CORNWALL DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS NEWS England Golf has launched a new One Message campaign to get more people trying golf. Get into Golf is a national campaign to inspire people of all ages, background and abilities to take up the game. All of Cornwall s upcoming activities and events in the coming year will be put onto the new website - If any golf clubs have got any upcoming taster sessions, events or Open Days please let me know and it will be advertised on the Get into Golf website. Cornwall Golf Week is progressing well with lots of new people booking onto the taster session so far. We hope that over 500 people will try golf during the week. There is a total of 70 hours of free coaching available so if you know anyone who would like to attend the taster sessions please contact the relevant Professionals. Simon Wood Cornwall Golf Development Officer Get Active Cornwall There is an exciting and popular website that is helping advertise Cornwall Golf Week. Get Active Cornwall is a website specifically developed to inspire and motivate Cornish residents to be more active. The website is run by the Cornwall Sport Partnership and offers sports clubs in Cornwall a free way to advertise events and activities. Every golf club, driving range and short course in Cornwall has been uploaded onto the system and each club can log onto the website and input any upcoming events and activities. 2 CORNWALL GOLF WEEK Cornwall Golf Week is going to be a fantastic week for introducing new people into the game and the Cornwall Golf Partnership is hopeful the week will be more successful than last year s event. The week takes place between Monday 9 th April and Sunday 15 th April, the week directly after the Masters at Augusta. Each participating golf club and range has received promotional packs and has distributed posters and leaflets at local schools, leisure centres and shops to increase awareness of the week. PGA professionals will also offer followon coaching opportunities and there will be information about club memberships and other aspects of the game. There is a list of all the golf clubs and ranges taking part in the project, as well as the times and dates of all the coaching activity on the right hand side of this page. 3 For more information about Sport England's Market Segmentation you can visit Sport England's website on ket_segmentation.aspx OPEN DAY SUCCESSES St Austell Golf Club had fantastic success with the Market Segmentation Open Day on Sunday 25th March, with 20 new members joining the club on the day! Market Segmentation is a new development tool from Sport England and is designed to identify the most likely people to participate in sport. New Sponsor for Cornwall Golf Partnership The Cornwall Golf Partnership is delighted to announced Sport and Corporate Awards as one of our sponsors for 2012! Sport and Corporate Awards is a family run business that started in 1995 and supplies trophies, cups, medals and accessories in over 20 different sports including golf. The Cornwall Golf Partnership is purchasing cups and trophies through Sport and Corporate Awards for all the Partnership competitions for this coming year. St Austell identified the postcodes of its most likely potential customers and delivered 10,000 leaflets to households all over the St Austell area For more information about Sport and Corporate Awards you can visit their website on Over 100 people attended the Open Day and everyone who attended were given free golf lessons from PGA Professionals Russell Binney and Tony Pitts. The Sweet Spot Golf simulator was also on hand, as well as putting and chipping competitions. 18 adults and 2 juniors joined as members on the day and 10 people signed up to follow up beginner sessions during Cornwall Golf Week.

4 KEITH WILLIAMS SEMINAR The Keith Williams coaching workshop was a great success and was very well received by the 16 PGA Professionals who attended the seminar. Keith Williams is the former England Golf Union Head Coach and was in charge of the England Men's and Boy's Squads. Keith has also taught many other elite players and many European Tour Professionals. AimPoint Coming to St Mellion A fantastic and innovative workshop is coming to Cornwall on Thursday 28 th and Friday 29 th June at St Mellion Golf Club. Jamie Donaldson is an AimPoint Senior Instructor and is hosting an AimPoint Green Reading fundamentals clinic at St Mellion. Keith gave a brief history of his career and then explained his coaching methods and theories he has learnt over the last twenty years. This was the last CPD workshop for the winter and the seminars have been very popular with Professionals and Level 1 coaches from both Devon and Cornwall. We are planning on having two CPD seminars in the summer starting with The Coaching Player Pathway Putting it all together by Nigel Furniss, former Performance Director for the England Golf Union on Monday 25 th June at China Fleet Golf Club. AimPoint Technologies is a company focused on the science of predictive putt technology, green reading instruction and player performance analysis, with the goal of improving golf performance and educating golfers in a quick and efficient manner. AimPoint is used on every tour across the world and the technique has already won events this season on both the PGA and LPGA tours. The workshop is three hours and there are sessions in both the morning and afternoon on both days. 5 CORNWALL UNDER 16 s BEAT UNDER 14 s The Cornwall Boys Under 16 s Development team had an excellent win against the Cornwall Under 14 boys at Launceston Golf Club. The Under 16 s won the match 8 ½ matches to 3 ½ matches. It was 2 matches all after the morning foursomes and the Under 16 s showed their experience in the singles and went on to win the singles by 6 ½ matches to 1 ½ matches. Cornwall Professionals Beat Cornwall Amateurs for Third Time The Cornwall Professionals beat the Cornwall Amateurs for the third successive year in the annual pre-season match at Trevose Golf Club on Sunday 4th March. The Cornwall Professional won the encounter 8 matches to 7 matches in another extremely close contest. This fixture is always close and the previous two matches have resulted in wins for the Cornwall Professionals by 8 matches to 7 matches in 2010 and 8 ½ matches to 6 ½ matches last year. The course was in great condition and the format of the match was fourball betterball and singles played off the white tees. Thirteen of the sixteen juniors involved in the match are part of the Cornwall County Academy and this shows that the County Academy is a fantastic development tool for the juniors to progress to the full county Under 14 s and Under 16 s junior teams.
