Our season opener Single Mingle was a hit. We were pleased to see so many familiar faces and welcomed some potential new members too. Thanks to all of you who attended the happy hour. I very much appreciate the effort many of you spent making our guests feel welcome. It seemed like everyone enjoyed the new venue and the menu. We will be shifting the venue each month between a few locations. If you know of a good spot that is near a major highway, please make a recommendation to the board. Some members expressed concern that we are changing communication. We are NOT. You will continue to receive s about events on a regular basis. You will also see flyers posted on the website for upcoming social events and golf events. Golf flyers have always been there, now social items will also. That way if your plans change and you can t find the you can always find the details on our website. We simply asked that IF you happen to be active on social media, please display some of that activity on our meetup site. Lastly but most importantly, I want to announce two board changes. Please welcome Katie Serbin to the board. Katie will serve in the position of Secretary, an appointed position which she graciously agreed to support. Chris Brady has volunteered to don another hat, that of webmaster. As most of you know Jimmy LaRosa has been our dedicated webmaster for many, many years. He was ready to turn over the password. Jimmy, I was hoping to thank you publicly at the Single Mingle, but this newsletter will have to suffice. Thank you for giving so much of your time to this chapter. You ve selflessly served longer than any other board member. Daylight saving time is here. Now all we need is a little warm weather and we can get started. ~Karen Eckert, specialk312@msn.com 2018 Golf Schedule Although snow is still in the forecast (and on many golf courses), we are optimistically moving forward with our golf schedule! Many outings are already confirmed, and others are being arranged as we go to press. Our first Saturday of golf will be April 7 th at Landis Creek. Dust off those clubs and come out and join us for a fun day of golf followed by dinner onsite as we watch The Masters from Augusta. We ve posted the current 2018 course listings on the website here: 2018 Golf Calendar Take a look and consider signing up to coordinate an outing at your favorite course. Social Update Spring is just around the corner, but winter s fury didn't stop this very social group from getting out this past month. Many thanks to Ron Schillow for hosting Joe Conklin's comedy show. We enjoyed dinner and dancing at Dueling Piano's, and Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events (see SinglesGolf.com/events) ASGA National-Sponsored Sunshine Fling April 12-15, Gaylord Opryland, Nashville, TN (a Marriott property). Three nights, two rounds of golf + 2 optional rounds, dinners, etc. + $ closest-to-pin competition. Details at The Reunion in Pinehurst May 25-28, Return to the site of various U. S. Opens in the middle of North Carolina. We hope you joined the St Patrick's Day Pub Crawl that Karen Eckert is hosting. For those who haven't gone south this winter and need to dust off the cobwebs, please consider signing up for Jack's Play A Round Golf simulators and dinner on March 24th. Joanne Kendall, Golf Chairperson, has published our preliminary 2018 schedule. I'll be scaling back events as she gears up, but we'll switch to Friday night 9 & Dine formats again. I'll be working with Gerry Chalphin, Debbie Kindt and Rich Switzer to make sure any new members get on those informal lists and throw in some nights of dancing instead of just dinner. If you haven't been to one of the Friday night dinner events at LuLu Country Club, then I highly recommend trying at least one. You can't beat the prices, quantity and quality of food on top of the fun atmosphere, live music and dancing. Yes, golfing is optional for each 9 & Dine so don't be shy but consider playing or dining or doing both some Friday nights. I'll be posting another Poll on Facebook so please contact me if you use Facebook but aren't a member of our private group, so you can see our posts which aren't Public. The poll will be regarding the 2018 Holiday Party. I'll continue to send s too and work with Chris to post flyers on our website but I'm getting the fastest feedback from Facebook posts which is only 50% of the league today. Thanks for getting out there this past winter to help make these ASGA events so much fun for everyone including myself! ~Maria Zuliani, Maria_zulian@hotmail.com Joe Conklin Comedy Night Trying to overcome the winter doldrums, four members of Philly ASGA attended the Joe Conklin Comedy Night on Saturday, February 24 th : Patti Rose, Debbie Kindt, Bob Reph and Ron Schillow were joined by 444 additional guests. After filling our stomachs with an Italian Buffet, we all settled back for two hours of solar plexus laughter. Joe Conklin was joined by two other comedians. Door prizes and a added to the laughs. We ALMOST had a ticket winner in our group. Lots of wine was consumed and a good time was had by all. Next event will be coming soon. Be on the lookout. ~Ron Schillow Volunteers Needed for Symetra Tour at Ravens Claw Women s Professional Golf comes to Montco with the inaugural Valley Forge Invitational, May at Ravens Claw Golf Club in Pottstown. The event features up and coming stars in the LPGA Symetra Tour, taking on the challenge of one of Montgomery County s finest public courses. Volunteers are needed. If interested go to this link: golf/valley-forge-invitational. The website describes the cost to volunteer, what the volunteer receives and volunteer positions and descriptions.
