To: Club Managers From: Susan Bailey-Carman District 12 Tournament Coordinator Re: Oct Nov 2018 Silverpoint Sectional (STaC) Dates: October 29, 2018 Nov 4, 2018; Participating: all District 12 Sanction #: ST Hand Records: Yes DISTRICT CONDITIONS OF CONTEST Club Managers must pre-register on the ACBL website prior to conducting a STaC game. The ACBL website will only accept the ACBL number of the club manager. A. Types of Games Allowed 1. Stratified Open Pairs combined for overall awards (see masterpoint ranges below) 2. Stratified Swiss Teams awards are based only on the entry at each individual site. Teams are limited to four members. 3. Novice, 99er, 199er, & 299er games or any Intermediate/Novice game. 4. Invitational Games use the same limits as for open pairs & will be combined with other invitational games for overall ranking. B. Participating Club Rules 1. Any club within the area of participation may hold a STaC game in lieu of its regularly scheduled game. Game types may be held as in A above. 2. The ACBL General Convention Chart will be used. Conventions and systems not allowed by the General Convention Chart will not be allowed. 3. Open games are subject to the 5 table rule: only games of 10 pairs or more are combined in the main game ; smaller open games are combined into a separate sectionally rated game. 4. Limited masterpoint (MP) games will be scored and ranked alone unless a like limited MP game is held at other STAC sites. In that case, these games will be scored together for overall rankings and MP awards. 5. Non-playing directors are encouraged but not required for games with no more than one section of 17 tables or less. Non-playing directors are required in games larger than 17 tables or with two or more sections. 6. Hand records will be used for all sessions. You must download them from the ACBL s website. A director who pre-makes the boards from the hand records should not
participate in the play except in cases of hardship. The new district policy (passed on 10/17/15 and in effect starting in 2016) is that a director who has not pre-made the boards and their partner are eligible for overall awards. However, any director who plans in advance to play in the STAC should obtain the approval of the DIC in advance; this is required by the ACBL Conditions of Contest. 7. Each club must report its results to the DIC within 24 hours of the end of that game (12 hours for the final session of STAC week). If a game is not reported within the 24 hour time limit, it will be scored, ranked, and issued MPs as a sectionally rated side game and will not be included in the Overall Awards. Any game from the final session not reported within 12 hours will be returned to the club to be scored as a club game. 8. A club must post a recap sheet for inspection at the end of each session. 9. Morning Session's must start by 11:59 a.m Afternoon Session's from 12 p.m. to 4:59 p.m. Night Session's from 5 p.m. 10. ACBL Conditions of Contest for STaCs also apply. These can be downloaded from the District 12 web page, district12bridge.org STRAT LIMITS: NEW: Beginning with the 2014 fall STaC, the stratification will be based upon the average number of masterpoints of an entered pair. This is a new district condition of contest based on a motion passed by the district Board of Directors at their October 18, 2014 Board meeting. A: 2000+; B: ; C: Director in Charge (DIC): Alex Bealles Phone: (724) awbeallesstac@gmail.com District STaC Coordinator: Susan Bailey-Carman Phone: (269) SusanBC99@aol.com A check made out to ACBL District 12 for the per table sanction fee of $6.00 is to be sent within 24 hours of the conclusion of the tournament to: Susan Bailey-Carman 99 S Lake Doster Dr Plainwell, MI Please include your club s sanction number(s) on each check. CLUBS WHOSE PAYMENT IS NOT RECEIVED WITHIN A WEEK OF THE STAC'S END WILL RECEIVE A REMINDER FROM SUSAN. CLUBS WHOSE PAYMENTS IS NOT RECEIVED WITHIN A WEEK OF THE REMINDER NOTICE WILL BE INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NEXT DISTRICT 12 STAC.

