The aim is to eventually have schools include golf in their sports curriculum. Our pilot project with Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidhyalaya (MSMSV) started on the 15th of Feb. 87 children, primarily in the age group of 8 to 12, have joined our first batch. They are being coached for two months by seven coaches who have agreed to impart instruction at a nominal fee. The children have been charged Rs for our 2 month Level 1 programme. The coaching syllabus has been prepared in co-ordination with Director of the National Golf Academy / Chief Coach of the Indian Amateur Team, Mr. Jassi Grewal. A pictorial booklet explaining the game of golf and its fundamentals is also a part of the course kit provided to the children. The Junior Golf Programme (JGP) is working on getting the govt. to allot us land in the MSMSV and Vidyadhar Nagar Stadium to establish practice ranges. This further will enhance our reach to spread golf amongst the larger population of Jaipur. I would like to take this opportunity to ask members to come forward & offer their assistant, either in the capacity of a substitute coach, or, in any other capacity that they may think may help the RGC's JGP. Memorial Golf Tournament was organized at the Rambagh Golf Club in Jaipur. 150 players participated in the one day tourney in various categories. The Chief Guests for the day Princess Diya Kumari of Jaipur and the Mayor of Jaipur, Ms. Jyoti Khandelwal gave away trophies and awards to the winners. The format of the tourney was scramble. Winners in Veteran category (3 under) were Mr. R.S. Choudhary, Mr. Hem Singh Khangarot, Mr. Mali Ram and Mr. Randhir Singh. In the women category (1 over) winners were Ms. Ruchie Mehta, Ms. Sunita Mehra, Ms. Ritu Oberoi and Ms. Komal Choudhary. The winners (11 UNDER ) of the tournament were Mr. Sunil Dutt (Captain), Mr. Neeraj Lakhi, Mr. Sachendar Mishra and Mr. Surendar Yadav. While Runner Ups (10 UNDER) were Mr. Murshid Ahmed (Captain ), Mr. Rakesh Meena, Mr. Sukhvir Saini and Mr. Shalendar Sandhu. 8 COURSE UPDATE Winters came late but with vengeance. The Greens battled hard with frost and hailstorms. A doze of 'Thio-urea' worked very well and our turf survived. The seasonal weed called poa annua showed up with preponderance. It caught the attention of many golfers and specially those who were concerned more than normal about the well being of our course. Their concerns were well founded but got smoked with misplaced myths. This weed is a common feature on all the courses during winters. Our fairway grass is of a type which stands high temperatures and thrives in summers as we have such a climate for major part of the year. While the fairway grass lies dormant during winters the weed thrives and we see that all over. Secondly, extra care and sufficient watering, which we ensured this time, also helped weeds to germinate that much faster. The nature and condition of the drain water makes difficult for seeds of poa annua to survive and the myth that sewerage water brings weed is not well founded. Most of the seeds of poa annua get transported with hay and wind. May be horses in our neighbourhood could be one possibility. We also do not have expensive vacuum cleaners necessary for removing seeds and other impurities from the fairways after the mowers have done their job. We are in a process of formulating weed management strategy and next season we hope to control it better. Pruning of the trees both for botanical and golfing reasons was undertaken to make the course better. The pruning and lopping of trees is a routine process and necessary for healthy trees. Some of the trees were lopped to make fairway alignments safer as well as allow golfers to try regulation golf shots. Winters is a good time to do the pruning as it allows sunlight reaching the grass which would have otherwise been in shade and perhaps not survived the cold. Courtesy Captain, the Course got an aesthetic lift by wind-washed rocks, artistically sprinkled around. A new hut has been constructed near Tee No 10 which was long standing demand of the members. Now it can also house starter and water point staff. The construction of safety net- dome range for warming up and practice near Tee No 1 has commenced and we should be able to inaugurate the same by April. With the golf traffic increasing every day time available for maintenance is shrinking. There is a proposal for keeping the course closed for a day in a week. Awaiting brighter and warm sun the course promises better playing conditions ahead. Col. However, I would appreciate an effort by the club in holding some kind of workshops at regular intervals wherein, tips are given to players by experts to improve their games.

Indeed, the Club has come a long way since its inception, has grown manifolds in terms of facilities and ambience.
