No pssengers, lod, or fishing sets should lock the opertors view when operting the ot. Underwter hzrds. Reduce speed nd proceed with cution whenever nvigting in shllow wter. Tripping hzrds. To void trip hzrd, route ll cles nd wiring netly nd out of the wy. Report ccidents. Bot opertors re required y lw to file Boting Accident Report with their stte oting lw enforcement gency when their ot is involved in certin oting ccidents. 8 PRODUCT INSTALLATION, WIRING, AND BATTERY INFORMATION Instlling the Trolling Motor 1. Remove the side pnel screw from ech side of the deck mount. Gently pull the side pnels wy from the deck mount, tking cre not to dmge the locting ts, nd remove the side pnels from oth sides of the trolling motor Locting ts - Side pnel screw 2. If you re replcing n existing MotorGuide or competitive rnd trolling motor on your current ot, check if the existing mounting holes lign with the new deck mount efore drilling new holes. Ensure tht the mounting loction meets the requirements listed in Step If new holes re not required to mount the trolling motor, skip hed to Step Crefully select n pproprite re on the deck of the ot close to the centerline to instll the trolling motor. Ensure tht the forwrd mounting olts will not penetrte the hull. Hve n ssistnt hold the trolling motor in position while the mounting loction is eing selected. IMPORTANT: The mounting position must e tested in the stowed nd deployed positions efore drilling the mounting holes. IMPORTANT: Ensure tht the hed does not protrude eyond the em of the ot when in the stowed position.
9 PRODUCT INSTALLATION, WIRING, AND BATTERY INFORMATION IMPORTANT: A minimum clernce of 13 mm (0.5 in.) is required etween the motor column nd the ru ril on the ot when the trolling motor is deployed Plce the trolling motor onto the deck of the ot t the selected loction in the stowed position. Use the deck mounting rcket s templte nd mrk the loction of the mounting holes. IMPORTANT: Four mounting holes (two on ech side) re required to securely mount the trolling motor. There re seven mounting hole positions to choose from on ech side of the deck mounting rcket. Choose two hole positions on ech side tht work the est with your ot configurtion. IMPORTANT: Select mounting hole loctions s fr prt s prcticl on ech side of the deck mounting rcket for the most secure mounting. Mounting hole loctions sme on oth sides 6. Drill the mounting holes with 8 mm (5/16 in.) drill it. Remove ny deris IMPORTANT: To help prevent crcking on fierglss decks, use countersink it or lrger drill it to countersink the mounting holes. 7. Align the deck mounting rcket to the holes in the deck. On fierglss ots with no crpet where the motor is eing instlled, instll the ruer isoltors etween the ot deck nd the deck mounting rcket. Instll three stinless steel mounting olts through the mounting holes on one side of the deck mounting rcket. Instll wsher nd nylock nut onto ech olt, ut do not tighten them t this time.

Align the trolling motor with the mounting holes in the deck. Hold the mounting screws securely with 7/16 in. wrench while using wrench or socket to tighten the nylock nuts on oth sides of the deck mounting rcket from under the deck.

Instll the side pnel screw Locting ts - Side pnel screw Recommended Prctice nd Procedures IMPORTANT: Unplug the trolling motor fter ech use nd when chrging the ttery. Do not use the min engine ttery to power the trolling motor. Use dedicted trolling motor ttery or ttery nk. Ensure tht the tteries re enclosed nd secured within ttery ox to prevent ccidentl shorting of the ttery terminls. Route the trolling motor wires on the opposite side of the ot from other ot wiring. Ensure the positive nd negtive wires re ound to ech other. Connect ot ccessories directly to the min engine ttery. Do not chrge the trolling motor tteries while the trolling motor is in the deployed (down) position. Bttery Recommendtions Use 12 volt, deep cycle mrine tteries. The numer of tteries required vries ccording to the model of your trolling motor. Refer to Bttery Connection. As generl rule, deep cycle tteries with higher mp hour rting or reserve cpcity rting will provide longer run times nd etter performnce. Instll mnul reset circuit reker in line with the trolling motor positive leds within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the tteries.
12 PRODUCT INSTALLATION, WIRING, AND BATTERY INFORMATION Do not extend the included 10 guge ttery cles more thn 1.8 m (6 ft) for totl of 3 m (10 ft). If longer ttery cles re required, MotorGuide offers ccessory 8 mm² (8 guge) ttery cles. Use stinless steel nylock nuts to secure the ttery cles to their terminls. Using stinless steel wing nuts to secure the ttery cles cn cuse loose connections. Do not power ny depth sounders or fish finders from the trolling motor ttery. Connecting electronic equipment to the trolling motor tteries cn cuse electricl interference. Any depth sounders or fish finders must e powered from the engine strting or ccessory ttery. Do not disconnect the ttery cles while the trolling motor is operting, ecuse sprk usully occurs t the point where live circuit is roken. Alwys use cre to prevent reverse polriztion when connecting or disconnecting cle clmps on chrgers. Poor connections re common cuse of electricl rcs, which cuse explosions. 3. Do not reverse the polrity of ttery terminl to cle connections.