STaC Boilerplate (Only read this if you are new to STaCs or really bored, but you may need to refer to it during the STaC, so keep it handy) Types of Games Allowed 1. Open Pairs combined for overall awards (see masterpoint strata limits above) 2. Swiss Teams Swiss Team overall awards are based only on the entry at each individual site. 3. Novice, 99er, 199er or 299er Games or any Intermediate, Novice or Limited Game, combined if possible. 4. Invitational Games use same strata limits as for open pairs, will be combined for overall ranking. The ACBL General Convention Chart will be used. Conventions and systems not allowed by the General Convention Chart will not be allowed. A club must post a copy of the recap for inspection at the end of each session. ACBLscore Instructions for setting up STaC games: Use Club Mode for STaCs. In defining the specific parameters of your game: Set up as usual until you get to event rating. Choose rating (9) - Sectional Tournaments at Clubs (STaC) or Progressive Sectional Choose option (1) Sectional Tournament at Clubs Number of strata one of the following choices (based on limits and stratification method shown above) the middle option (3 strata), if stratifying by higher player the bottom option (three strata average of both players), if stratifying by average Choose option (1) Championship rating, for all(!!) STaC games Chose number of played sessions (always 1 unless setting up a two-session Swiss Team game) Choose proper event restrictions (1 restriction for invitational games)
When setting up a gamefile you select invitational only if the game is restricted by other than masterpoints (members only, women only, etc.). Games that are open to any player with less than some upper masterpoint limit are reduced by the upper masterpoint limit only. Enter strat limits (for open or invitational games, see limits on page 1) After entering the limit for strat A, ALWAYS(!!) answer Y to Multi site (except for swiss teams) Enter tournament data, including full name of director. Here are some important guidelines to ensure that your STaC game runs smoothly and your players can see their final results as soon as possible: When sending in your results: Please send the correct file. Only.ACM (morning),.aca (afternoon) and.ace (evening) files will be accepted. The name of the file should match the date of the game, i.e. an evening game for Nov.1 would be ACE. Check the address again before hitting send. A file not received can t be processed. Please check your account in case there are any questions or problems with your game. If you do not hold a game that was registered, please let us know immediately so that we aren t waiting on your file before posting results. Don t wait until the last minute to download hand records or results. If you prepare ahead of time and have problems, we can solve them without causing any delay or dissatisfaction for your players. Setting up the game incorrectly. The instructions, including stratum limits, how the game should be stratified (by average or by higher player), sanction number, event codes, etc., are all in the Game Setup & Reporting Instructions. When you set up the game, any game, be sure you set it up as a Mutli-site event. Otherwise, your players will think they are getting tons of points they really aren t. Putting in the wrong name of the director in the game setup. When the director is setting the game up in ACBLscore, and sees a name that is not their own, they should change it. The odds that Mr. or Ms. Various is actually directing the game are very small, and no parent named their child Fred/Melissa/George. And, dead people don t direct games (at least not well). So, only one name please, preferably, the actual director s.
Make sure your ACBLscore database is up to date. When the STaC is over, send money promptly to the unit treasurer or wherever your instructions designate. It is very frustrating for the volunteer treasurer to have to beat up the clubs to get the money Clubs using BBO Robots to fill half tables during STaC games are required to pay STaC fees for the half table. For example, an 8.5 table game that uses robots to prevent a sit-out will pay STaC fees for a 9 table game. If you are having problems with your game or your internet, call and let us know. We can have the patience of Job if we know there is a problem and, believe it or not, we may actually be able to help solve it. ALWAYS PLAY YOUR NORMAL NUMBER OF BOARDS EXCEPT WHEN LIMITED BY THE NUMBER OF TABLES STARRED ABOVE. IF YOU DUPLICATE YOUR BOARDS AHEAD OF TIME, YOU CAN RUN ANY MOVEMENT YOU WISH, MITCHELL OR HOWELL. If you expect less than 5 tables you should make up your boards ahead of time so that you can play the optimum number of hands and opponents.
