1 EMGA Update 16 March 2017 No A Note from the EMGA Update Editor Welcome to the 2017 EMGA/EGC golfing season. You may or may not know that yesterday was the first day you could golf in Colorado and post score! That s a sure sign that the season is on its way. For those of you who are new to the organization, the EMGA Update is published every Thursday during the EMGA golfing season and contains information about golfing events for both the EMGA and Eisenhower Golf Club (EGC). You ll see the yearly schedules and results of weekly events. In addition to that, this media is designed to keep abreast of its membership. Therefore, if you know of anything that you think warrants publishing in this newsletter, feel free to give me your update no later than 5:00 pm on Thursday for inclusion into the EMGA Update. Hope everyone has a fantastic season..and hit em straight! Bill King (bill.king@elreyenterprises.com) EMGA Update Editor A Reminder from the EGC If you are not an Option 3 EGC member, i.e., unlimited play, you need to check into the Pro Shop to pay green fees for all EMGA events to include all tournaments, OPC, Home and Away, and Match Play events. Match Play The signup sheet will be posted on the match play bulletin board on March 8th and sign ups end on April 30. There will be only one signup sheet (the one in men's locker room). Play will begin on May 15 or as soon as bracket info has been provided to all players. Round required completion dates will be included on the bracket sheets and must be complied with. To be eligible for the EMGA Match Play Tournament all players must be current EMGA members, have a current GHIN and have paid the $10 entry fee to either our EMGA treasurer, John Hayes, Dan Cook, the Match Play Manager or Bob Hayes, the Assistant Manager. Additional details on our Match Play Tournament are on the EMGA web site and in the EMGA handbook. Call Dan Cook at or Bob Hayes at with any questions. Dan Cook (anndanco@gmail.com) Match Play Manager 1
2 EGC (Eisenhower Golf Course) Fees and EMGA Membership Options EMGA rules require that in order to play in EMGA events, individuals must be a current [dues paid] member and have active GHIN (your GHIN is an annual fee that must be renewed every year regardless of when you paid in the previous year). Many of our members are currently out of pocket. Please take a moment and send your 2017 dues [$50] to: John Hayes 5190 Farmingdale Drive Colorado Springs, CO Or put your payment in the check box in the Men s locker room. Associate Member Program EMGA members, who can no longer play but want to stay in touch with old friends, should know about EMGA's resurrected Associate Member program. For $25 per year, they can: o Attend all EMGA member meetings and meals. They will get back their membership fee in meals alone. o o o Continue to get the EMGA Weekly Update. They cannot, however, participate in EMGA golf events or tournaments. Members should send their Associate Dues to: John Hayes, EMGA Treasurer (payment method shown above) A Reminder from the EGC If you are not an Option 3 EGC member, i.e., unlimited play, you need to check into the Pro Shop to pay green fees for all EMGA events to include all tournaments, OPC, Home and Away, and Match Play events. 2
3 Tournament Update Welcome to the 2017 tournament season. Due to a repeated history of having to postpone or cancel due to weather, we are delaying our first tournament, The String ABCD Memorial, until Thursday May 4th and dropping the Spring ABCD tournament. Check- in will be from 06:45 to 07:30; our remembrance breakfast from 07:30 to 08:30; and a shot gun start at 09:00. We also have a few rule changes this year. a. For 2017, the USGA is allowing clubs to establish a local rule for accidental ball movement on the green. The rule is no penalty for accidental movement which can involve a variety of actions in which the player unintentionally moves his ball or ball-marker. Examples include: dropping the ball-marker on the ball, accidentally making contact with the ball when taking a practice swing near the ball, accidentally making contact when addressing the ball, etc. We will be using this rule in all our tournaments. b. Except for the Kregel, Flights 1 through 4 will play from the white tees and Flight 5 from the Yellow tees. (In the Kregel, Flight 1 will play from the green tees). While we will continue to allow Flight 4 members to play it forward from the yellow tees, any member doing so will not be eligible for any gross awards. Currently, this only affects the Kregel, Individual Modified Stableford, and the Low Gross/Low Net tournaments. c. For the String ABCD Memorial, instead of the past practice of a maximum of 5 drives per player, we will be requiring a minimum of 1 drive per player on each nine. We will also be allowing all 4 players to attempt each putt instead of rotating putts. The tournament committee will reassess after the String for how we play the Fall ABCD Scramble based upon pace of play, so please keep up with the group in front of you. Don Knight (d-eknight@comcast.net) Tournament Director 3
4 Home & Away The Home and Away (H&A) program is designed to give us a chance to play nice country clubs in the area that we normally wouldn't get a chance to play. Members of these country clubs like to come to the Eisenhower Golf Course, a place they don't usually get a chance to play. We field a team of between 12 and 20 players (however many the opponents want to field) and play two games at the same time. We play two-man best ball in Match Play format for bragging rights. Each match has three points available (one each for the front and back nine and one for the overall total). Matches or parts of matches that end up all square earn.5 points per side. These matches are handicapped off the course handicap of the lowest player. We also play a four ball (two-man best net ball) game for pro shop credit going to the best three or four teams, depending on the number of players. This game is played at 90% of the players' handicap. At home, we also play a voluntary gross and net skins game ($5 entry fee) in which the winner of a gross skin cannot also win a net skin on the same hole. Skins winnings are paid in cash. The cost of playing in our Home and Away events will be $120 per event for those selected to play. As before, this will cover your green fees of your guest (opponent) [$60]. For both you and your guest, it also covers [$30 for both], range balls [$10 for both], prize contribution [$10], Continental breakfast [$9.35 for both], sit-down lunch [$37.26 average], and tee prizes [$6]. A copy of the schedule is attached. Sign up for any and all events you would like by sending an to homeaway@emgacolorado.org. Please address any questions to the H&A committee members (John Tucker; Mike Trivette, or Kevin Alldredge) at homeaway@emgacolorado.org Thanks. John Tuck Tucker (jmiktuk@msn.com) Home and Away Coordinator 4
