various ports of call. From the President s Desk Once again this is a very brief report because we have only just arrived back on Terra Firma from our cruise around Australia. We were fortunate enough to see many wonderful places and experienced the results of the wet at the Horizontal Waterfalls and King George Falls which were flowing with huge volumes of water. Fortunately we managed to dodge the Cyclone off Broome and only had one half day of rain when we were at the Our first trip away to Bjelke Petersen dam is fast approaching so can all of you who have booked get your monies in to Trevor either in person or by direct deposit. The next trip away is in May to Maroochydore which this year is midweek and we will be taking bookings for that directly. I understand that there has been quite a bit of rain around and will be quizzing everyone about what has been caught, and where, following the rain. Hopefully the crabs are back. When we cruised down past the Barwon Banks the other day there were many boats out fishing and the seas down past the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Island were flat so hopefully some of you managed to get out offshore when the weather was good. I have arranged with Southern Marine from Spinnaker, for one of them to come and give us a lecture on outboard maintenance at the conclusion of our April meeting, so all outboard owners please make a note of this. I am sure the ladies will enjoy a coffee downstairs whilst this is going on. Happy birthday to all those who are growing another year wiser in March. Oh, how quickly the years go by. Tight Lines Mike The safe return of our president and wife will allow us the opportunity to now finalise some outstanding events for the year and also to clarify cabin bookings at the Tweed. Thanks to the BBQ volunteers last weekend as another great feast was had by all and a novel idea with the drumsticks. Welcome to our new members and my phone is always on if you need to clarify any club queries. Thank you all for your support for my time as acting President

Weighmaster s Report February 2018 Well, here we are into the 2 nd month of 2018 and as usual in the first 2 months Hasn t the weather been pretty dodgy compared to the rest of the years weather predictions? No wonder during the month we had a few different types of Weigh-Ins in separate categories!! And now for the what we caught facts and details from February. Ladies Inshore 1 st (and only place) Tina Patterson with 83 points for her 9 fish weighed in for the month with a very mixed bag or two consisting of Bream, Moses Perch, Sweetlip, Parrot & Grunter. Heaviest Bag Tina Patterson with kg Mens Inshore We had 11 members who weighed in 57 fish for the month there were 20 Bream, 1 Cod, 4 Dart, 3 Sweetlip, 9 Flathead (of 3 varieties), 5 Grunter, a Morwong, 5 Moses Perch, 3 each of Snapper & Sole, 1 Trevally and only 2 Whiting (and a Partridge in a Pear Tree) just to see who reads it all LOL!!!! 1 st Place Trevor Plant with 146 Points 2 nd Place Richard Patterson with 103 Points 3 rd Place - Ron Winnett with 69 points Special Mention the new Weighmaster who finally weighed in 2 Flathead (with special thanks to FrankO!) And John CASEY with an 805 gram Bream! Heaviest Bag 1 st Place Trevor Plant with kg 2 nd Place Richard Patterson with 8.27 kg (up from last months 8.13kg) 3 rd Place Ron Winnett with kg (up from last months Kg) Special Mention to Max West with 2 Swallowtail Dart measuring 450 and 540 grams! Ladies Offshore 1 st (and only place winner) Sheila OOSTENBROEK who weighed in a very lonely bream Heaviest Bag Sheila OOSTENBROEK with her bream.783kgs for 7.65 points

Mens Offshore There was only 1 intrepid (stubborn) fisherman who ventured offshore (apparently dragging Sheila along on that one trip too!) and weighed in 1 solitary fish a very respectable Blue Maori Cod at 815 grams for points. No Special Mentions this month! Heaviest Bag No Special Mentions this month! Freshwater NIL WEIGH-INS! Heaviest Bag NIL WEIGH-INS! So, for my second Weighmasters Report it s still been a bit interesting, a lot confusing and a whole lot educational! We are currently discussing taking even more care with the traditional species! In 2018 already, I have had to update the Recorded Fish Species, with several new additions ; either first time caught or else first time recorded correctly under their Individual Species. Please feel free to put some pressure on the intrepid anglers who have braved the terrible February weather to catch so many, and give them a run for their money in March 2018! We d love to see more anglers actively weighing in!

A New Era for Bribie Pharmaceuticals Pharmacists, also known as chemists or druggists are healthcare professionals who practice in the field of health sciences focusing on safe and effective medication use. A pharmacist is a member of the health care team directly involved with patient care. All of us at one time or other will need to visit the local chemist shop or pharmacy, but can you imagine what it would be like if Bribie Island didn t have a local pharmacy. It was over thirty years ago when John and Margaret Hodges opened their first chemist shop on Bribie Island. Since that time their business has grown to four pharmacies; a Discount Drug Store in Banksia Beach, another Discount Drug Store on First Avenue, The Pharmacist Advice on Welsby Parade and the Priceline store in the main shopping centre. Margaret had been working as a fully qualified pharmacist for many years when John became the Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs from 7 th May 1982 until 11 th March 1983 when Malcolm Fraser was the Prime Minister of Australia, but John s association with the local area goes back a lot further back to when John was an Alderman for Redcliffe from and as Deputy Mayor during the period John was also the Member for Petrie from after which he and Margaret went into the pharmacy business. As time went by John and Margaret decided to offer John Hodges Jr. the Manager s position which he shared with Cindy Woolmer. During the past eighteen months John and Cindy have been extremely supportive of the Bribie Island RSL Social Fishing Club and have donated hundreds of dollars worth of products, gift baskets and hampers as prizes for our raffles. On the 5 th March 2018 all four stores were sold to the Star Pharmacy Group which has approximately fifty stores around Australia. The Bribie Island RSL Fishing Club would like to sincerely thank John and Margaret and John and Cindy for their continued and very personalised support.

