Commercial licenses may be purchased only at a Marine Resources Division office. Application forms for commercial and recreational seafood licenses may be requested by contacting (251) or (251) A valid social security number plus date of birth or incorporation of a business is required for all license purchases. Live Bait Dealer licenses may be purchased only from the Dauphin Island office. (Prior to purchasing a live bait dealer license, the dealer s boat, truck and/or place of business must be inspected.) Non-Residents are charged the same fees as charged Alabama residents to fish in their state, but not less than twice the costs for said license that Alabama residents pay. 5

10 The Alabama Legislature passed into law Act which changed the law with regard to eligibility of persons wanting to purchase a commercial gill net license in 1995 and subsequent years. In order to qualify to purchase a license, the applicant must show that he: a) purchased a license in two of five years during the years 1989 to 1993 and provide proof in the form of original, unamended income tax returns that at least 50% of his income was derived from the capture and sale of seafood species (commercial fishing) or b) purchased a license in each of the years 1989 to 1993 and paid his applicable Alabama income taxes in each of the years 1989 to The Alabama Legislature passed into law Act which changed the law with regard to the eligibility of persons wanting to purchase recreational and/or commercial gill net licenses. During the 2009 license year, only individuals holding a gill net license on June 1, 2008 could renew their license. These licenses must be renewed annually or else the license will be permanently forfeited. Commercial licensees must also continue to meet the license qualifications established by Act In addition, commercial gill net licenses are no longer available to non-resident fishermen. 6
