2 WHO WE ARE The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has a junior membership (boys and girls ages 13-18) of more than 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries. The Association is served by an elected Board of Directors, headed by Chairman of the Board J.R. "Digger" Smith. WHAT WE DO The AJGA provides exceptional junior golfers the opportunity to develop and showcase their competitive skills and has built a reputation of providing the best exposure vehicle for college golf scholarships. Led by Executive Director Stephen Hamblin, more than 40 full-time staff members perform the day-to-day operations of the AJGA from its National Headquarters in Braselton, Ga. THE 2003 SEASON The AJGA will conduct 70 tournaments and 45 Qualifiers at worldclass facilities in 27 states, Canada and Sweden. Host facilities in 2003 include DuPont Country Club, English Turn Golf & Country Club, Grayhawk Golf Club, The Homestead Resort, Mission Hills Country Club, Oak Tree Country Club and Walt Disney World Resort. BRIEF HISTORY The AJGA conducted its first national junior tournament, the Tournament of Champions, in August of 1978 at Inverrary Country Club in Lauderhill, Fla. The American Junior Classic followed in November, where the first AJGA All-America team was named. The Association s schedule has continued to grow over the past 25 years, and the AJGA slate has more than doubled in the last decade. The AJGA continues to announce the All-America team and a Scholastic All-America team each November. AJGA ALUMNI About the AJGA AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 140 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 280 Tour victories. AJGA alumni include Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, David Toms, David Duval, Justin Leonard, Charles Howell III, Jim Furyk, Beth Bauer, Laura Diaz, Emilee Klein, Cristie Kerr, Grace Park, and Sherri Steinhauer.
