2 Important The change to the range layout at Westborough School is to happen the weekend of 4 th and 5 th March. Shooting will end at 2:00 on Saturday 4 th March. No Shooting on Sunday 5 th March CHAIRMAN s CORNER Not much to say this month except many thanks to June Mansfield for organising our spring indoor tournament a couple of Sundays ago. My thanks also to her support staff and together they made it run very well. We have every Friday evening booked at Lockmeadow for March so do come along for the indoor sessions as we will be outdoors again before you know it! Shooting Stars Well done to Sue Williams who came first Lady Longbow Worcester and Portsmouth and, of course, combined in our own spring indoor tournament. Compliments again to Sue and Colin Symonds for completing a 12 doz Hereford round at the field a couple of weeks ago. How keen is that! Chairman Ian Sharp Secretary Sidelines Membership Fees 2017 Please pay as soon as possible, by 1 st of April 2017 at the latest. Thank you. Details are in the document I have ed and also the Feb 2017 Nocking point. Beginners Course 1 st and 8 th of April 2017 are the days for our Beginners course. There will just be the one field on those days, and therefore a good opportunity to meet and liaise with the new starters. If you are able to assist on those days, please let a member of the coaching team know. Discount with Archery GB Cards As some of you will know Cotswold Outdoor offer a discount to Members of Archery GB on production of their card in stores. If you are shopping with them online, you will need to get a special code from the Archery GB office, to obtain the discount online. I have been informed that Mountain Warehouse, may also offer a discount to Members, on production of their sporting organisation card the Archery GB card may suffice. If you do find any other places that offer discount to Archery GB members please let everyone else know. Social Members You may have noticed that we have a few Social Members, and they may from time to time visit the Archery field however, if you are a Social Member and visiting please listen out for the Field Captain s - 2 -

3 whistles the 3 whistles to collect, before venturing onto the field. There may also be some extra roping off and instructions given for entering the field. SCAS Booklet As you will be aware, some of your affiliation fees goes to SCAS. Southern Counties Archery Society, this is made up of the Counties and members of Archery GB in their region. The SCAS Booklet gives information on the Society. If you have any questions on SCAS, I can see if the answer is in the booklet for you. Just to let you know, the SCAS finances seem quite healthy. In 2016, SCAS had a surplus of 18,338, similar to the SCAS 2015 surplus of 18,643. The balance carried forward from 2016, was 182,536. Dom ********************** Captains Corner Not a lot has happened in the last month, the weather has seen to that. The spring open Worc/Ports went off well. A full house and a lot of new archers. A collection from The Isle of Wight, funny they looked just like ACA members in their shirts. A well organised crew did the usual setup, good raffle, and no problems for the judges. Field shooting We did have one practice morning at Gorewood - that s the field shooting venue of KAF. On the 25 th we set up a shoot for the 26 th, unfortunately some inconsiderate erg decided to steal 8 target faces from KAF s container in the wood, on Saturday pm. We just had enough others to set the course. Shooting in the new season? The tightening of the assessment of shooting grounds as of April has forced ACA in to making changes. The new layout will be 180 deg from existing see plan attached. If you want to help with the changes over the weekend please contact me. 5 Hi everyone, I know many of you have one or more of our lovely new shirts and ten of us ordered jackets however the hoodies do not seem popular at the moment. So how about a gillet? Colin S ********************** Record Officer's Report The main focus this last month was on the scoring for our Spring Indoor shoot at Lockmeadow. The computer scoring system is nicely bedded in and running very smoothly. There is a large amount of work to do both before the shoot and in producing the results afterwards, but a systematic approach makes the whole process reasonably simple. I do have to thank the score runners who collect the data from the archers' score sheets. During the course of the shoot just over 3,000 data points were collected by the runners in fairly chaotic conditions. But - during the whole shoot not a single error was made in transcribing these onto the runners' sheets. Wonderful work by Christine, Mike Clark, June and John. It makes things so much easier when you can rely on the accuracy of the data. Of course there were the usual problems of archers not being able to add up six single digit numbers correctly, but the system highlights these errors, making correction easy. We did have some archers who thought that both nines and tens were - 5 -
