BE PAID BY 24 TH MARCH AS PER THE OPTIONS ABOVE *** 3
4 Sport Refund Policy A full refund will be made if the Sports Office cannot place a student into a team or a sport. Refund will not be made: If a student withdraws without notification to the Sports Office prior to being placed in a team If a student leaves school, is expelled or stood down during the season If a student is banned from a sport due to conduct or misbehaviour If a student withdraws due to over commitment once the season has started If a student gains employment during the season and is no longer able to play/commit If a student changes their mind and does not want to play anymore All refund requests will only be considered by a written application to the Director of Sports. All refunds will be credited to the student s school fees account. This may be used in the first instance to offset any other outstanding co-curricular or curriculum fees or costs. Players Code of Conduct Play hard, but within the rules of the game. Recognise and respect the abilities and disabilities of others both team mates and opponents. Accept the officials decision without gesture or argument. Represent your school with pride and privilege. Support the coaches and their requests of you. Show commitment to trainings and games. Notify the coach and/or manager in advance if you are unable to attend a game or training session for any reason. HGHS support FAIR PLAY at all levels of sport. This means that all players are committed, respectful and play with good spirit. Parents Code of Conduct Positively encourage and support the efforts of all players. Make an effort to understand the rules of the game. Refrain from any criticism or abuse directed at officials. Respect the outcome of all games, irrespective of the result. Recognise good play by both teams and never ridicule an individual player in either team. Ensure the use of any form of violence is actively discouraged. Attendance at At HGHS we have a selection policy that states that each student will have sufficient time for the selector to make a decision on their selections. To achieve this we need to have the students attending their appropriate trails and if they cannot, then they are to let us know in advance. We will then know to schedule more time on the field/court when they are able to attend. If a scheduled trial clashes with another commitment, please let the Director of Sports know in advance. 4
5 Winter Sports BADMINTON Badminton is played at HGHS each Thursday afterschool from 2.30pm 3.30pm. We also have teams playing in the Waikato Secondary School (WSS) competition which is played on Tuesday evenings. Playing days: Thursday at HGHS, pm Starts 30th March WSS Comp days varied start date tbc WSS competition playing days varied $18 + an additional $36 if playing in the WSS competition Polo shirt and black shorts for WSS competition BASKETBALL 5x5 HGHS offers Basketball for all levels from the premier player to the player just wanting to play with their friends. HGHS also sends the Premier Senior and Junior teams to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Basketball Regional and National championships. We also have a number of players representing Waikato in age group teams. Playing days: Tuesday or Friday Trainings: tbc $125 Premier teams $105 all other teams St Peters College Singlet and black shorts Senior: Tuesday 4 th April pm Junior: Thursday 6 th April pm FOOTBALL Football is one of the biggest sports at HGHS with the 1 st XI placing in the top 4 of the prestigious Division 1 NZ Secondary Schools National Tournament. Playing days: Saturday Trainings: Innes Common and HGHS: Tuesday pm Thursday pm $70 1 st XI $60 All other teams Varied Football jersey and black shorts Tuesday 21 st March, pm Thursday 23 rd March, pm GYMNASTICS HGHS have a gymnastics team that competes in the Waikato Secondary School (WSS) Championships and also the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Championships. Trainings: Thursday, starting 9 th March pm $70 Turn and Gymnastics Circle 5
6 HOCKEY After a great 2016 hockey season that saw HGHS Hockey 1 st XI win the Marie Fry Tournament, the 2017 season looks to be an exciting one for all involved in Hockey. HGHS have a number of players representing Waikato in various age group teams. Playing days: Varied Trainings: Mondays and Fridays am All players must wear shin pads and mouthguards $215 1 st XI and 2 nd XI $195 all other teams Gallagher Hockey Centre 1 st XI and 2 nd XI uniforms are provided All other teams have to purchase playing dresses 1 st XI and 2 nd XI: - Tuesday 7 th Friday 10 th March, am - Tuesday 14 th Friday 17 th March, am 3 rd XI 6 th XI: - Wednesday 22 nd March, pm INLINE HOCKEY Inline Hockey is a fun and exciting game for students of all years and abilities. HGHS has seen a growth in the number of students wanting to play over the last 2years. Playing days: Thursday Trainings: (Eastlink Skate Arena): Fridays pm Skates and safety gear are supplied for use Inline Hockey is played all year round (Terms 1 to 4). $59 per term Eastlink Skate Arena PE uniform and black shorts Term 3 trial date to be confirmed LACROSSE Lacrosse is a contact team sport played between two teams using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick called a crosse or lacrosse stick. Offensively, the objective of the game is to score by shooting the ball into an opponent s goal past the goalie, using the lacrosse stick to catch, cradle, and pass the ball to do so. Defensively, the objective is to keep the other team from scoring and to gain the ball through the use of stick checking and body contact or positioning. Playing days: Saturday Trainings: tbc $55 tbc Singlet and black shorts Tuesday 28 th March, pm Tuesday 4 th April, pm ROWING As the HGHS rowing program continues to grow more students are exposed to the great values and work ethic that are learnt through rowing and that remain with them well after they have finished rowing. 7 HGHS are looking for fit, adventurous students to join their Rowing Development Program. For further information contact Head Coach Raima Turner- Abrahams (Ph ) or is purchased (additional cost) No NETBALL Netball is the biggest sport at HGHS fielding over 28 teams across all grades. In 2016 HGHS fought their way back into the A Grade for the Upper North Island Secondary Schools Tournament for Playing days: Saturday, Minogue Netball Courts Trainings: tbc Note: it is advisable to bring along a suitable snack and fluids during netball trials. $130 Premier team $95 Premier reserve and 10A teams $80 All other teams Minogue Netball Courts Netball dress must be purchased Premier: - Thursday 23 rd February, pm - Tuesday 28 th February, pm Year 10: - Saturday 25 th March, pm - Tuesday 4 th April, pm Year 9: - Thursday 23 rd March, pm - Tuesday 28 th March, pm Years 11, 12, 13: - Thursday 6 th April, pm RUGBY 15s Rugby has a proud history at HGHS in the 15-aside game and HGHS is known as one of the top schools in New Zealand for Girls Rugby. Playing days: Wednesday, 4.00pm Trainings: (school field): tbc IMPORTANT: a mouthguard is compulsory. A player is not allowed to play if they are not wearing a mouthhguard. $60 Varied Rugby jersey, plain black rugby shorts, black socks, mouthguard, rugby boots Monday 20 th March, pm Wednesday 22 nd March, pm WATER POLO Water polo is a great summer water sport catering for students from years 9 to 13. Teams compete in the local WSS Competition weekly and the Senior A team attend NZSS Nationals.
