1 WELCOME FROM GOLF TASMANIA MESSAGE On behalf of Golf Tasmania we would like to welcome all spectators, players, officials and volunteers to the 2018 Hostplus Thyne Trophy and North vs South Plate. This is the 54th staging of the Thyne Trophy and the 16th staging of the North vs South Plate, however this is only the sixth time that both these prestigious events have been conducted simultaneously. Both events continuously provide us with an exciting and high level of competition from players around Tasmania. The Hostplus Thyne Trophy and North vs South Plate enables each of the State s four area associations and two regions to come together to pit their golfers against the best of Tasmania, while instilling that team spirit with well known area rivalry. We look forward to seeing how the competition unfolds and congratulating the victorious teams. We would also like to thank the Kingston Beach Golf Club for hosting these championships and we wish all the teams and players the best of luck throughout the tournament. Tony Bush CHAIR

2 WELCOME FROM KINGSTON BEACH GOLF CLUB MESSAGE On behalf of the Board, members and staff of Kingston Beach Golf Club I would like to welcome you all to the 2018 Hostplus Thyne Trophy and Women s North v South Plate. These competitions are a highlight of the Tasmanian golfing calendar and we congratulate all players who have been selected to represent their respective regions and we hope that you all enjoy your time in our region and particularly the Kingston Beach Golf Club. No doubt the competition will be strong and challenging and will be played in the spirit of fairness that is the important element of what is the game of golf. Our course staff and volunteers, who are ably led by our Acting Superintendent Dan Marriott, have put significant effort and time in preparing the course to the level that you will enjoy during your competition. 6 HISTORY LAURIE THYNE As a player Laurie Thyne represented the North for in excess of 25 years and played in the original North vs South matches (men). At national level Laurie also represented Tasmania in 1952 and As an administrator Laurie was a Northern delegate to the Tasmanian Golf Council from Laurie was a Tasmanian Golf Council Delegate to the Australian Golf Union through out the 1950's. Laurie Thyne Laurie was bestowed life membership of the Tasmanian Golf Council in 1965, the governing body s first life member. Laurie Thyne passed away on March 13, 1993 and the Thyne Trophy is named in recognition of Laurie s contribution to golf in Tasmania. KERYN HENRY Keryn Henry represented Tasmania for 15 years between 1974 and Keryn and Anne Medlycott (nee Davie) are the only Tasmanians to win the Australian Women s Foursomes Championship (1974). However, Keryn s most successful year would be 1978 when she won the Southern and Tasmanian women s championships. Keryn Henry Keryn was selected to represent Australia in the Tasman Cup (vs New Zealand) and remained undefeated in her two matches. Keryn also shared victory in the New Zealand Women s Stroke Play Championship. Keryn Henry passed away on April 11, Teams from the North and South compete for The Plate which bears one of Keryn s clubs and was created in honour of her achievements. TROPHIES THYNE TROPHY AND NORTH VS SOUTH PLATE The winning men s area association will hold the Thyne Trophy for one year. The winning women s region will hold The Plate for one year.
