1 In case of inclement weather, call to see if the class has been postponed for the day. TFTTB Group Golf Lessons Confirmation Packet Welcome to The First Tee of Tampa Bay's Group Golf Lessons! We fully expect that your child will have lots of fun, meet new friends and eventually learn how to play golf on the course. Within this packet are several things of which you and your child should be aware. Please take a few minutes prior to your child's first lesson to review these materials. Enclosed are the following: 1. TFTTB Group Golf Lessons Reminders 2. The First Tee Nine Core Values These will be discussed at various times throughout the program. 3. The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits - These will be discussed at various times throughout the program. 4. The First Tee of Tampa Bay Team Certification Requirements Shows what you will need to accomplish to pass the "Team Certification" level according to The First Tee program. Please save these forms and documents until needed as instructed by the golf instructor. As always, the most important thing about playing golf is to be safe and have fun!!! Your Child's Primary Goal for the Group Golf Lessons Pass the "Team Certification" Requirements to Become Eligible for The First Tee of Tampa Bay Golf Team. See Requirements on the Last Page of This Packet.
2 TFTTB Group Golf Lessons Class Reminders 1. Your child's primary goal for the Group Golf Lessons is to pass the "Team Certification" Requirements to become eligible for The First Tee of Tampa Bay Golf Team. See Requirements on the last page of this packet. 2. In case of inclement weather, call to see if the class has been postponed for the day. If a class needs to be cancelled for a non-weather related reason, a staff member will call you. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather will be made up at the back end of the session if possible. Talk to the instructor about any possible makeup dates due to a cancelled class. 3. The class will meet once per week for seven weeks. Please have your child arrive at least ten minutes early so that the lesson can begin on time. We encourage parents to meet the instructor prior to the first lesson and ask any questions at this time. Adults are welcome to watch the lessons from an appropriate distance as long as they are not a disruption to the class. In most places, the class will meet at the clubhouse or putting green on the first day. 4. Please pick your child up on time immediately following his/her lesson. 5. Your child is welcome to use his/her own golf clubs during the lessons, but we will provide clubs for those who do not have them. 6. We ask that your child wear a hat, clean sneakers or comfortable shoes, a golf or collared shirt if possible, and dress shorts or pants during each lesson. Sandals, high heeled shoes and jeans are not allowed. 7. If you are going to be absent or late for a class, please let the instructor know ahead of time if possible. Continued unexcused absences may result in removal from the program and jeopardize enrollment eligibility in future TFTTB programs. If your child is unable to continue with or participate in a session that he or she is registered, please call TFTTB office immediately. 8. If you need to cancel your registration, program fees may be transferred to a future class if cancellation occurs before registration deadline. 9. When a child completes all of the necessary "Team Certification" level requirements within a seven-week session, he or she will be invited to continue through The First Tee of Tampa Bay Golf Team program in their area. It is common for a child to need several seven-week sessions before he or she is able to pass all of the necessary requirements. Our instructors pass the children when they complete ALL of the necessary requirements during a seven-week session, but not before. Participants will get to try each requirement up to 3 times during the session. 10. See The First Tee of Tampa Bay's "Team Certification" requirements in this confirmation packet for specific details. If you have any questions regarding this or any other TFTTB program, feel free to give us a call at We are confident that not only will your child s golf game improve, but that he or she will also have lots of fun in the process. We ll see you soon!
3 The First Tee Nine Core Values The First Tee has established Nine Core Values that represent some of the many inherently positive values connected with the game of golf. These Nine Core Values have been incorporated into The First Tee Experience and have been used to name golf holes at several of The First Tee facilities. 1. Honesty - the quality or state of being truthful; not deceptive Golf is unique from other sports in that players regularly call penalties on themselves. 2. Integrity -strict adherence to a standard of value or conduct. Personal honesty and independence. Golf is a game of honesty, etiquette and composure. You are responsible for your actions and personal conduct on the golf course. 3. Sportsmanship- observing the rules of play and winning or losing with grace. You must know and abide by the rules of golf and be able to conduct yourself in a respectful manner. 4. Respect- to feel or show deferential regard for; esteem. In golf, it is important to show respect for yourself, your partners, your opponents and the golf course as well as for the honor and traditions of the game. 5. Confidence- reliance or trust. A feeling of self-assurance Confidence plays a key role in the level of play that you achieve. You must have confidence in your abilities every time you play. 6. Responsibility- accounting for one s actions; dependable. In golf, you are responsible for yourself and your actions on the golf course. It is up to you to keep score, repair divots, rake bunkers, repair ball marks on the green and keep up with the pace of play. 7. Perseverance - to persist in an idea, purpose or task despite obstacles. To succeed in golf, you must learn to persevere through bad breaks and your own mistakes. 8. Courtesy - considerate behavior toward others. A polite remark or gesture. A round of golf should begin and end with a handshake between fellow competitors. Show courtesy toward others by remaining still and quiet while they prepare and execute a shot. 9. Judgment - the ability to make a decision or form an opinion. A decision reached after consideration. Using good judgment is critical in golf. It comes into play when deciding on strategy, club selection, when to play safe and when to take a chance, the type of shot you consider executing, as well as understanding and abiding by etiquette. One way to remember The First Tee s Nine Core Values is the acronym C R JRS CHIP. It sounds like See our juniors chip, but each letter represents one of the Nine Core Values: Confidence Responsibility Judgment Respect Sportsmanship Courtesy Honesty Integrity Perseverance
4 The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits Summary Statements Physical Energy It is important to understand and make healthy choices about when to eat, how much to eat, and the types of food and drinks to provide the body with the most useful energy. Play A variety of energizing play can help the body stay strong, lean and fit, and be fun in the process. Sleep and other forms of re-charging allow one to engage in play on a daily basis. Safety Physical safety includes playing in a safe environment and by the rules, protecting the body with proper equipment, warm-up and cool-down and wearing sun protection. Emotional Vision In order to make the most of one s unique gifts talents, characteristics and abilities an individual needs to learn from the past, value the present, create their vision and future to ultimately leave a footprint. Mind The mind is a powerful tool for health. One s mind influences his/her emotions and behaviors and can be utilized for self-improvement, building confidence and maintaining perspective. Family When family members participate in activities together share meals, communicate and establish roles and responsibilities they are more likely to be successful in achieving their health-related goals. Social Friends Maintaining healthy relationships includes surrounding one s self with friends and supportive people, while effectively handling challenging situations, including bullying and navigating the digital age with social media. School Success in school - learning, building relationships and contributing to the school environment - leads to success in other areas of life. Community Like the health of one s body, it is important to also explore the health of one s community and discover how one can give back and care for its environment and safety.
