Four specimens,zi UT(Zoological Institute, Faculty Science,University Tokyo) , one juvenile specimen, ZIUT 52419,collected at Ishigaki-jima,Okinawa Prefecture on 9 October,1968.Two uncatalogued specimens [denoted a(fig.1) b in present paper] collected at same station on 27 October,1971.All specimens were collected from a pool on sy bank formed in center Miyara River, about 500 m from mouth river.the water pool was perhaps slightly saline, pool, about 3 m to 5 m in width 40 cm in depth, was thought to have been separated from main flow river for a considerable time.the juvenile was probably born in pool.ziut specimen a was dissected stained with specito name) Rayong;Smith,1945:433,Bismarck to collected dunckeri Guinea,New Mohr Japanese burg,ambonia:fowler,1937:214,fig.192, not or belonging fecture,ca.24 20'N,124 10'E.These mens dunckeri Komochi-sayori(new New coastal fluvial been recorded from Hainan Isl. Description Measurements counts are given in Table 1.Or counts are :pectoral rays i+7+ii (left right in all specimens);pelvic rays i+ 5(left right in all specimens);caudal rays v+11+v(ziut 52415);predorsal scales 12 ` ;branchiostegal rays 10(ZIUT 52415);vertebrae 40(ZIUT 52415). External characters.in present specimens length triangular part upper jaw is 1.0 `1.1 in its width.the length lower jaw in stard length was l.9 `2.1 in male 2.3 `2.5 in female. Fishes this genus are known to have a pair long nasal barbels(weed,1933),which were confirmed on present specimens from Ishigaki-jima(Fig.2,A).The infraorbital canal is confined anterior to eye.the sensory canal pores(right side)are three on infraorbital canal, seven(including anterior nasal pore)on supraorbital canal, about 25 on preoperculo-mibular canal (Fig.2,B).The 6th anal st ray in male Z.dunckeri from Ishigaki-jima(80.0 mm in stard length)is thickened as intromittent organ, this ray is longer than or rays.its length is 16.3 mm, its maximum width is 2.0mm. The anal papilla male is pointed at tip it,but genital opening female (58.7mm in stard length)is located near pointed tip(fig.3).the anal papilla male is 1.3 as long as that female it is 1.5 as wide as that. Color. The body is light brown in life.after it was collected, species became dark grey all over, but changed to pale grey after preservation in formalin.on side body,a dark brown line runs from rear gillcover to middle caudal peduncle. The ventral part elongated lower jaw its vicinity are nearly black.the upper margin dorsal fin is dark, all or fins are nearly hyaline. The juvenile specimen(fig.6).ziut mm in stard length.the nasal barbel has not yet been developed.the specimen has a well-developed preanal finfold.the color in formalin is dark brown, on body from dorsal to middle side, Table 1.Measurements counts specimens dunckeri from Ishigaki-jima.

Fig.6.Anal rays, radials, haemal spines dunckeri.the distal radials are exposed by dislocating anal st rays. Male,80.0mm in stard length.afr, anal fin ray;dr,distal radial;hs,haemal spines;pr, proximal radial. re are six dark brown blotches. Osteological characters based on ZIUT specimen a.the dentary is five times longer than premaxillary.there are two or three rows small teeth along lower edge premaxillary, two or three rows conical very small teeth,on dentary just below teeth premaxillary. The sensory canal dentary(a part preoperculo-mibular canal)runs lengthwise close to upper edge(fig.4). As mentioned above, 6th anal st ray in adult male is thickened its shape from middle to distal part is fearlike.the distal end proximal radial which supports 6th anal st ray is also wider than ors.the distal radials on anal rays from first to 10th are well recognized by staining by alizarin, but those 11th,12th 13th are not stained with alizarin(fig.6). Notes.According to Mohr(1926a),in males amblyurus,z.kampeni,z.brevirostris,z.dispar Z.dunckeri, some dorsal st rays are elongated, but in Z.caudovittatus,Z.novaeguineae,Z.quadrimaculatus,Z.pappenheimi,Z.beauforti buffoni such a male character is not developed, each 3rd,4th 5th st rays dorsal fin in former group is 2-3 times longer than or rays, but in latter group difference in length rays is not so conspicuous.in adult specimens from Ishigaki-jima, 4th dorsal st ray is longer than ors. Z.dispar Z.brevirostris are close to Z. dunckeri in measurements counts, but y differ in following.the 4th dorsal ray adult male Z.dunckeri Z.brevirostris is enlarged elongated, but that Z.dispar is not, 6th anal ray(intromittent organ) Z.dunckeri is enlarged

5 Japan.J.Ichthyol.19(3) November 30,1972 thickened, but that Z.brevirostris is not enlarged.accordingly,in pattern adult male dorsal anal fin rays agree with Z.dunckeri in that specimens from Ishigaki j ima. Acknowledgments I would like to express my most sincere thanks to His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Akihito, for his kindness providing me every facility for study indicating important literature.thanks are also due to Drs.
