2 The Houston Big Game Fishing Club brings people together in ways few other organizations can, by combining the love of big game fishing with the gratification of supporting our community. While helping conserve the Gulf Coast ecosystem, funding scholarships for deserving Texas students and educating the public about marine safety and preservation, you will also create friendships with wonderful people and have a lot of fun! Events There is no shortage of events with the Houston Big Game Fishing Club. As a member you will be able to participate in a variety of unique events that bring people together. ANNUAL BANQUET Each year members with notable angling accomplishments both locally and worldwide are recognized through our Club Awards Program and honored at our spring banquet. Come celebrate the previous year s award winners, enjoy seated dining and an open bar, while also contributing to a great cause at our biggest fundraising event of the year. BLOODY THURSDAY BREAKFAST Our Thursday morning breakfast is a local tradition held during the Poco Bueno tournament in Port O Connor. Members and prospective members gather to visit and enjoy catered food and the best Bloody Marys in Texas. THE LONE STAR SHOOTOUT The fun begins at this invitational tournament with our Shrimp Boil Beer Bash and continues with the billfish tournament where you can compete against some of the best anglers in Texas. Afterwards, gather together for the Champion s Party and enjoy dinner and drinks while trophies are awarded. Delicious food, exciting competition, and fantastic fellowship make this our most memorable event of the season. Big game fishing is only the beginning! At the end of the day, you can be proud of your involvement with, and support of, the Houston Big Game Fishing Club, knowing we are working towards positive goals. Our club remains committed to future generations and has expanded our role in marine conservation, college scholarship funding and educational community service. CAPTAIN S AND MATE S PARTIES The middle of the tournament season is a prime time to host a party. Our Captain s and Mate s parties are a great opportunity to take a break from preparing your boat for upcoming tournaments and spend an afternoon with Club friends. The parties will be held in August in Freeport, Texas prior to the Texas Billfish Classic and in Port Aransas, Texas prior to the Texas Legends Billfish Tournament. FALL MIXER As the last event before the holidays, the fall mixer is the ultimate party to wrap up a wonderful summer season. This casual social gathering provides the perfect opportunity for members and potential members to get to know each other and become more involved in club activities. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Each year we award scholarship money to deserving local students to help fund their college education. Having donated well over $200,000 to high school graduates, we understand that this contribution to our youth is an investment in the future. CONSERVATION Those who love big game fishing know the importance of maintaining our environment. We donate time and money to marine conservation projects in order to guarantee that the Gulf Coast can be appreciated for years to come. EDUCATION As part of our commitment to the area, we believe in educating the public, helping Gulf Coast residents and club members understand the importance of water safety and marine preservation. FUN FISHING DAY We are proud to host the annual Fun Fishing Day for the children of the Ronald McDonald House and Shriners Children s Hospital in Galveston, Texas. The Fun Fishing Day was created to give the young patients an opportunity to get away from their daily lives and medical treatments and enjoy a day outside where volunteers spend time with the children, bonding with them and teaching them how to fish. The children receive awards for their fishing accomplishments and souvenirs from the Fun Fishing Day as well as goody bags filled with necessity s the children and their families can utilize daily.
