2 Club notices and reminders Please would archers sign the register (silver diary) on the day they shoot, and note if they have paid or not! Club target fees are senior 1 & junior 50p each time you shoot. Remember - don't leave valuables in your car Please make sure that the signs are put out before shooting and equipment is removed from the field and returned to its proper place after shooting Please make sure all lost arrows are found before the end of the day PLEASE make sure that all pegs, distance markers are returned to the shed and NOT left on the field, this is very important. SHOOTING ALONE IS FORBIDDEN AT ALL TIMES News from the Committee Some Sundays between September and April will not be available for shooting after 2.00 pm due to a new junior football club using the field we shoot on. The situation with the pavilion has been made clear by HLRA (Harwell Rec Soc) in the following letter to the club. Mark Thank you for your letter detailing the needs of the archery club. Please feel free to circulate this back to your committee. I am not concerned with being unpopular with some in HLRA, as I am already, but you have to understand the circumstances that exist at present. Your committee did have the opportunity to listen to the plans for the front of site and make representations directly to the site over a year ago. The plans post Rugby Pavilion for the middle field were made very clear to the Harlequin Bowman and there has been no change. The only structure that will be allowed on the middle field will be a small metal shed that does not require planning permission. This will not change in the foreseeable future as it is tied into the main pavilion rebuild. The Rugby pavilion is already under contract to be removed and that is final I am sorry to say. Unfortunately the situation that exists at present on site means that "threats" that the new facilities arrangements mean you can't operate a club safely could lead to your club being asked to go elsewhere. You have to make it work safely. Your club needs to understand that HLRA knew you are an excellent club but still had no choice but to go ahead with the Main Pavilion redevelopment. We knew that there was a risk that the facilities would be different at the end of the process, but still went ahead. We realised that there was a risk that you would move, but still went ahead. My message back to your club is that within 2-3 years the whole of the
3 front of site goes! leaving at this stage only the main pavilion and a small car park. I envisage that it will be a great spot for archery in the future. I also question a couple of things? there was absolutely no provision for wheel chairs in the rugby pavilion so how did you cope? also your club shoots in the light on evenings and weekends when the traffic is light. In fact going past some weekends the front gate is actually shut. My advice to the Harlequin Bowman is that you did not end up with what you have out of spite or malice but necessity. HLRA has limited resources but is more than happy to help resolve some issues on your list, as long as you recognise the limitations we work within and stop pushing for things you can't have and HLRA can't provide. If you can't make it work as a club then I recommend that your club seeks an alternative venue away from Harwell. Yes this seems harsh and no one wants your club to go but this is being realistic. best wishes David Batt-Rawden HLRA Chairman. We have been told that storage in the new pavilion for the rest of the equipment has been allocated. The new pavilion has changing rooms, toilets and meeting room. It has been made very clear to us that we fit in and take what is on offer or we take our club elsewhere. The Committee is trying to arrange a meeting with David Batt-Rawden to ascertain the exact size of new storage both in the new pavilion and on the field. New Pavilion Opening - Monday 10 December 2007 New Harlequin Bowmen Web site should be on line for the New Year We have been asked to hold next years Tri-County tournament, 5 th May The committee has asked for more details before agreeing to hold it. The date for our Club Open Tournament the Diana is 1 st June 2008 The club has 56 members at this time and is financially sound at present. New junior membership form has been produced in line with GNAS Child Protection Policy The Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish all members a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year I hope every one has enjoined themselves over the last year and are looking forward to next seasons shooting, I know indoor shooting is not everyones cup of tea and hopefully the weather next year will be better. I would like to thank all the members for participating in the club and for all the work they do to make the club a successful and friendly one. In the coming year we will see a lot of changes in our facilities, these changes are out of our control, so we must do our best to make the most of our circumstances at this time. We will have to wait and see how things develop and settle down. On a personal note I would like to thank all for surporting Pauline, Mandy & myself over the last year. Have a nice Christmas and Happy New Year Mick (Chairperson) Dates for Committee meetings

6 Coaching News The last beginners coaching has finished, A waiting list is now being compiled for next year. We have recently held two Saturday morning coaching sessions for members (the second one was for members who could not attend the first) and was well attended. It is hoped to continue more of these sessions when the weather permits. We still hope to organize a tuning session in the near future If any members would like some help with their shooting please talk to us For those members who attend tournaments, it s worth spending a little time the day before or better still a few days before looking over your equipment and checking all is in good condition and nothing is lose or about to fall off (no not that! The bow). But do not go making any major changes at this late stage. It s a good idea to have a spare string set up with a nocking point (and kisser if you use one). A few basic tools could also be useful. Do not forget to warm up before starting shooting. Mick Coaching Officer CLUB EVENTS Christmas Fun Shoot On Friday 21 st Dec we will have A Christmas Fun Shoot with fancy dress (optional). 4 target faces are already sorted, if any one would like to contribute they are welcome (we need 7), but should be co-ordinated before the evening. If any one would like to bring any nibbles they are welcome. New Year s day shoot 10.00am the exact round will depend on the weather, bring a present up to the value of 4. (more info week before) Jan 25 th indoor club champs Bray 1 & Bray11 (informal shoot) 2 ½ 25 yrd (60cm face) and 2 ½ dozen at 20 yrd (40 cm face) Club Dinner. This will take place on an evening in the week in February probably either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Last year we went to a Chinese restaurant, this year we are going to try a pub restaurant. If you are interested please let Julie or Chris know so we can book enough seats. Date and venue to be advised March 21 st Indoor Team Shoot & Head to Head, more details to come.

The Harlequin encampment was right behind the tent line over looking the shooting field. It was a bit like a seen from a western as all our tents & caravans formed a circle with a social area in the centre, which was useful in the evenings.
