They further stated that only 1 in 10 fisheries are underused. Javier Campaigner warned the report is a caution to us all that the fishing industry cannot continue to scoop up all the world s fishes, or we cannot expect our children to eat.

Mr. Luis Planas Puchades, Spain s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food, and the Environment, celebrated the news, commenting, We have been good stewards of our fisheries for decades. We are proud that we will continue to provide healthy food to Spanish and other European families for centuries. Calculation: 2,045,000/2,225,000 = 92%

23 Global Tuna Production Skipjack and yellowfin continue to dominate tuna harvests (85% of catch) Fisheries from which we draw most tuna to eat are in excellent health (skipjack remains in green status and yellowfin has a few issues to address) Industry needs to think more creatively about how to translate complex science to the lay language for the average buyer or consumer ISSF remains the preeminent global and multi-stakeholder initiative to address the long term health of tuna stocks
