1 Betsy Rawls Invitational University of Texas Golf Club Austin, Texas October 10-14, 2014 AUSTIN, Texas - The SMU women s golf team will compete at the 42nd Betsy Rawls Invitational hosted by Texas, starting on Sunday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will conclude Tuesday. It s a short week for the Mustangs as they wrapped up play at the Schooner Fall Class on Oct. 6. We got a lot of good work in this week while catching up on school and sleep, head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. You cannot make huge improvements over a week. What you can do is talk about the mindset needed down in Austin. We have talked about strategy while working on long chips and bunker shots. We have another good field this week. We look forward to competing. SMU was in the field in 2013 as well. The tournament will be played at the University of Texas Golf Club. The field will play on the par-72, 6,225-yard course. Live scoring will be at GolfStat.com. SMU will play with Texas and Baylor on the opening day of play. They will tee off at 9 a.m. on hole 1. At te 2013 Betsy Rawls Invitational, SMU took 5th place. At the event, the Mustangs shot 872 (+8, ). A year ago, Jenny Haglund and Alexandra Rossi tied for 11th place. Each finished 3-under. Katie Page and Lindsey McCurdy also competed at the 2013 edition of Betsy Rawls. Page shot 8-over for 48th while McCurdy was +11 for 58th. SMU s Lineup SMU will send six to the Betsy Rawls Invitational. Jennifer Park, Jenny Haglund, Alexandra Rossi, Katie Page and Lindsey McCurdy will play in their fourth event this fall. Alex Celli will also join the Mustangs in her second tournament of the year. I think everyone has taken their turn to shine, head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. If you want to be great in women s golf, you have to have that depth. I am excited about that but not surprised. There is lots of talent on this team. Everyone has gotten better every week. I still see areas of improvement. Our mindset could be better on the weekends but I like the direction we are moving in. Last Time Out The SMU women s golf team wrapped up a seventh place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, on Oct. 6. As a team, the Mustangs shot 845 (+5, ). Junior Jenny Haglund had the Mustangs best inividual finish of 5-under (205, ), which was good for a fourth place tie. Senior Jennifer Park was even-par (210, ) and finished in a tie for 16th. Katie Page carded rounds of to finish six-over. Alexandra Rossi was nine-over with rounds of and Lindsey McCurdy rounded out Mustangs score at Mississippi State won the event by finishing 22-under. Arkansas took a distance second place at 3-under. Mississippi State s Chieh Jessica Peng was the individual winner at 6-under. 1

In the programs inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference, Sutherland coached the individual winner (Jenny Haglund) while coaching the team to a third place-finish. Once again, Sutherland will be assisted by David Von Ins. Sutherland Speaks I have competed at the UT Golf Club many times. I love the course; it s a lot of fun to play. You have to use strategy every shot. You have to think about the wind and the bounce of the ball, which makes you plan your shotsaccordingly. That s the best part about golf. You have to always put yourself in the right position and know what s going on. We played pretty well last year. I have good memories from the course from over the years. It is nice to play in the state of Texas too.
