2 Coastline of 718 km and an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of 200 nautical miles; Contribution of fisheries to GDP according to FAO 4.8%; Contribution of fisheries to trade balance (12.5% of total exports), budget and food security (26 kg per capita), first in Africa, Tunisia (10.1 kg), Mauritania (10 kg) and Morocco (7.5 kg). Contribution of fisheries to employment (600,000 direct and indirect jobs)

3 Over 200 species of fish, shellfish and 260 species of algae; Coastal pelagic resources represent more than 70% of catches in the Senegalese EEZ, overexploitation for sardinella and recommendation to reduce the fishing effort; Overexploitation for Demersal resources,

4 The Government of Senegal has implemented a new policy for fisheries co-management with all stakeholders to: regenerate the resource rent, decently remunerate all actors cover food security needs more contribution to the national economy

5 The National Advisory Council for Marine Fisheries (CNPM). It provides planning, development of fisheries and marine culture (management plans for fisheries resource management, organization of processing and marketing). The Artisanal Fishing Local Councils (CLPA). The CLPA, as consultative bodies, contribute to local fisheries governance, sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources and development of marine fisheries sector.

6 1. Control and management of marine fishing capacity in line with the potential of allowable catches, 2. Control of access to fishery resources, 3. Establishment of fisheries management plans, 4. Promotion conservation of marine habitat and resource policy as part of an integrated coastal zone management, 5. strengthening and adapting fisheries research, 6. Optimization of monitoring means, and control of fisheries

7 Introduction of fishing licenses: established since 2005; Canoes Registration; Establishment of Local Councils of artisanal fishing (CLPA) Creating protected Fishing Areas (SPAs); Elaboration and implementation of resource management plans; Adjustment of fishing capacity; Observation of biological rest: set up since 1996

8 Implementation of participatory monitoring Development and validation of the national plan to fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) The implementation of an action plan for the safety of artisanal fishing; The provisions of the decree to oblige fishermen to have harbor life jacket aboard open boats

9 Weak of consultation and participation mechanisms of stakeholders; Excess of fishing capacity and overexploitation of key fisheries stocks; Weakness in monitoring, control and surveillance maritime fishing; Weak of control of post harvest activities of artisanal fishing.

10 Continued weakness in the regulation of access to fisheries resources; weaknesses in the control and regulation of activities located along the chain; the inadequacy of the legal and institutional framework for fisheries management; insufficient number of administrative staff responsible for overseeing the sub-sector, etc.

11 Revise Decree on artisanal fishing permits to limit the fishing effort and integrating a status fisherman; Maintaining the cessation of fishing authorizations to the pelagic trawlers; Establish a system of strict control and regular registration of artisanal canoes and fishing license; Set up an appropriate policy approval and implementation of the processing units of fishery products in line with the fishing potential. Engage a development and implementation of plan of coastal demersal and small pelagic fisheries plans; Encourage the creation of ZPP and AMP Encourage the implementation of sustainable fishing label in Senegal

12 A feasibility study into the ecolabeling of artisanal coastal fisheries in Senegal, conducted in conjunction with BlueYou (C. S. A. & Fisheries Switzerland) & ENDA Lobster and shrimps labelisation with MSC in process Fair Fish ( ) Friend of the sea

13 Deep Shrimps development plan (implementation underway); Octopus development plan (underway); Development plans for coastal shrimp and volute (Cymbium sp); Development plans projects for belt fish,, and sardinella, with labeling projects for lobsters, cicadas, and tongue sole; 5 Marine Protected areas