Connect the positive (+) trolling motor led to the positive (+) trolling motor ttery terminl.

Connect the positive (+) trolling motor led to the positive (+) terminl on trolling motor ttery B. 3. Connect jumper wire (reference gry) etween the negtive ( ) terminl on ttery B to the positive (+) terminl on ttery A. IMPORTANT: The jumper wire should e the sme wire guge s the negtive ( ) nd positive (+) power cles. 4. Connect the trolling motor negtive ( ) led to the negtive ( ) terminl on ttery A.

The trolling motor should e connected to its own dedicted ttery. Sensitive electronics, such s depth finders, must e connected to seprte ttery. Mrine engines should hve their own dedicted strting ttery. Activting the Hndheld Remote 1. If the trolling motor power cles re connected, disconnect the power cles from the trolling motor ttery, strting with the negtive ( ) led. 2. Deploy the motor, then connect the power cles to the ttery or plug in the power cle to ttery source. Within ten seconds of connecting the power cles, press nd hold the left nd right rrow uttons on the hndheld remote simultneously.

Connecting the Sonr Disply to the Trolling Motor NOTE: This procedure pplies only to models equipped with integrted sonr. This sonr disply connection procedure pplies to trolling motor models with internl sonr tht offer uilt in 200/83 khz sonr trnsducers comptile with Egle, Grmin, Humminird, Lowrnce, nd Vexilr rnd sonr displys.
17 PRODUCT INSTALLATION, WIRING, AND BATTERY INFORMATION The trolling motor is equipped with Lowrnce 7 pin plug. Adpters re ville to connect other rnds of sonr displys to the trolling motor. Mtch the cle connector to the sonr port on the ck of the sonr disply. Power up the unit to ensure tht the sonr cle is connected securely. - Hrness to nose cone sonr - Lowrnce 7 pin plug to sonr disply Trnsducer Adpter Cles Aville from MotorGuide Lowrnce 7 to 6 pin dpter Vexilr 3 pin dpter Grmin 6 pin dpter Humminird 7 pin dpter Reducing Sonr Trnsducer Interference The following items should e checked, in order, to help improve sonr performnce. Keep in mind, ll sonr testing should e done on the wter in stle conditions. 1. Ensure you hve seprte grounds/no common ground etween trolling motor ttery nk (12V, 24V, 36V) nd engine/ccessory ttery nk (12V). 2. Keep trolling motor power cles nd sonr/electronics cles s fr prt s possile on the ot. (Exmple: Trolling motor cles routed on the port side nd electronics cles routed on the strord side). 3. A multi nk chrger tht is connected to oth the trolling motor nk nd engine/ccessory ttery nk cn cuse interference through the common ground in the chrger. 4. Ensure tht none of your sonr cles re cut or dmged. Even internlly roken shielding cn cuse issues nd cn e identified y crefully inspecting the ruerized outer coting for crimps, ends, nd flttened res. Repir/replce s necessry. 5. Check for common externl sources of interference nd temporrily remove or disle these to test for improvements in sonr performnce. These include: 64685

Ferrite rings/chokes my hve some positive effect on sonr performnce. Ensure you hve the correct size for the guge wire you re instlling on. 7. If sonr performnce hs still not improved, check with MFD/Electronics mnufcturers or your ot deler to check for other ot wiring issues.