Joke of the Month THE RETIRED DOCTOR An old physician, Doctor Gordon Geezer, became very bored in retirement and decided to re-open a medical clinic. He put a sign up outside that said: "Dr. Geezer's clinic. Get your treatment for $500 - if not cured, get back $1,000." Doctor Digger Young, who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000. So, he went to Dr. Geezer's clinic. Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me?" Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from Box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth." Dr. Young: 'Aaagh! -- This is Gasoline!" Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500." Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring to recover his money. Dr. Young: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything." Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from Box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth." Dr. Young: "Oh, no you don't -- that is Gasoline!" Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500." Dr. Young (after having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days. Dr. Young: "My eyesight has become weak --- I can hardly see anything!" Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so, "Here's your $1000 back" (giving him a $10 bill). Dr. Young: "But this is only $10!" Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500." Moral of story -- Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can outsmart an "old Geezer" Remember: Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to piss us off. Did you know? The photo competition is back up and running for the year so please send your photos in to Frank and vote each month. Easter dates are Good Friday 30 March to Easter Monday 2 April. The predictions for that period based on the sun, stars and lunar activity is for a high bite period. Good luck. Richard and Dianne Caldararo are vacationing at Norfolk Island. A half of Richard s suitcase contains lures, jigs, hooks and other pretty things for catching fish. To make room he sacrificed socks, jocks and dress trousers and shoes.

Those who Support Our Club The Bribie RSL Fishing Club provides a real service to the community by extending the hand of friendship not only to the fisher men and women with a common interest, but also to the many residents of Bribie Island and the surrounding area who would otherwise lead a lonely existence. Currently our club has approximately eighty members of whom only twenty to thirty are regular fisher people. Without the ability to raise the necessary funds, our club would not be able to exist, so through the generosity of the Bribie RSL Club, members of our club are able to raise the finances required by conducting meat tray raffles on a Thursday night from June until January of each year. In addition, the Bribie Island RSL Club supports us in very substantial and significant ways use of facilities at the Sports Club for our monthly presentation BBQ s, use of the ANZAC room for our monthly general meetings and very importantly, a $20 voucher each month for our member s draw. Many thanks Bribie Island RSL Club we really do appreciate your support. There are also occasions where we have the ability to raffle other prizes that have been kindly donated by our local businesses. The prizes that have been donated are actually great prizes that provide a real benefit to the people lucky enough to win them. Owners of Browns Mitre 10 on Bribie Island, Michael and Samantha Brown have very kindly agreed to support us by donating a $20 gift card each month to be used as a raffle prize at our monthly general meeting. In addition, they have offered a 5% discount on all fishing, marine and bait goods when members show their Bribie Island RSL Fishing Club member identification at time of purchase. Browns Mitre 10 is a Wilsons fishing tackle distributor. If members provide a Wilsons product number for the item they wish to purchase and it is not in store, Michael will order it for you. This is a great service. In addition, Michael has offered to provide better pricing for group buys or for certain high turnover items. Thank you, Browns Mitre 10 Bribie Island.

Steve Kelly from Mr Minute is a very keen fisherman who has supported the club for a number of years. Steve has generously donated numerous prizes including Leatherman tools and a number of Led Lenser LED flashlights/torches. Led Lenser is well known as one of the best names in quality LED torches and they also command a high price. Thank you Steve. A number of discount vouchers have been donated by MODE Hairdressing for the last few years. It is nice to have a prize that can be utilised by the ladies. Pacific Harbour Golf Club has donated quite a few gift vouchers for 18 holes of golf with a buggy for the last few years and have supported our club again for These prizes are greatly appreciated and are highly valued by the players. BRIBIE PASSAGE KIOSK & BOAT HIRE Kate and John McAuliffe have been sponsors of our club for many years and have donated many great prizes for our fishing competitions. Kate and John s support is ongoing and provide a valuable resource as our primary weigh in station.

Renee Monck has kindly offered to donate a thirty-dollar meal voucher to the Bribie Island RSL Social Fishing Club on a monthly basis. If you would like to experience one of the best meals on Bribie Island, Call Eats Bistro on (07) to book your table. Eats Bistro is located in the Solander Lake Bowls Club, 70 Sunderland Drive, Banksia Beach. Hypnotic Fashion has been supporting our club for a few years now, so if you are after ladies fashion for all ages please drop by. After ten years of being located in the Bribie Island Shopping Centre, Hypnotic Fashion decided to relocate to bigger premises on Benabrow Avenue. The new premises have been totally renovated and they have sourced out the latest fashion and accessories at great prices so have a look at the new look HYPNOTIC FASHION BOUTIQUE. The Priceline pharmacy has been part of the Bribie Island community for many years but did you know that the proprietors John and Cindy are also very keen on fishing. You won t see them out in the store but you can be sure that they will be looking after your needs behind the office door. Your Priceline pharmacist is there to assist you by giving you advice and talking through your health concerns. From our friendly staff to our trained cosmeticians, we aim to give you the best advice and recommendations, great prices and the latest products. Rodney Fleming, owner of The Coffee Club, is very supportive of our club and has donated vouchers for our use in our raffles. Most recently he gave generously for our Trophy Night. The Coffee Club not only has really beaut coffee, but also cakes and tantalizing tarts and tasty and delicious meals. Breakfast at The Coffee Club on Sunday mornings with the eggs in the way you like them, bacon and smashed avocado is an experience you must have. You know the line Where will I meet you? We thank you all for your ongoing support.
