1 Kiama Lions Club Ki-Lines Edition 16/ Hello Fellow Lions, it s great to be back from holidays (well some people might believe that!). Clive Payne must be feeling ok after his major back operation; he says he s coming to the meeting this Thursday. Welcome him back but don t pat him on the back! The announcement that Roy Cottle was retiring was premature; we re going to reinstate him in an appropriate category and he wants to be involved with flashcard ID. As stated at the last meeting Emma Hatton will be competing in the next round of YOTY at Bomaderry Bowling Club on Sunday afternoon 9 th March. She ll have a 10 minute rehearsal at this Thursday s meeting. Speaking of the meeting this Thursday we ll have Bruce Wallace to talk on NRL Welfare and Education. Bruce was made a Life Member of Australian Schoolboys rugby league in 2009 for his contribution since the mid-70s. He also coached the Australian Schoolboys team from 1993 to 1995, culminating in the highly successful tour of England and France where many point scoring records were set. Bruce s passion at the moment is to ensure the next crop of league players are equipped better to conduct themselves appropriately in society. I believe it will be a great presentation. A couple of events occurring over the coming month where volunteers will be needed 2 Mar Cleanup Australia; 8, 9 Mar Bunnings BBQ; 22 Mar Second Hand Saturday. Please be proactive in the giving of your time. Finally Geoff Heinecke has had to put the Happy Hour back a week due to the Surf Club double booking. It s now on Friday 21 st March Pres. Lions Clubs International Foundation Chairperson and Immediate Past International President Wayne A. Madden will participate in the competition.

5 The proceeds of these tournaments will be donated to LCIF's worldwide measles efforts in partnership with the GAVI Alliance. Additionally, for each participating couple, US$1,000 will be donated to LCIF as a Melvin Jones Fellowship in their honor. New Member Recruiting Guide for Clubs STEP 1: PREPARE YOUR CLUB ( extract below for consideration) The first step to inviting new members to join your Lions club is to get your club ready. Decide what you want your club to be. What does your club want to focus on? What do your members want your club to be? How do you envision your club next year? Five years from now? Identify what you want your club to accomplish. What type of service projects does your club want to conduct? How often? Where? Decide what your goals are. Use the Recruiting Goals form in this guide to define your club membership goals. Be sure to consider how new members will fit in with your objectives.

6 Why does your club want new members? Before you begin inviting new members, it is important to identify why. The answer should be clear, tangible and relevant, not simply for more service. For example: If we had 3 more members, we could pack 100 more lunches for the homeless each month. Who are your target members? Are they younger members, women, community professionals, parents of Leos, family members or friends? Your club may have more than one target group. Keep in mind that when recruiting new members, it often works best to recruit a group of 2-4 people. I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over. THE SENILITY PRAYER : Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.
