GENERAL INFORMATION AND COMPONENT IDENTIFICATION Protecting People in the Wter WHILE YOU ARE TROLLING It is difficult for person in the wter to tke quick ction to void bot heding in their direction, even t slow speeds Alwys slow down nd exercise extreme cution ny time you re boting in n re where there might be people in the wter. WHILE THE BOAT IS STATIONARY! WARNING A spinning propeller, moving bot, or ny solid device ttched to the bot cn cuse serious injury or deth to swimmers. Stop the trolling motor immeditely whenever nyone in the wter is ner your bot. Unplug the trolling motor before llowing people to swim or be in the wter ner your bot. Pssenger Sfety Messge Whenever the bot is in motion, observe the loction of ll pssengers. A sudden reduction in bot speed, such s shrp chnge of bot direction, could throw them off the bot. Sfe Boting Suggestions In order to sfely enjoy the wterwys, fmilirize yourself with locl nd other governmentl boting regultions nd restrictions, nd consider the following suggestions. Use flottion devices. It is the lw to hve n pproved personl flottion device of suitble size for ech person bord nd hve it redily ccessible. Do not overlod your bot. Most bots re rted nd certified for mximum lod (weight) cpcities, refer to your bot cpcity plte. If in doubt, contct your deler or the bot's mnufcturer. Perform sfety checks nd required mintennce. Follow regulr schedule nd ensure ll repirs re mde properly. Never be under the influence of lcohol or drugs while boting (it is the lw). Alcohol or drug use impirs your judgment nd gretly reduces your bility to rect quickly. 6 eng

GENERAL INFORMATION AND COMPONENT IDENTIFICATION Pssenger bording. Stop the trolling motor whenever pssengers re bording or unloding. Be lert. The opertor of the bot is responsible by lw to mintin proper lookout by sight nd hering. The opertor must hve n unobstructed view prticulrly to the front. No pssengers, lod, or fishing sets should block the opertors view when operting the bot. Underwter hzrds. Reduce speed nd proceed with cution whenever nvigting in shllow wter. Tripping hzrds. To void trip hzrd, route ll cbles nd wiring netly nd out of the wy. Report ccidents. Bot opertors re required by lw to file Boting Accident Report with their stte boting lw enforcement gency when their bot is involved in certin boting ccidents. A boting ccident must be reported if 1) there is loss of life or probble loss of life, 2) there is personl injury requiring medicl tretment beyond first id, 3) there is dmge to bots or other property where the dmge vlue exceeds $ or 4) there is complete loss of the bot. 14 PRODUCT INSTALLATION, WIRING, AND BATTERY INFORMATION Instlling the Trolling Motor 1. Remove the side pnel screw from ech side of the deck mount. Gently pull the side pnels wy from the deck mount, tking cre not to dmge the locting tbs, nd remove the side pnels from both sides of the trolling motor. b Locting tbs b - Side pnel screw 2. If you re replcing n existing MotorGuide or competitive brnd trolling motor on your current bot, check if the existing mounting holes lign with the new deck mount before drilling new holes. Ensure tht the mounting loction meets the requirements listed in Step If new holes re not required to mount the trolling motor, skip hed to Step Crefully select n pproprite re on the deck of the bot close to the centerline to instll the trolling motor. Ensure tht the forwrd mounting bolts will not penetrte the hull. Hve n ssistnt hold the trolling motor in position while the mounting loction is being selected. IMPORTANT: The mounting position must be tested in the stowed nd deployed positions before drilling the mounting holes. IMPORTANT: Ensure tht the hed does not protrude beyond the bem of the bot when in the stowed position. 8 eng

PRODUCT INSTALLATION, WIRING, AND BATTERY INFORMATION IMPORTANT: A minimum clernce of 13 mm (0.5 in.) is required between the motor column nd the rub ril on the bot when the trolling motor is deployed Plce the trolling motor onto the deck of the bot t the selected loction in the stowed position. Use the deck mounting brcket s templte nd mrk the loction of the mounting holes. IMPORTANT: Four mounting holes (two on ech side) re required to securely mount the trolling motor. There re seven mounting hole positions to choose from on ech side of the deck mounting brcket. Choose two hole positions on ech side tht work the best with your bot configurtion. IMPORTANT: Select mounting hole loctions s fr prt s prcticl on ech side of the deck mounting brcket for the most secure mounting. Mounting hole loctions sme on both sides 6. Drill the mounting holes with 8 mm (5/16 in.) drill bit. Remove ny debris IMPORTANT: To help prevent crcking on fiberglss decks, use countersink bit or lrger drill bit to countersink the mounting holes. 7. Align the deck mounting brcket to the holes in the deck. On fiberglss bots with no crpet where the motor is being instlled, instll the rubber isoltors between the bot deck nd the deck mounting brcket. Instll three stinless steel mounting bolts through the mounting holes on one side of the deck mounting brcket. Instll wsher nd nylock nut onto ech bolt, but do not tighten them t this time. eng 9

Ensure tht the btteries re enclosed nd secured within bttery box to prevent ccidentl shorting of the bttery terminls. Route the trolling motor wires on the opposite side of the bot from other bot wiring. Ensure the positive nd negtive wires re bound to ech other. Connect bot ccessories directly to the min engine bttery. Do not chrge the trolling motor btteries while the trolling motor is in the deployed (down) position. Bttery Recommendtions Use 12 volt, deep cycle mrine btteries. The number of btteries required vries ccording to the model of your trolling motor. Refer to Bttery Connection. As generl rule, deep cycle btteries with higher mp hour rting or reserve cpcity rting will provide longer run times nd better performnce. Instll mnul reset circuit breker in line with the trolling motor positive leds within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the btteries. These cn be purchsed from your locl MotorGuide retiler or from eng 11

PRODUCT INSTALLATION, WIRING, AND BATTERY INFORMATION Do not extend the included 10 guge bttery cbles more thn 1.8 m (6 ft) for totl of 3 m (10 ft).
