1 Rev. Brasll. Bioi., 30(2): Julho, GO Rlo de Janeiro, GB TIDS FROM PO(:OS DE CALDAS, STATE OF INAS GERAIS, BRAZIL ( Opiliones, Gonyleptidae) 1 HELIA E. M. SOARES Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas e Biol6gicas, Botucatu, Sao Paulo (With 10 text-figures) it, Through the courtesy of Dr. Johann. Becker, entomologist in the National Mu: seum at Rio de Janeiro, I have been able to ; study in the present paper a small lot of ; Opiliones collected in Pogos de Caldas, State : of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The town of Pogos i de Caldas is situated in a region of great ; radioactivity, and this is the reason why the present work was partially sponsored by the :.u. S. Atomic Energy Commission. The majority of the specimens reported. on are the results of the collecting efforts of Dr. Johann Becker. The collection I have at hand, consisting almost exclusively of Opiliones of the family, Gonyleptidae, though small, is an interesting one. Only one specimen of the female sex of the family Phalangodidae was sent, so I decided to study it on another opportunity, when more representative material is avail. able. As to the records of the species, I will refer only to the localities within Pogos de Caldas, avoiding to repeat frequently the town name. All examples, including the types, are deposited in the arachnological collection of the National Museum at Rio de Janeiro, 1 Received for publication October 15, Brazil. Some duplicates are dpoosited in H. Soares collection. First, se cond and fifth areas without median armature, third with a pair of tubercles, fourth with a very robust conical median apophysis in the male.. First area with a median line. First, second and third free tergites, femora of palpi and anal operculum without median armature. Tarsal segments: Basitarsus of first tarsus not enlarged. Type-species: Beckeresia beckeri sp. n. Beckeresia notwithstanding its rounded form and the presence of a strong forwards directed spine on the front margin of the cephalothorax, seems, according to the armature, to be more related to Berlaia MelloLeitao, 1940: 9, from which it differs by having the third free tergite unarmed and the fourth area with a very robust conical median apophysis. In Berlaia boj;h the third free tergit and the fourth area (in the male and in the female sex) have a median spine. Both Beckeresia and Berlaia have rounded bodies, but in this respect they differ in their shapes.
3 GONYLEPTIDS FROM POCOS DE CALDAS, MINAS GERAIS Beekeresia beckeri sp. n. (Figs. 1-5) ~ Length: 4,5 mm. Tarsal segments: Anterior margin of cephalothorax granulate, with a median elevation and three hair-tipped spines on each side near the angles. Cephalothorax with few minute granulations behind the eye tubercle. Eye tubercle granulate, with a high spine directed upwards and forwards. First area with a median line without median armature, with few small granulations in the median portion. Second area without median armature, with few small granulations in the median portion. Third area with two median tubercles, with a granulation close to each of these tubercles and with a short transverse row of granulations near the third groove. Fourth area smooth, with a very strong conical median apophysis slightly curved forwards and extendind throughout the length of the area. Fifth area and first and second free tergites unarmed, with a row of granulations larger than those of the first and second areas the median granulation of the fifth area a little larger than the others; the three most lateral granulations on each side of the first and second free tergits much larger than others; the third free tergite also unarmed, with a row of granulations and scattered minute granulations before this row. Lateral areas of the abdominal scute with two rows of granulations (those of the marginal row larger), with a strong spine (the tip of which is turned down) between the second and third area. Anal operculum with minute hair-tipped granulations. Free sternites with a row of hair-tipped granulations. Stigmatic area and coxae with small hair-tipped granules densely distributed. Palpi weak and short: femora unarmed, with two small ventral spines; tibiae with 3-3 and tarsi with 4-4 ventral spines. First legs granulate: femora nearly straight, with three prolateral median spines. Second legs granulate: femora nearly 213 straight, prolaterally with a small apical spine. Third legs: femora curved, granulate, retrolaterally with a row of ventral spines; patellae and tibiae granulate, the latter retrolaterally with a longitudinal row of ventral spines. Fourth legs: coxae with minute hairtipped granules, with an outer transverse apical apophysis, on the basis of which there is a strong blunt spine directed backwards; trochanteres longer than wide, with irregularly distributed hairs, with a small apical inner ventral spine, with an outer long strong apical apophysis, which is curved and bifid, carenate on each side, basally depressed, wider and with a tubercle; femora short, curved, granulate, dorsally with two large blunt geminate tubercles on the base and two large spines on the apex, ventrally with two other inner tubercles slightly smaller and resembling those of the base of the dorsal surface, with a strong median inner spine curved and directed downwards with apical inner spine, with a row of outer tubercles; patellae and tibiae granulate and tuberculate. General colour dark brown, the lateral margins of the abdominal scute, the fifth area, the spines of the eye tubercle and the granules of the tergites dull yellow. Legs dark piceous, trochanteres I-III dull yellow and IV redish brown, all femora dull yellow (those of the third pair dark on the apical portion). Chelicerae and palpi dull yellow, with an irregular dark reticulation. Male holotype: Morro Sao Domingos, February 30, 1964 (J. Becker). This species is dedicated to Dr. Johann Becker. Discocyrtus latus Mello-Leitao Discocyrtus latus Mello-Leitao, 1935: 14 (fig. 5), 36, 101; Soares & Soares, 1954: 251. Records - a) 4 ~ ~ and 1 ~ from Campo do Saco, August 1, 1964 (0. Leonci-

Becker); h) 5 ~ ~ and from Campo do Saco, December 4, 1966 (J. Becker). Eopachyloides g. n. Eye tubercle with a median spine directed upwards and forwards. First area with a median line (rarely without a median line). First, second and fifth areae without median armature, third with a pair of blunt apophyses in the male, unarmed in the female, fourth with a pair of broad, low and elongate tubercles in the male. Free tergites, femora of palpi and anal operculum unarmed. Tarsal segments: Distitarsus of first tarsus not erilarged. Type-species: Eopachyloides trochanteralis sp. n. This genus, according to the exhibited characters, appears to be very closely related to Eopachylus Mello-Leitao, 1931: 94, from which it differs: 1st - by the third area which instead of pair of spines has in the male two large blunt apophyses; 2nd - by the presence of two median broad, low and elongate tubercles in the fourth area in the male; 3rd -by the not enlarged distitarsus of first tarsus. The female could be easily taken by a Progyndes Roewer, 1916: 107, but in the latter the third area is unarmed even in the male. Eopachyloides trochanteralis sp. n. (Figs. 6-10) if. Length: 4,0 mm. Tarsal segments: Length: 4,3 mm. Tarsal segments: ~. Anterior margin of cephalothorax smooth, with a pair of tubercles and one spine on each side near the angles. Eye tubercle marginal, high, with a high spine directed upwards and forwards. Cephalothorax with rare minute piliferous granules on the hind portion (these granules are only visible when the material is slightly wet with alcohol). First area very long with a median longitudinal line that can be seen when the area is. slightly wet with alcohol. First, second and fifth areae unarmed, first and second with minute granules irregularly distributed. Palpi small: trochanteres with a low ventral piliferous tubercle; femora unarmed with two ventral piliferous granules (one basal another submedian); tibiae with 3-3 and tarsi with 3-4 ventral spines. First legs granulate: femora substraight and tibiae with a ventral outer row of tubercles. Second legs granulate. Third legs granulate, the femora and tibiae with two ventral rows of small spines (those of the tibiae stronger and larger). Fourth legs: coxae with minute hair-tipped-granulations irregularly distributed, - I..