Keep wy from moving prts when stowing, deploying, or tilting the motor. STOWING THE TROLLING MOTOR 1. Ensure the propeller is not running. 2. Ensure there is sufficient clernce round the trolling motor efore rotting the motor into stowed position.
20 TROLLING MOTOR OPERATION 3. Press down on the foot relese lever with one hnd or foot. While pressing down on the foot relese lever, pull nd tilt the trolling motor towrds the mount. - Foot relese lever 64686
21 TROLLING MOTOR OPERATION 4. Rise the motor out of the wter nd rotte the trnsmission so the lower unit is ligned with the mount crdle. Orient the lower unit so the cle does not wrp round the trolling motor column. Slide the lower unit into the mount crdle until the lower unit is fully seted. The mount will lock the trolling motor in the stowed position. Slide the depth collr so it is tight ginst the steering trnsmission. Rotte the depth collr until it engges the steering trnsmission, then tighten the depth collr kno. c - Steering trnsmission - Depth collr c - Depth collr kno IMPORTANT: Trolling motor cn unintentionlly deploy if not fully secured. Ensure the depth collr is fully seted with trnsmission nd the depth collr kno is tight ny time the ot is underwy or trilered.

Loosen the depth collr kno, then slide the depth collr wy from the steering trnsmission. Tighten the depth collr kno y turning the kno clockwise. 2. Press down on the foot relese lever with one hnd or one foot. Firmly grsp the column nd slide the lower unit wy from the mount crdle. Ensure there is sufficient clernce round the re where the trolling motor will e deployed.
23 TROLLING MOTOR OPERATION 4. Tilt the motor out of the stowed position nd lower the trolling motor until the depth collr rests on top of the steering housing collr. Rotte the trolling motor so the depth collr locks into position on the steering housing collr. The motor will lock into the deployed position. Pull ck on the column to ensure tht it is securely locked into the deployed position. - Depth collr kno - Steering housing collr Adjusting the Motor Depth! CAUTION Avoid injury due to the sudden shifting of weight when deploying the motor or djusting the motor depth. When rising or lowering the motor, firmly grsp the motor column with one hnd efore loosening the depth collr kno. Adjust the depth of the motor to improve the trolling motor performnce in vrious wter depths.
24 TROLLING MOTOR OPERATION IMPORTANT: Do not use the curly cle s hndle when rising or lowering the motor. When djusting the motor depth, ensure tht the lower unit is fully sumerged minimum of 30 cm (12 in.) to void propeller ventiltion. Optiml depth of the lower unit will vry depending on the ot type, wter conditions, nd the underwter terrin. If you her the propeller ldes splshing ginst the wter surfce, lower the motor depth. 1. Ensure the propeller is not running efore djusting the depth of the motor. 2. Firmly grsp the column with one hnd nd turn the depth collr kno counterclockwise so the column moves freely. - Depth collr kno - Depth collr Rise or lower the column to the desired depth. Align the depth collr to the key slot on top of the trnsmission. Tighten the depth collr kno to secure the column.
25 TROLLING MOTOR OPERATION Hndheld Remote Opertion! WARNING Rotting propellers cn cuse serious injury or deth. Never strt or operte the motor out of wter. To operte the trolling motor using the hndheld remote, sync the foot pedl to the trolling motor receiver. Refer to Activting the Hndheld Remote in the Product Instlltion, Wiring, nd Bttery Informtion section of this mnul. - Increse speed - Propeller on/off c - Right turn d - Decrese speed e - Left turn c e d TURNING THE HANDHELD REMOTE ON OR OFF The hndheld remote is lwys on, nd is redy for use nytime tht the trolling motor is powered up nd in the deployed position. SLEEP MODE When the trolling motor is not in n ctive stte nd idle for more thn three minutes, it will utomticlly enter Sleep mode, low power stte, such s:. The propeller is not running.. The propeller is t zero speed. c. No GPS mode is ctive. The Sleep Mode stte is indicted y the power LED slowly fding on nd off.
