Come to the Education Building along with a handheld GPS or Smartphone and learn about this great pasttime that will take you to beautiful places that you otherwise would not have discovered. After the class we will apply what you have learned in the campground. Snake Encounters - Visit the Education Building to learn all about the native snakes of Gulf State Park. Bring a camera and get your picture touching a beautiful snake. It is also feeding time and you can observe the feeding behavior of these amazing animals. Wildflowers of Gulf State Park: Gulf State Park is home to a large number of wildflowers. Come view this slide program that highlights those flowers that are present during each season. Come to the Education Building to learn about the wildflowers of Gulf State Park. Drop in Yoga Class at the Beach Pavilion. $10 drop in fee- Free to our overnight guests Fabulous Frogs: (60 min) Journey on a wonderful trip through the weird and wonderful world of frogs. Learn about their bizarre behavior, anatomy, appearance, and more. Through cutting-edge technology, you will get a glimpse into some of the most unusual life stories of frogs. Meet at the GSP Education Building for this program. Invasion of the Giant Python: Florida s Everglades National Park is one of the last great wildlife refuges in the U.S. But the park has become a dumping ground for tens of thousands of Burmese pythons. Pythons have moved into their new home with a vengeance, thriving in the protected wilderness and disrupting its delicate ecosystem. Follow scientists and snake hunters as they study the problem and try to find solutions to the growing crisis. Meet at the GSP Education Building for this program. Learn safety, Bugs and Insects: Learn new and exciting facts about some of the creepy crawlies that live in Gulf State Park. There is a $2 charge per vehicle to enter the campground. Free to all guest staying in the park. This presentation by the park naturalist will include details about duck habitat and behavior as well as the identifying plumage of Alabama s ducks. Meet at the Education Building for this program. As one of the most important natural agents of change, fire plays a vital role in maintaining certain ecosystems. Prescribed fire reintroduces the beneficial effects of fire into an ecosystem, producing the kinds of vegetation and landscapes we want, and reducing the hazard of catastrophic wildfire caused by excessive fuel buildup. Meet our Naturalist in the Education Building to learn the details of why and how prescribed burning is utilized in Gulf State Park. Along this paved ADA accissible path, learn about the unique plants and animals that make this sandy ecosystem their home. Approximately 3 miles. Meet at the Rosemary Dunes Trail on Beach Blvd. Animal Homes Location, Location, Location: (60 min) Finding a good base of operation is critical for successfully raising a family in the wild. Follow beavers, tortoises, and wood rats as they plan and locate their homes. Part 1 of a 3 part series. Meet at the GSP Education Building for this program. Animal Homes Animal Cities: (60 min) Animals congregate in huge colonies partly out of necessity and partly out of the security that numbers provide. But we are less comfortable around them, for fear of their potent spray. But what do we really know about these infamous black and white creatures? Meet at the GSP Education Building for this program. Leave it to Beavers: (60 min.) Discover the fascination story of the beavers of North America. Learn about their history, near extinction, and current comeback, as well as how scientists are recruiting these natural builders to revitalize many aquatic ecosystems.
