I. for Facility Arrival and Golf Shop April 2015 Objective - The objective is to provide an enjoyable, inviting and efficient experience when arriving at the Long Point golf facility and clubhouse. will be checked and maintained to insure consistency of this positive experience for members and guests each time they arrive. Arrival The flow of traffic will direct vehicles arriving for golf toward the bag drop area. Uniformed attendants will staff the bag drop area. Attendants will conduct themselves in a professional manner and will attempt to greet each member by name; nametags must be visible. Sufficient staffing will be provided such that there are no unnecessary delays. The bag drop area will be kept neat and clean continually throughout the day. Golf clubs will be placed in appropriate carts according to the requirements of the day s activity. On days when the east parking lot is full, attendants will direct people to use the west lot. If nonmembers will be arriving for an event, the Long Point security guard will be notified to expect people entering the gate in order to park in the west lot. Efforts will be made to complete mowing and blowing around the practice areas, golf shop and Long Point clubhouse by 7:45 am. Golf Carts Trash and other debris will be removed when carts return from play. At the beginning of each day, golf carts will have been thoroughly washed and the windshields wiped down. The sand containers must be full, a new scorecard, sharp pencil and tees in place, and two towels provided. Water Station The water station will be stocked throughout the day. It will be maintained to be always neat and orderly. 2
Departure As players complete their round, they should be met by an attendant, who will clean their clubs. The attendant will inspect the cart to insure that players do not leave any personal articles behind. The attendant should assist in placing clubs in cars. Clubs that remain for storage will be placed in the storage facility immediately. Golf Shop The entrance will be maintained as clean as possible throughout the day. The staff will be visible and provide a warm greeting to all. Special attention will be given to guests and new members, including location of their clubs and cart, water station, their starting tee, and the Long Point clubhouse and turn station; pace of play requirements should be explained. The golf shop will be properly stocked with apparel for men and women, as well as clubs, balls, and other golf related items. Apparel items will be kept up to date according to current styles and members desires. A knowledgeable staff member will be available to assist and answer questions. Items will be displayed in an attractive manner and displays will be changed frequently. Demo clubs will be available to be checked out for testing. Additionally, they will be responsible for proper written communication to members regarding significant events related to golf activities. 3
II. for Long Point Golf Course Greens Objective The objective is to maintain exceptional and healthy greens that have uniform pace, smoothness, firmness, and are weed free. 1. Green speed will be measured daily with a USGA stimpmeter and reported to the pro shop for posting. This is to insure a consistent minimum speed objective of 9 with a maximum speed of 11, except periods following core aerification or vertical mowing during the summer. 2. There will be a rotation between mowing and rolling of the greens to help with overall Turfgrass health while maintaining the above mentioned speed objectives. We will use a weihle roller on ridged frame walk mowers during the Bermuda growing season and a smooth roller on ridged frame walk mowers during the winter months. 3. Height of cut and equipment will be based on weather conditions and health of Turfgrass. Our goal is to use a combination of best cultural practices, mowing, and rolling to meet our greens speed goals. 4. Greens will be core aerified a minimum of 2 times during the summer. We will solid tine aerifiy the greens monthly during the winter months. 5. Greens will be topdressed as needed to replace the material removed during core aerification. Light topdressing will be done throughout the year to help with smoothness of the greens and help dilute organic matter accumulation. 6. Vertical mowing and surface grooming will be utilized to provide the optimum putting surfaces. Vertical mowing will take place during the summer months, as needed, which will be based on grain severity and thatch accumulation. Less aggressive surface grooming will be done throughout the year. 7. Growth regulators will be used on a weekly basis during the growing season to insure Turfgrass health. 8. Turf pigments will be used during the winter months to maintain a green color. 9. Cups will be changed daily during high course use. During periods of light play, cups may remain on the same location, but ball marks will be repaired by maintenance to insure a smooth putting surface around the cup. 10. Cups will be painted daily with white paint. 11. Soil, tissue, and water samples will be taken a minimum of three times per year. The fertility program will be based on the results of these samples to insure proper health of the Turfgrass. 4
12. Soil moisture will be checked daily using a soil moisture meter. The irrigation cycle will be based on these readings, and an emphasis will be placed on hand watering to help achieve a firm putting surface. 13. Greens will be monitored daily for disease. We will spray fungicides on a preventive basis, using curative rates only if there is a failure of the preventive program. 5
Tees Objective- The objective is to maintain weed free playing surfaces that are smooth and firm with dense turfgrass coverage during the growing season. The teeing surface shall be sufficient in size to provide excellent playing conditions for a wide range of players abilities. Tees, Collars, and Approaches 1. Tees, collars and approaches are to be dense, firm and free of weeds during the growing season. 2. Turfgrass density and quality are of paramount importance and should take priority over tree root competition, impaired light intensity and duration, and restricted air circulation. Serious consideration shall be given to root pruning and tree pruning, thinning and removal in order to allow conditions for the development of high quality turf. 3. Tee markers will be moved on a daily basis when the course is open for play. 4. Staff will utilize the tee square to ensure proper tee alignment of markers. 5. Tees, collars, and approaches will be cut three times per week during the growing season using a triplex riding mower. 6. Height of cut will be based on weather conditions and health of turfgrass. Our goal is to manage the turf grass to a bench setting of.500 for daily play. 7. Circle cutting will be utilized during the summer months as needed to help control thatch and provide a cleaner cut and appearance. 8. Tees, collars, and approaches will be core aerified three times per year during the summer months along with vertical mowing, when needed. 9. Tees, collars, and approaches will be topdressed as needed for soil profile modification and organic matter dilution. 10. Growth regulators will be used bi-weekly during the summer months to ensure optimum playing conditions. 11. Teeing areas will be inspected daily. Trash, broken tees, divots, debris, etc. are to be removed daily. 12. Divot buckets are to be clean and full and aligned on the left side of the teeing area. 13. Ball washers are to be clean and full and have a clean tee towel provided. 14. Soil, tissue, and water samples will be taken a minimum of three times per year. The fertility program will be based on the results of these samples to insure proper health of the Turfgrass. 6
