3 Nutritional solutions Active Nutrition Intensive research and nutritional knowledge provide the basis for all the fish and shrimp feeds developed by Skretting. Through the application of our Active Nutrition concept, the product range is tailored to best suit each species and its unique situation. Each dietary component is present for a specific reason, to perform a particular action that contributes to the health, welfare or growth of the fish at a time when it is most required. The feed must suit species, size, biology and environmental conditions, and also take into consideration farming conditions, market requirements and economic pressures. Services AquaSim Skretting offers a robust set of innovative management tools, together called AquaSim. Combining biology, quality and economics, AquaSim gives fish farmers maximum control over their production indicators. It also provides options to reduce production costs and improve farm performance. 4 Sustainability SEA Skretting is committed to improving the sustainability of the aquaculture sector. As an integral part of delivering sustainable feed solutions for fish farmers, we are constantly striving to reduce our own environmental footprint. This pledge is being delivered through a programme called SEA (Sustainable Economic Aquafeeds), which encompasses our entire production process, from raw materials to final feed solutions. SEA takes account of long-term environmental considerations while making it possible for fish farmers to operate profitable businesses. The programme is also an important contributor to helping Skretting develop nutritional solutions that address major sustainability issues within the aquaculture industry. Raw materials are a very important aspect of SEA, specifically the use of fishmeal and fish oil as components of fish and shrimp feeds, but also as limited global resources. Skretting works closely with all its suppliers to ensure the wild-caught fish used in fishmeal and fish oil production are not from over-exploited stocks. Also within this field, the company invests heavily in R&D and this commitment has enabled us to utilise more ingredients of vegetable origin and by-products without compromising feed performance, fish welfare, food safety, taste or quality. 5 Innovation Aquaculture Research Centre Skretting is convinced the challenges facing the aquaculture industry now and in the future and our own far-reaching sustainability ambitions can only be met through innovation. Innovation is led by Skretting s central R&D unit, Skretting Aquaculture Research Centre (ARC), and shared by all Skretting companies worldwide. The latest innovations include Protec, MicroBalance and Optiline Premium. - Protec helps strengthen the immune system of fish and is successfully used by fish farmers as part of an integrated fish health strategy - MicroBalance is technology based on the latest understanding of micronutrients and how they interact with fish and shrimp. By balancing micronutrients we are able to introduce unprecedented raw material flexibility at the same time as optimising feed performance, fish quality and welfare - Optiline Premium contains metabolic activators that increase energyutilisation, which leads to more efficient salmonid production ARC undertakes many major research projects on a variety of fish and shrimp species. It employs an international team of highly skilled specialists and is supported by substantial annual investment in advanced R&D. The ARC s core competencies comprise fish and shrimp nutrition and health, feed raw materials, feed manufacturing processes and food safety and quality. Its facilities include both fish and shrimp trial research stations, a pilot plant for feed production, a chemical laboratory and a number of strategically placed research units. ARC also co-operates with more than 40 universities and research institutes worldwide.