26 The Sleep Mode stte cn strt when the trolling motor is in the stowed or deployed position. Wke the trolling motor from Sleep Mode y pressing ny utton on the FOB or wireless foot pedl (sold seprtely). The next utton pressed will ctivte the trolling motor nd perform the intended utton function. Once the motor is ctivted ll the functions will operte normlly. STEERING To turn left, press the left turn utton on the hndheld remote. To turn right, press the right turn utton on the hndheld remote. The ville steering rnge llows the trolling motor to turn eyond 360 for opertion in reverse. Tke cre not to stress the cles when rotting the trolling motor eyond 360. SPEED CONTROL TROLLING MOTOR OPERATION Press the propeller on/off utton once to strt the propeller, nd press the propeller on/off utton gin to stop the propeller. The trolling motor will emit single scending tone eep when the propeller is turned on nd single descending tone eep when the propeller is turned off. The system is equipped with 20 speed levels. Press nd relese the increse speed (+) utton to increse motor speed y one level. Press nd relese the decrese speed ( ) utton to reduce motor speed y one level. Holding the increse speed (+) or decrese speed ( ) will cuse the speed level to increse or decrese until the speed level limit is reched. Holding the increse speed (+) or decrese speed ( ) utton for 2.5 seconds will rmp up the speed level from 0% to 100%, or decrese from 100% to 0%, respectively. The trolling motor will emit two eeps when it reches the 100% or 0% speed level.
27 Trolling Motor Cre To keep your trolling motor in the est operting condition nd retin its dependility, your trolling motor must receive periodic inspections nd mintennce. Keep it mintined properly to ensure the sfety of you nd your pssengers.! WARNING Neglecting to inspect, mintin, or repir your trolling motor cn result in product dmge or serious injury or deth. Do not perform mintennce or service on your trolling motor if you re not fmilir with the correct service nd sfety procedures. Record ll mintennce performed nd sve mintennce work orders nd receipts. SELECTING REPLACEMENT PARTS Use only originl MotorGuide replcement prts. Inspection nd Mintennce Schedule BEFORE EACH USE Inspect for loose or corroded wiring connections. 29 MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE Storge Preprtion The mjor considertion in prepring your trolling motor for storge is to protect it from corrosion nd dmge cused y freezing of trpped wter. It is lso recommended tht tteries re disconnected prior to storge nd tht the tteries re stored indoors in dry loction during long term storge. The tteries should lso e removed from the hndheld remote nd wireless foot pedl for long term storge. Refer to the Inspection nd Mintennce Schedule nd complete the pproprite cre instructions to prepre your trolling motor for storge. Store the trolling motor in dry loction where it will not e ffected y tempertures elow 29 C ( 20 F). IMPORTANT: Trolling motors stored in tempertures elow 0 C (32 F) should e operted slowly for minimum of 15 minutes efore going ove 30% throttle. Bttery Inspection The ttery should e inspected t periodic intervls to ensure proper trolling motor opertion. IMPORTANT: Red the sfety nd mintennce instructions tht ccompny your ttery. 1. Ensure tht the ttery is secured to the vessel. 2. Ensure tht the ttery cle terminls re clen, tight, nd correctly instlled. For instlltion instructions, refer to Bttery Connection in the Product Instlltion, Wiring, nd Bttery Informtion section of this mnul. 3. Ensure tht the ttery is equipped with ttery ox to prevent ccidentl shorting of the ttery terminls. Corrosion Control Anode (Sltwter Models) The node helps protect the trolling motor ginst glvnic corrosion y scrificing its metl to e slowly eroded insted of the trolling motor metl components. The node requires periodic inspection, especilly in sltwter which will ccelerte the erosion. To mintin this corrosion protection, replce the node if it is more thn 50% eroded. Never pint or pply protective coting to the node s this will reduce effectiveness of the node.
30 MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE IMPORTANT: Do not pint the node or clen it with steel wool, sndpper, wire rushes, or other rsive mterils. While holding the propeller lde with one gloved hnd, use 9/16 in. wrench or rtchet to remove the propeller nut. Remove the propeller nut nd wsher (or node, for sltwter models). IMPORTANT: Remove the propeller nut with wrench or rtchet nd socket. Using nother tool my dmge the propeller nut or shft. If the propeller cnnot e removed esily, use ruer mllet to lightly tp the ck side of the opposite lde. If the propeller cnnot e removed, hve the propeller removed y n uthorized deler.
31 MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE NOTE: Replce the propeller pin if it is ent INSTALLING THE PROPELLER 1. Rotte the motor shft to insert the propeller pin horizontlly. - Propeller pin Instll the propeller onto the motor shft y engging the propeller onto the propeller pin. 3. Instll the wsher (nd node, for sltwter models) onto the propeller shft, then instll the propeller nut. Use wrench or socket nd rtchet to tighten the propeller nut until it is snug, then tighten the nut nother 1/4 turn.