Fairways Objective- Fairways should be populated with healthy grass so that the ball can easily be played down during the growing season. 1. Fairways are to play firm and fast (except when we are required to dispose of effluent water). 2. Fairways will be cut 3 times per week during the growing season. 3. Fairways will be circle cut during the summer months to help control grain and provide a smoother appearance. 4. Height of cut and equipment configuration will be based on weather conditions and health of Turfgrass. Our goal is to manage our fairways at a bench setting of.550 for daily play. 5. Vertical mowing and core aerification will be utilized during the summer months to provide the optimum playing surface and limit thatch accumulation. 6. The fertility program will be based on the soil and tissue samples taken throughout the year 7. Growth regulators will be used in the summer months to ensure optimum playing conditions. 8. Fairways will be treated annually for control of insects such as grubs and mole crickets. 9. Fairway perimeters will be mown using a triplex mower to preserve the definition and attention to detail of these areas. 10. Fairways will be inspected daily for moisture requirements, disease, and fertility requirements. Debris and trash will be removed daily. Leaves will be blown daily during the spring and fall. 7
Rough Objective - The objective is to maintain the rough at levels that will motivate players to hit shots to the fairway. Consideration will be given to golf course aesthetics, speed of play, and severity of penalty. 1. Rough will be managed in a manner designed to be slightly more penal than the fairway. Roughs that are unplayable due to height or density of Turfgrass are unacceptable. 2. Roughs will be cut a minimum of once a week during the growing season, weather permitting. 3. Height of cut and equipment configuration will be based on weather conditions and health of Turfgrass. Our goal is to manage our roughs at a bench setting of 1.5 for daily play. 4. A perimeter cut will be mowed once a week during the growing season. The height of cut will be in the middle of the fairway and rough heights of cut. 5. Roughs will be core aerified a minimum of 2 times during the summer. 6. Root pruning the perimeters of the rough will be done on an annual basis. 7. Growth regulators will be used during the summer months to ensure optimum playing conditions. 8. Rough fertility will be managed according to soil, water, and tissue test. 9. Roughs will be treated annually for control of insects such as grubs and mole crickets. 8
Bunkers (Note: The Bunker will not be completely enforced until the 2015 bunker project is complete) Objective- Sand bunkers will have the proper amount of sand evenly distributed, without rocks, loose impediments, or weeds. 1. Bunkers will be checked daily for smoothness. A rotation of spot raking and hand raking the green side bunkers will be implemented. 2. Green side bunkers will be hand raked. 3. Fairway bunkers and waste bunkers will be raked using a mechanical rake. The perimeters will be raked a minimum of twice a week on fairway bunkers and not raked on waste bunkers. 4. Bunkers will be edged twice a month during the growing season and as needed during the winter months. 5. Bunkers will have adequate rakes that are functional and in good repair. 6. Bunker rakes are to be placed outside bunkers facing the direction of play. Care will be taken to keep them away from steep slopes or on bunker faces. 7. Bunker banks will be maintained appropriately and sodded as needed. 9
Practice Facilities Objective The practice areas, putting green and practice bunkers will be maintained in such a manner as to provide maximum benefit to the practicing golfers. Both ends of the range will mirror the condition of the golf course. 1. Putting Green a. Cut and/or rolled comparable to the regular greens b. Sweep balls to the fringe periodically c. Change hole location twice each week 2. Practice Bunkers a. Groomed daily b. Provide adequate rakes c. Maintained according to standards for golf course bunkers 3. Practice Areas a. Range will be maintained to mirror the course conditions, including fairway and rough conditions b. Tees will be moved daily to maintain good turf conditions c. Balls will be collected and resupplied to the range as needed d. Tees on the stand and water/towels at the club washer will be resupplied daily e. The yardage sign will be on a permanent stand in the middle of the practice tee so that golfers can step off the distance to their tee location 10
Staff Training and Development Objective- The objective is to maintain proper staffing levels, and that all employees are provided a safe and efficient work environment. 1. The safety of our employees is our first priority. 2. Staffing levels will be consistently maintained according to current budgeted amounts. 3. Management will provide safe working conditions and will train employees to understand and support our commitment to safety. 4. Accident prevention is the responsibility of each employee in this department. Working safely is our primary consideration, and negligent behavior toward our safety requirements and training programs will not be tolerated. 5. Employees will be provided an orientation on their first week of hire. At this time, they will be issued tools to perform their assignments, as well as instruction and access to proper protective equipment. 6. Employees will be trained on each piece of equipment prior to operating independently. For this training to be complete, both the employee and a supervisor will sign off on the completion of training. 7. Each member of our team will operate with an expressed sense of urgency and a strong attention to detail. Our goal is to exceed member expectations on a daily basis. 8.
