Public Relations Director, Tim Foote Raffle Master Robert Watson Hello fellow FCM's. Well, the year is coming to a close and there is still no major fishing options with our local catch. It looks like we can only pray for a better fishing season next year. I have put forth an assertive effort to provide the best raffle I can with money allocated, so I hope you all made an effort to win some nice fishing items this last year. If you did not win what you wanted, then maybe it s time to try harder next year. If you have any special requests for next year s raffle tables, please feel free to share your ideas with me or any of the board members. Remember, it is your club and we all want it to be fun and to raise some money to support the club and future raffles. In last month s raffle, I put out well over $2,000 worth of fishing items. We had a Quantum 30 wide two speed with a retail value of $589.00; a Daiwa Seagate 50H brand, new for 2012, retailed at $149.95; two Sabre rods retailed at $99.95; two Quantum rods retailed over $150.00; and one Okuma Catalina rod, retailed 4

5 over $ I also put out two boxes of irons with side wash hooks, two boxes of tuna clones, three boxes of plastics, Plano large tackle box, Ande line, Chuck Byron litho, salt away and more! At the next meeting, I will have more of the good stuff in the raffle and look forward to seeing all of you at the first meeting of the New Year. If you missed the last meeting, you should know that Fox was one of the big winners in the raffle; but, just remember, sometimes it does pay off to spend more than normal for raffle tickets. HAPPY NEW YEAR AND ROLL THE BARREL!!! Robert Watson Membership Director Denise Warren A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you. I am looking forward to the next year and what we will be doing as a club. We are not just a fishing club, but we really try to teach our young people that fishing is a great way to enjoy a healthy hobby that even your parents would approve of. I personally got involved with the San Diego Rod and Reel Club because being a single parent and raising a son, I needed to find something to fill Andrew's void in his heart when he lost his father. It takes a real family to raise a good and solid kid. We are part of the sum to make the whole. See you in the New Year at our January SDRRC meeting. Denice Warren Editor: Gary Mouritzen garyshomeloans@hotmail.com (619) I would like to report an Excellent day of fishing with the first Kid s Fishing Trip! This trip was made possible by the money we raised from the Big Fish Tournament, as well as help from Friends of Rollo. This trip hosted Saint Vincent de Paul elementary school. There was a good mixture of kids from Kindergarten to 7 th grade, for a total of 28 kids. Many of them had never been fishing before, so they were very excited when they brought that first fish over the rail. The trip was on the Sea Watch with Captain Kris Karpow. Kris and his crew were total gentleman and worked hard the whole time we were out. If fishing slowed down, Kris would make the move. He had a mission to get the kids hooked up, and every single kid caught fish some of record size! The day started off very cold, but warmed up nicely by noon. There was also some early morning swell that flattened out, so the 3 kids who got sea sick (not a bad ratio!), were actually able to recover and catch fish! The kids were excited to see a school of porpoise streaming around the boat Nature at its best! The rods and reels were in perfect working condition, with fresh line, weights and hooks. The fish assortment ranged from Mackeral to Ling Cod here are the fish counts: 3 Sand Bass, 2 California Scorpionfish, 6 Calicos, 7 Whitefish, 9 Sheephead, 61 Rockfish, 1 Ling Cod. One of the Sheephead weighed in at 12 pounds, and the Ling Cod weighed in at 10 pounds!! Not bad for fishing off of PL! I would like to thank Lou, Charles, Curt and Jim Morgan for helping out. We also had several Chaperones on board to help. The day ended with the kids feeding the birds and seals. Surely a trip they will never forget - thanks SDRRC!!! Get Bent! Gary Mouritzen 5
