I want to thank each and everyone of you for selecting me to serve as Club President for the term starting January I m humbled and yet, I will strive throughout my term to be worthy of your trust and support. Thanks to Gary Mofson for his past two years of service and leadership as our President. It was a pleasure working with him and I hope that I will not drop the baton that has been passed to me. This past year we witnessed the passing of several of our fellow club members. They were active members and regularly participated in Club tournaments and activities. On behalf of all Club Members, they will be missed. As we start this new year, we are faced with several new challenges unlike any others during my tenure with the Club. The challenges are a decline in membership and a decline in member volunteers for positions such as 18 Hole Tournament Coordinator, News Letter Editor and Handicap Chairman. Also we need to become familiar with the 2019 Rule changes. I m certain that if we work together toward a common goal, we will overcome these challenges. Let us strive for the following goals: Increase overall membership to 110. Fill all vacant positions Be timely in signing up for all Tournaments. In all Tournament Play, be mindful and encourage appropriate pace of play. Publishing a Quarterly News Letter April 25th

They joined over 90 players from different golf clubs in the Southern California Area divided into four different flights. Bill Stoeppleman was able to advance by shooting a net 74 and tying for third place in the Pacific Flight. Bill will now advance to the Finals at Industry Hills Golf Club on April 8th and 9th. All of us at Harbor Park Men s Club wish Bill Stoeppleman success in the tournament and appreciate the efforts of both of our members to proudly represent Harbor Park Men s Club in very challenging competition. The Golfer of the Month is determined by the golfer with the lowest total net score for the first 9 Hole tournament of the month and the 18 hole tournament. In case of a tie there would be multiple winners. At the end of the year all of our golfers of the month compete for Golfer of the Year.

5 Volume 11 Page 5 Spotlight on the Rules of Golf UNPLAYABLE LIE The golfer is the only person who may decide to treat his ball as an unplayable lie. Unplayable ball relief is allowed anywhere on the course except in a penalty area. A player may take unplayable ball relief with a choice of three options in each case adding one penalty stroke. First option The player may take stroke and distance relief by playing the original ball or another ball from a relief area based on where the previous stroke was made. Relief area is one club length. Second option The player may take back-on-the-line relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in a relief area based on a reference line going straight back from the hole through the spot of the original ball. Relief area is one club length. Third Option The player may take lateral relief. The reference point is the spot of the original ball. Relief area is two club lengths. Why think about your three options?? Because if you hit a poor shot from a good area on the golf course and it should roll against a fence where your relief option is not advantageous you might consider going back and trying the easy shot again instead of compounding your problems. Whatever option you choose please consider pace of play in making a reasonably quick decision.

Our regular 9 hole tournaments are normally held on the first and third Thursdays of each month. We have an away 18 hole tournament once a month. Harbor Park Golf Course 1235 N.
